Thanks Christoffer, for answering.

Do you think I could use a grassy like plant? I have
floating "lily pads" made of silk that they like to
lay their eggs on. Have you ever hatched them? I
tried once, got them to live for 14 days, then woke up
one morning and they were all dead! Don't know what I
did wrong!

Why so deep? I was thinking along the lines of 8" (20
cm), but would consider 10-12" if necessary. The tank
will be 8" wide by 40" long. I want to have a glass
top made, to keep the little guys in (you know how
they like to jump out! - luckily, I've never lost any
that way!)

Why 40W bulbs? Isn't that kind of hot for them? I use
two flourescent bulbs (have two 5 g tanks), but these
don't put off any heat. I don't have heaters in
there... should I? The Flourescent light is good for
plants, but am considering getting the lights
especially for aquarium plants. Do the frogs need
UVB/A lighting?

Should this be aquarium sand, or will washed play sand
work just as well? I don't like undergravel
filters... just a preference. But I have two box
filters that seem to work great. One in each tank.
How often do you clean the tank with an undergravel
filter? Using sand, how do you clean it... doesn't
the vacuum suck up the sand? I have a Python...
haven't tried it on sand yet, but it has pretty good
suction.

I really appreciate your help. I had been talking to
someone else via their website, but he stopped
emailing after a while... I think he got tired of my
questions! LOL

Any other advice, opinions, etc. anyone has will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Take plant that got lots of smaller leaves where the frogs can lay their eggs
and hide in.
Sorry, I´m lossy on english names for plants.

For these animals, maybe 30-35 cm high, if I did calculate the messurements
right.

What kind of lighting is best
>for them?

I use normal aquarium lightning with a few 40 W bulbs, and that works nice, but
with many plants you may need some stronger stuff, I can´t remember the name of
it in english, it´s early morning now, it´s the long white tubes that gives a
very good light, ahh you know what I mean, get 2 of those to, and it will be
very nice.

Do they prefer aquarium gravel or sand?

Sand, with a nice undergravel filter if you got one.
I´ts easier to keep it clean with sand to and the plants normaly likes it
better.

   thanks in advance!

Sorry for my late reply, I´ve been a bit tied up.
The eggs are laid one by one, and you generally find them at the top of the
aquarium, not really floating but kind of, but they may also be elsewhere, and
just like Xenopus laevis (the specie of clawed frog I´ve breed most) they can
stick to different things, like plants..
The colour is dark, like a "normal frog egg, just not to much jelly.

Yes.
You have to let them know that it´s the right time of the year for mating and
that can be a bit hard in a mixed tank.
A other problem is that if they lay eggs in a tank with fish, the eggs will most
likely be eatend very fast.

Ok, so what you're basically saying is that them being in my 20 gallon community
tank isn't a good situation for mating, huh?

Hello
In nature these frogs mainly mate in periods of heavy raining, when theire is a
lot of food and water around. Try to imitate that by first lovering the water
leavel to around 2-3 cm and and keep them like that for maybe 3 weeks, then you
raise the water level with heavy showers (put the tank in the shower, it normaly
works bet) now they normaly will start mating and producing eggs within 1-1½
week. Give them a lot of aquatic vegetation to, for the eggs to be laid on.

When I first got my frogs about a year and a half ago, they did produce
eggs, but I was too new to them to know how to take care of the eggs. Since
then, they seem to show no interest at all in mating. I think the trick is
to get the temperatures right to simulate the seasons in nature. Which I
must have somehow done..

Yours is the first message I've seen from this
list since I joined a month or so ago. I'm not a
seasoned veteran or antyhing else unfortunately.
My problem is similar to yours. I bought a pair
of mine in amplexus. That is, they were when
they were scooped from their tank and ownership
transferred over. Therefore, I know mine are
appropriately matched too. Still, none of my
dwarf frogs have ever produced as much as one egg
or even mated since coming into my possession.

I hope someone here can enlighten both of us. I
do know raising any tadpole can be difficult, but
I do know it requires at least one egg and mine
doen't appear interested in even that small feat.

Hopefully, there is a few others on this list.

I joined this group a month or so ago looking for information on my
African Dwarf Frogs. I'm starting to think the group is extinct.
After looking through all of the messages, I saw that almost 1/3 of
the total messages in the database were SPAM. Hummm...

My question is for any seasoned veterans out there. I have a male and
a female and have had them both for about 4 months now. Surprisingly
I am positive that I have a male and a female, as I have seen all of
the distinguishing characteristics: bump behind the forearm, nub of
a tail on the bottom, and the lighter vs. darker colors. My question
is, when are this little guys gonna breed? They reside in my 20
gallon community tank with my 4 adult platys, one 2 month old platy
and 2 2 week old platy fry. They are thriving well, shedding skin,
eating very good, getting larger, and I know that they are lucking
out every once in awhile and getting some live platy fry because we
don't remove all of the fry from the tank for that very reason--to
give them live food. I'm inquiring I guess what possible condition
is missing from my tank to catch the breeding? It's not the cover
because there are plenty of hiding places within the plants for them.
From what I understand, raising baby frogs/tadpoles in the tank is
almost a near impossibility anyhow but it would sure go to further
confirm that they are 'living well'.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, everyone... I have 5 African Dwarf frogs that live in a 29 gallon
aquarium with fish. Mine seem to like space to swim around, too.

I agree with Kami that it would probably be fine to move Angela's frog to a
bigger tank. I have moved my frogs a few times, and changed their water,
etc. and they have been just fine. You could always pour some of his old
water into the new tank so it is not a shock to him.

my little ADF lives in a 10G with 2 rice-paddy frogs. they don't bother each
other, the other frogs float on the surface all the time. he's a little
pig, and he stuffs himself full of bloodworms whenever i feed him. he
doesn't have a name yet though.
to Angela- i don't think that your frog would die if you moved him into a
bigger tank, in fact, he'd probably appreciate it. especially since the
more water you have in a tank, the harder it is for a toxin to build up
quickly. in other words, he might be healthier in a bigger tank. plus, my
frog loves to swim all around his tank.
nice to see that there are actually some people on this list!

my froggy is just fine, his name is prince charming i've had him for 6 months.
he is in a small tank by my computer. i want to give him a bigger tank but i
am afraid that as soon as i do that he will die (i've had the worst luck with
fish so i don't wanna chance losing my froggy)
he seems to be quite happy in his tank.
well i hope others on this list get up the courage to write

hiya everyone!i was just wondering how your dwarf frogs are doing?i only
have one now but he/she is fat and lazy as usual!it's the fattest african
dwarf frog i've ever seen,i mean ever since i got the 2 dwarfs and they both
got fat then one died and this one just doesn't loose any weight!i barly
ever feed it,because i'm trying to let it loose some weight but it still
stays fat,i guess on the bugs that fly into the whater and can't escape
because the tank is outside.any ideas on what to do?because when i first got
them i read that you feed them to where their stomachs barly bulge out and
mine's stomach is like 2 times the size of when i got it,and has stayed that
way!maby i should name it chubby since i never named it.ttyl,

The humbling of Okadigbo
The impeachment of Senator Evan Enwerem from the exalted seat of Senate President was largely predicated on the non-independence of the National Assembly.

Signals for Mr. President (2)

Recently, a retired General engaged me in some discussions and I was amazed that he does not see anything wrong in a Nigerian President paying N12 billion to a company without the authorization of the National Assembly. "Does it mean the President has to go to NASS each time he wants to do anything?" He asked in apparent anger.

The western countries are at imminent risk of yet another great debacle: failing to come to the help of Nigerian democracy, even as the country is rocked by riots and unrest stemming from profound impoverishment and financial destabilization.

My 3 tadpoles are now 2 weeks old. I am worried that they are developing at
such different rates, do I need to separate them? One has very strong, large
legs and arms. He does a lot of sitting on the ground in the aquarium...but
he still has his tail.
Tadpole number 2 has legs and arms and tail. He is less strong looking.
Tadpole number 3 has very little legs, and no arms at all. He was the
largest of all the tadpoles. Once the others start losing their tails, do I
need to separate him from them so they can get other food? I put a few
pieces of the froglet food in the water, but no takers....Please advise. My
students in my class are in love with them, I hope they all make it! Shirley

Boiled lettuce is a good idea for feeding, if you just put in a large sheet
of it on Friday they should be fine, especially if it isn't a lot of
tadpoles, but even if it is, i think boiled lettuce is the easiest way to
feed and they seem to like it.

Shirley, I am not sure about the feeding for tadpoles, but once they are
grown, I would imagine that if you feed them on Friday before you leave
school that they should be fine over the weekend. I generally feed mine
every other day.
