Forgive me for these lengthy post. I have been on you group for awhile and I
don't normally post. I am sorry for that. When I was reading the post regularly
I seemed like I was always upset because someones' poor baby had passed and I
got off the computer every night with a heavy heart and I just couldn't take it
for awhile.
Anyway to get to my point, My name is Deanna and I have two ferrets, both two
years old. One is a sable, his name is Bandit and the other is a DEW, his name
is Whitey. He is deaf. Recently, at the beginning of June I started noticing
that Whitey was losing weight and he wasn't eating like he should. He's a small
ferret anyway. About 1.5 lbs. so I could tell rather quickly that he was losing
weight. I took him to the vet and they did a fecal and said he had bacteria in
his feces, so they gave me Flagl to use for 7 days. After the course of
treatment he still wasn't eating, I have been supplementing his food with I
guess my version of duck soup. I take chicken baby food, water, his kibble
crushed and a drop of whipping cream mix it together and warm it up. It makes a
soupy, watery consistency. Anyway, he will only eat this, but the problem is, he
doesn't act sick, he just doesn't want to eat, so I only feed him 4 times a day
and I don't get up every four hours. I could be making a mistake by not doing
this, but I didn't think I should since he doesn't act sick. He's playful and
runs around. His eyes are bright, his nose pink, he looks healthy. So anyway I
called the vet and she wanted to try carafate and tylan and she also wanted to
worm him, so we did this and that didn't help. So we went back to the vet today
and they did another fecal, urinalysis and blood work. She said everthing looked
fine except he had something that was high on the liver test. I'm sorry I don't
remember exactly what it was. I am going to call tomorrow. Oh and this time the
fecal came back fine, so no more bacteria there. She gave me Amoxicillian and
Choline and SamE to support his live and help it to work more effeciently. She
thinks it could be an infection. I am really worried. He is only two and I am a
worrisome person anyway, so my first thought is liver cancer or something else
could affect the liver. Of couse, searching on the internet didn't help, only to
make me worry more. I am already worried and crying because I don't want to lose
my baby and I know if it's not an infection, it is something bad. I know you
can't live without a liver.
Anyway, has anyone heard of a liver infection, or had this happen and if so
please give me any information you may have.
I hope I haven't left anything out.
My second request is please pray for my baby, Whitey, I can't imagine my live
without him and they have such a short lifespan anyway. I don't want to lose him
so soon. I have read of such loss lately of all they fuzzies passing to the
Rainbow Bridge and it really has me worried.
To everyone who have lost their babies I will be praying for your comfort and
for your other ferrets who have lost ones that they love.
Thanks so much for listening.
God Bless you all
Deanna
Whitey and Bandit
Okay, as of today he doesn't want to drink water. I don't know why, but I am
making him drink and the Vet said that he should have at least 40 ml of water a
day. So I am pretty much waking him up every 4 hours and feeding him and making
him take water.
I asked for the records from the Vet so I have the levels and here they are.
Bun 26.0 mg/dL
Crea 1.3mg/dL
TP 7.3 g/dL
ALT 186.0 U/L
ALKP 125.0 U/L
GLU 102.0 mg/dL
The Crea. and ALKP levels are high and the TP is normal high..
I think if things don't get better by tomorrow I will take him to another Vet.
on Sunday. I just wish I knew of a great Vet in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
I am really worried. Especially because he seems to be worse today than
yesterday. He even seems lethargic. I mean he'll get up a run around for about
5 minutes than lay down. This is the weekend and I don't know who to call. You
can never find anyone open on the weekend.
