Don't think donkeys can hide their dun markings. Dun in horses is either there or it isn't. Don't think it can hide in horses either.
According to UC Davis, the dun marker test works on all breeds of horses. I would think that any equine test would cover all equines and not have anything to do with the particular breed of equine. They either have the marker or they don't. Did you test the sire for the dun marker and if so, what was the result ?

Our one 3 year old donkey jenny didn`t have the gold cast to her..she`s grey-dun. This little guy looks a lot different then her : ) Not all donkeys have dun markings. 3 of our donkeys do not have them, or if they do they are hid. So if these 3 jennies can hid the dorsals and leg barring it would only make sense so could horses depending on their color. ?There is no real test for the Dun gene. Just markers. It also doesn`t work 100% on Iberians or any breed yet really. Sueno is in the Iberian Dun study due to him having the dorsal and leg barring..and now if you count the hinny foals 7 out of 7 foals have dorsal, leg and ear barring as well as tummy (ventrical?) stripe. : )Sereena, manager of Swan Creek
