Red Cross Shelter Needs Supplies for Animals

Hi Jan,
Right now, our shelter does not have any animals, but we are ready with food, crates, etc.  The evacuees were all brought here from the Super Dome in New Orleans.  They were not allowed to bring their pets.  I expect we will get some families that are staying in local hotels once they find out that we are taking pets

Any donation above what we use here, will be dispersed among the many hurricane related rescues in the area.  Packages can be sent to me through regular mail.  It usually doesn't take too long.

Red Cross Shelter Needs Supplies for Animals

PLEASE CROSS POST!!

Hello Everyone;

My name is Gina Prince with ChiPP Rescue (formerly Chi Wee Rescue of Louisiana).  The Cyr-Gates Community Center in New Iberia City Park is now a Red Cross Shelter.  As you know, shelters don't allow pets inside, however, we are making arrangements to house the pets outside in crates.

We are in desperate need of:
crates
food
water bowls
leashes
litter
fans to keep the animals cool
tents to put the crates under
anything else that a pet needs

If you have crates that you can lend, please bring them to City Park at 300 Parkview Drive in New Iberia.

Put your name, address and telephone number in permanent marker and we will do our best to return them to you when this crisis is over.

Thank you,
Gina Prince

HURRICANE KATRINA INFORMATION AND RELIEF EFFORTS

Friends,

Our deepest condolences go to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, who lost their lives, their homes and their livelihoods. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.

While the devastation caused by this tragedy is vast, our faith, tenacity and determination ensure that we will rebuild and we will endure. I am confident that the American spirit of generosity will prevail in the days, weeks, and months ahead, as Gulf Coast communities come together and our American family from coast to coast provides assistance. Together, federal, state and local authorities will continue to work diligently to protect and assist those in need.

For your convenience, I have included information below, also available on my website at www.edwards.house.gov, about Hurricane Katrina, links to organizations that are helping provide relief, and how to obtain disaster assistance.

                                                                                                                                                 Sincerely,

                                                E

I too am willing to help anyone with pets who needs a place to camp out. I
live on 47 acres in Missouri and could take someone and their pets. I live
with 19 dogs myself and no one would want to stay in my house but it's very
nice out on my property.

****Many families are forced to evacuate and are unable to take their

animals until they can be reunited with their families.

***Noah's Wish
What Is Noah's Wish?

Noah's Wish is a not-for-profit, animal welfare organization, with a

straightforward mission. We exist to keep animals alive during
disasters.

Noah's Wish is always prepared to help animals in the following ways.

Precautionary Evacuation of Animals

Noah's Wish will mobilize volunteers to help evacuate animals when

people are being told to prepare for possible evacuations. It is really

important at this point to move large animals out of the area as well as

large numbers of animals located on the same property. These types of

evacuations can take a great deal of time and it's better to start moving

these animals before evacuations become mandatory.

Mandatory Evacuations

A mandatory evacuation means the situation has reached a life

threatening level. If an animal care giver cannot evacuate their own

animals, Noah's Wish volunteers will help because the agencies assisting

with evacuating people do not have the time or space in their vehicles to

transport animals.

They help in many more ways...

Many of you want to help the animals injured or displaced
by hurricane
Katrina, but do not know how to do this. I have been in
contact with
Noah's Wish and they are on their way there. I know UAN
EARS (United
Animal Nation, Emergency Animal Rescue Service) will also
be there. Both
of these wonderful organizations help with pets and
wildlife displaced by
disasters like this. They will stay as long as they are
needed. Humans
get a lot of financial help, but the animals get very
little.

You can donate to one or both of these organizations. In
addition you can
learn about them both and become a volunteer too.

Thank you for helping

We have opened a pet shelter at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, right next to the Cajundome.  Evacuees may bring their pets their for housing. We have PLENTY of food, water, crates, cages, bedding and newspaper.  BUT the owners are responsible for feeding, watering, walking and medicating their own pets.
Interested parties may call Lafayette Parish Animal Control at: 337-291-5644 for more information.
Also many area vets are accepting animals right now, until they fill up. Get the Yellow Pages out!
Please help me to get this word out.  I've been working non-stop!  THANKS!

REP. ANDREWS OFFERS CONDOLENCES TO VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA AND PLEDGES
SUPPORT FOR RELIEF EFFORT

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of Hurricane Katrina. This
storm has wrought immeasurable loss of life and destruction of epic
proportions, the magnitude of which is still unfolding. As we speak,
agencies of the Federal government and branches of the military have begun
rescue, security and relief efforts.

If you have relatives or friends in the affected areas, it may take time for
them to communicate outside of the affected Gulf Coast area. I would direct
you to the section of this page containing the emergency contact numbers for
the particular state. Please remain patient as many communication channels
have been damaged. Do not enter the stricken areas without clear
instructions from authorities.

Additionally, many of you have contacted me asking to get information
regarding the relief and recovery efforts. I have provided for you below a
list of key agencies and organizations coordinating and/or supporting the
relief effort.

Despite the magnitude of this tragedy, the United States is a country of
survivors. It is situations such as these that bring out the very best in
all of us. I have no doubt that we will rise to the occasion as a people to
help our brothers and sisters along the Gulf coast. In the wake of this
tragedy, I join with my constituents and the rest of the American people to
offer our prayers and support for the victims of this disaster.

Being in the South this email message was sent to me. I thought I
would send it on to otheres.

Hurricane Katrina's toll on communities, homes and lives has
devastated the nation. Now victims must face the daunting question of
where to go next—and we can help.

Tens of thousands of newly homeless families are being bused to a
stadium in Houston, where they may wait for weeks or months. At least
80,000 are competing for area shelters, and countless more are in
motels, cars, or wherever they can stay out of the elements. The
Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Red Cross are scrambling
to find shelter for the displaced.

This morning, we've launched an emergency national housing drive to
connect your empty beds with hurricane victims who desperately need a
place to wait out the storm. You can post your offer of housing (a
spare room, extra bed, even a decent couch) and search for available
housing online at:

http://www.hurricanehousing.org

Housing is most urgently needed within reasonable driving distance
(about 300 miles) of the affected areas in the Southeast, especially
New Orleans.

Please forward this message to anyone you know in the region who
might be able to help.

But no matter where you live, your housing could still make a world
of difference to a person or family in need, so please offer what you
can.

The process is simple:

You can sign up to become a host by posting a description of whatever
housing you have available, along with contact information. You can
change or remove your offer at any time.

Hurricane victims, local and national relief organizations, friends
and relatives can search the site for housing. We'll do everything we
can to get your offers where they are needed most. Many shelters
actually already have Internet access, but folks without 'net access
can still make use of the site through case workers and family
members.

Hurricane victims or relief agencies will contact hosts and together
decide if it's a good match and make the necessary travel
arrangements. The host's address is not released until a particular
match is agreed on.

If hosting doesn't work for you, please consider donating to the Red
Cross to help with the enormous tasks of rescue and recovery. You can
give online at:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=859

As progressives, we share a core belief that we are all in this
together, and today is an important chance to put that idea to work.
There are thousands of families who have just lost everything and
need a place to stay dry. Let's do what we can to help.

Thanks for being there when it matters most.

Lost Dogs at BARC: Owners May be Katrina Evacuees

HOUSTON (September 1, 2005) –
Animal control officers with the City of Houston picked up a pair of dogs with rabies identification tags registered in the City of New Orleans.

On Wednesday, the animals were taken to the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care facility located at 3200 Carr.

Leashes attached to the collars suggest that it is possible that these dogs accidentally got away from one of the many Katrina evacuees that have fled to Houston. The dogs are in good condition and BARC will hold the animals as long as possible.

The public can access photos and descriptions of the dogs at: www.petharbor.com.

If you can help to reunite the dogs with their owners please contact Barbara Harris (BARC)
at: 713-238-9600, Ext. #333
or Kelly Cripe at: 713- 480-3003.

Do you have room for Katrina victims?

Dear Shelter and Rescue Partners,

We have volunteered to compile a list of shelters and rescue groups that have room for one or more pets left homeless by Hurricane Katrina.  This list will be forwarded to the ASPCA’s disaster team and other emergency response teams we’ve been in contact with.

If you have space, or can make some space to accommodate one of these survivors, please sign up here!   http://savinglives.1-800-save-a-pet.com/site/Survey?SURVEY_ID=1280&ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS&JServSessionIdr010=bowycxotw3.app5a

There will also be a link to this sign-up page from your main admin page on the site.

One more favor:  I am sending this email to the shelters and rescue groups who post pets on 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com.  If you have friends in the shelter/rescue community who don’t use our site to post their pets, please forward this email to them so that we may gather information from as many willing organizations as possible!

As always, I thank you for everything you do to make this world a better place for animals.

Yours truly,

Abbie Moore
Executive Director
1-800-Save-A-Pet.com.

P.S.  If you can’t use the link above, here it is in long form:  http://savinglives.1-800-save-a-pet.com/site/Survey?SURVEY_ID=1280&ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS

Hi Everyone: I want each and every person to know I am praying for
them, their loved ones, and their pets to be saved by this horrible
devastation. I can't imagine what everyone must be going through, and
only wish the best for all concerned.

I also want everyone to know that the American Humane Society and
North Shore Animal League are two of the animal organizations that
have sent people there to help because the human rescue groups won't
help the animals at all. So, if any of you are able to donate to
their cause, just go to their websites at: americanhumane.org and
nsal.org, and you will be able to make donations. Also, pleae let
everyone you know about these wonderful groups who are helping the
pets. Thanks again. Vicky Tisdial
