Send Email Send Email

This poor little pup was passed over for adoption because his leg was swollen. A
CT rescue spoke up for him, but it did turn out to be a "worse case scenario"!
It's going to cost well over $1,000 to get him healthy and have the limb
amputated (and then he will still need his routine vetting!)
If you can help, it would be much appreciated!! Thanks for reading.

We have a mama cat and kitten living in a box on our front porch...the mama cat
is a neighborhood cat and won't let us get near her! I am in desperate need of
something warm for her to be in this winter and food for her as well. I am
disabled and on a very fixed income. I did put a towel in the box but we live
in Central Illinois and it gets COLD here! Thank you in advance.

We need a big dog house for a dog that stands almost 6 foot on his hind legs. My
dog house is too small for him. We also need hay for the rescued goat as well as
the dogs. If anyone can spare a few heat lamps that would be great also. I need
a big warm shirt for my large rescue dog. He has no hair at this moment and
needs help. Even a small pony sweater might fit him. If anyone can help please
do let me know. If not I understand.

Thanks in advance,

crossposting/facebooking to your friends okay - but no craigs or other lists
12/3 update:  We have good news and not so good news this morning.  The great news is that Tazzy is leaving the vets today, having been there since Thanksgiving, to go to her great foster home (the same home who nursed Butters the Boxer back to health).  The bad news is that when they handed us the  bill today it was far greater then they had warned us to expect, so the 'chip in' level has been increased and we are still begging for funds.  The other bad news is that Tazzy will most likely require further surgeries on her ankles.  The skin/muscle was gone down to the bone.  Repair was done and skin grafts were done, but the vets anticipate further work there when Tazzy is healthy. She is far skinnier than the pictures appear.  Turns out that Tazzy is not the two years old we were told, but is not even a year old yet; probably nine months by the vets estimation. The really wonderful news is that this young one will never again suffer at the hands of a human if we can  help it; she will go to only the best, monitored home when she is well.  Many of you have asked about the prosecution of the person who did this to Tazzy.  The person who brought Tazzy to us did so at great personal risk, and will not take on more risk by testifying against this monster.  The police say it would take more manpower/money then they are willing to invest BECAUSE there are no stringent laws in place with which to convict the creep, so they feel their work will mean nothing (thanks legislature).  HOWEVER it is worth their time to pursue this person for drug use/sales, so we have every faith that this sadist will be brought to some kind of justice.  Thank you all for your donations, your emails, your good wishes and your ideas about what ought to be done to the XXX who did this to her; not just this once, but other times in her young life.  The person who got her to us said that they could no longer see this dog abused - that she had been hit/chased with a vehicle more than once and suffered other abuses. Tazzy thanks you all.

The chip in link is below or you can donate from any button on the URKY website, www.urky.org or checks can be mailed to URKY 1708 Houndstooth, Lexington, KY 40515.  Remember your donations are deductible under 501(c)3 rule.  We'll send an update early next week. Thank you.

Crossposting Okay - No craigs or other lists.

Tazzy has been turned over to URKY.  She is at the vets now and will be for some time; injuries are infected and the vets tell us they are amazed she can stand on her hind legs.  Tazzy's (her new name for her new life!) former sadistic owner would get drugged up and play 'car games' with Tazzy.  We can not yet disclose some information about this case, but suffice to say, people took a risk getting this dog to safety.  Now we have to get her healthy and into a home where she will never suffer again AND we need to pay nearly $1,600 in vet bills for her.....URKY's emergency vetting fund is nearly empty...depleated by the Mt. Vernon hoarder dogs, the Fleming mill dogs, and on and on...PLEASE help us pay Tazzy's bill.  When Tazzy is able to leave the vets, we have a safe foster home for her....the same wonderful people who helped bring Butters the Boxer back to health...but URKY has to pay Tazzy's bills...so PLEASE, donate even a little...it all adds up.  There is a chip in below or you can donate at www.urky.org from any of the donation buttons, or you can mail a check to URKY, 1708 Houndstooth Glen, Lexington, KY 40515.  Thank you and please cross post. Tazzy is now under the umbrella of URKY.  She is a very sweet great dane mix that was used for sport by her owner.  He liked to get high on drugs then hit her with his vehicle. As her latest wounds can testify, this time he probably tied her to his vehicle and dragged her. Tazzy is presently at 60 lbs and should weigh well over 100 lbs.  She has old scars and wounds that attest to the fact this wasn't the first time she'd been put through such severe abuse.  Her physical wounds are bad and vet bills will be high.  The worse wounds are under the bandages and it's amazing she can stand in these pictures.  Please help us by donating to her vets costs.  Tazzy is a gentle animal that wags her damaged tail whenever you speak a kind word or give a soft pat to her head.

Donations can be made on our website, please, please.. any amount will help.

Hello all -

We know it is the holiday season, but we are in need of a bit of help.

Reach Out Rescue, NFP has two dogs that needed immediate vet care and the bills got rather high.

We are asking if anybody can please help contribute to these vet bills.  We are COMPLETELY out of pocket, as most rescues are.  We rely solely on donations of the general public and adoption donations.

With our adoption donations being between $175 and $250 - this does not even come close to covering their expenses.  I know in rescue, we always take a loss, but these two dogs really put our bank account in the RED, as they had to be paid off right away.

Below are the dogs' info.

Daisy - 4 to 5 yr old Pure Bred Yorkie.  She came to us from a pound in the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago.  She had a severe anal infection, horrible mats (so close to the skin she had to be sedated and shaved down), needed a very bad dental cleaning, and had a lump on one of her nipples.  Since we pulled her in October, she has been spayed, groomed, her anal infection was cleared up with three antibiotics, her teeth are beautiful after a deep cleaning, and the lump was removed and tested negative for any cancer.  YAY!  Please see attached before and after pictures of Daisy.

Total for all vetting:  $848.56

Hazel - 5 to 6 month old Pure American Pit Bull Terrier. Came to us from a neglectful home.  When our volunteers went to pick her up, she was tied with maybe 2 ft of chain to the owner's cabinet.  Why?  They said they did not want her destroying the house!  She was very skinny and nervous.  She did not know what toys were or what a step was.  We got her on a good high quality diet, updated her vaccines, dewormed her, and flea treated her.  She picked up on "sit" and house breaking very well.  Upon arriving in her foster home in Chicago, she fell down some stairs and broke her knee.  She has had surgery and had 2 pins put in.  Hazel is recovering well.  The vet feels she will heal very nicely but needs to have a month or so of "down time".  Once she is fully healed she will be spayed.  Please see the attached pictures of Hazel.

Total for surgery: $1024.56

Please click on the link below to make a donation.  Any dollar amount will help greatly.  Paypal does take out a percentage, so if you can "Gift" the donation, we will get the full amount you are able to donate.  We greatly appreciate your help, especially with it being the holiday season.

If you would like to send a check, please make it out to Reach Out Rescue, NFP and mail it to me directly at:

We would like to pull this guy, but our funds are low and we are short foster homes.  If ANYBODY can foster him or donate towards his vetting please let me know ASAP!!

He has Demodex Mange...it is NOT contagious to other animals, but does need immediate treatment.  Treatment is one dip every 2 weeks for about 3-4 dippings, so treatment period is lengthy and can be costly.

Please contact me if you can help at all.  If you are a rescue and can take Bronco in....PLEASE contact Todd at TLMBARAN591@....  Licensed rescues ONLY.

No offers on this lovable teddy bear. He is so calm and sweet, even though his skin is on fire with mange....
So the "Pet Owner of the Year" award goes to the folks who DUMPED poor Bronco. Bronco was tied to the back door of the local Animal Hospital last night when we had a snow storm and temperatures were BELOW FREEZING! To make matters worse, this poor pup has Demodex Mange, and it wasn't treated. He had no fur to protect himself from the cold!!!
Bronco is in bad shape, but even though he was neglected and abandoned, he has a big heart, and is just a fuzzy teddy bear that needs some TLC! Bronco is an unneutered male, about 8 months old. He has a very calm and peaceful demeanor. He has already had a skin scraping, and has had his first mitaban dip today. He is also on Anti-biotics for his sores and he did have a slight temperature. Bronco was very well behaved at the vet, he doesn't bark, and he has shown no aggression towards any animal-dog or cat!
Bronco is currently in the south west suburbs of Chicago. Those of you who know me, know where he is at. If you are a licensed rescue or shelter, and want to give this boy a chance at a loving home, please respond to this email, or contact me at:

Please cross post. We will continue to care for his mange until a rescue scoops him up.

Thanks,
ACO Todd

I am pleased to annouce that we will be picking up Bronco tomorrow morning from the pound!

Thank you for all of you that helped make this happen via crossposting and/or donations.

We are still asking for donations for Bronco and we have started a ChipIn fund for him.  We have not set a goal as we do not know what it will cost to treat him, or if there are any other issues with his health.  We also will neuter, vaccinate, hw test, microchip him, and get him into an obedience training class (once he is good as new again).  So, any donation is appreciated.  No amount is too small.

Hello All -

We picked up Bronco from Bolingbrook AC today and took him straight to the vet. The vet confirmed that he has a severe case of Demodex Mange with a secondary bacterial infection. They gave him oral liquid Ivermectin, a special Shampoo called "Keratolux" (to use 2-3 times a week), and was told to give him Benadryl 3-4 times a day to reduce the itching and swelling. He is also to continue the Cephalexin that the pound vet gave him. The vet said it can take up to 90 days for him to fully heal. He does not want to do a Mitaban dip on Bronco, as it is all on his face and front end. He thinks this is the best form of treatment.

Bronco was such a good boy in the car...loved the ride! He was an angel in the vet's office too. They said he is under a year old, probably around 8 months or so. Upon bringing Bronco home to my house, he met Casper, one of our foster cats, and he was just wonderful with him. Then he met our dog, Scruff (5 yr old Dane/Pointer mix), and he was wonderful with him as well. He will meet our children and the rest of our "pack" tomorrow, as I do not want to add too much stress to his day.

Bronco will stay with me until one of our foster homes opens up. Once he is healed, he will be neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm tested. Oh, he also knows how to "sit"....so somebody spent time on him at one point. He is very gentle with treats and seems to be house broken.

I have attached a few pictures of him....he was not happy when I took the pics, as I had to take them with him in the cage...he is such a wiggle worm and would not sit still! Due to the bad lighting in my house, the pictures do not show just how bad his skin is. But you can get the idea.

If you would like to donate to Bronco's vet care, there are three options:

Use our ChipIn link:
http://reachoutrescue.chipin.com/bronco

Mail a check made out to Reach Out Rescue, NFP to: 8828 S. Pulaski, Hometown, IL 60456

Donate directly to our vet: Wheaton Animal Hospital, (630)655-1500 - Pls reference "Reach Out Rescue, NFP - Bronco".

As always, we thank you for your constant support. Without you, we would not be able to save the wonderful lives - like Bronco.

My neighbor keeps their poor dog outside.  It has been BITTER cold and I cannot convince them otherwise.  She has food, shelter, and water, so nothing can be done.

If anyone has a heated kennel pad or knows where I can get one for reasonable, please let me know ASAP.  She barks all the time so I'm sure she's cold.

thanks,

Send Email Send Email

 Hi All,

We know that many causes have had a hard year, so we'd like to try something new to
help West Jersey Volunteers for Animals that requires your participation, but is free and definitely easy.

iGive.com is going to attempt to donate $5,000 in just 24 hours to West Jersey Volunteers for Animals and other causes.

For each person who joins iGive using the special link below and does just one web search on our
site between now and noon Thursday, we'll give West Jersey Volunteers for Animals a dollar.

5,000 new members, $5,000. No purchase necessary.

Of course, if they search more (or buy something) they'll earn even more money for West Jersey volunteers for Animals.
Right now, we're donating $.02 per search and a bonus $5 for that first purchase plus the usual ercentage.

Here's where you come in. The only way West Jersey Volunteers for Animals will get new supporters and that free $1 (or more)
is if you invite them. Send your friends, family, and colleagues the following link in an e-mail, tweet it, do a  Facebook posting, put up posters, shout from mountain tops (you know the drill) and let them know you think  West Jersey Volunteers for Animals is pretty cool and deserves their support, especially since it's free! You can even just forward  this e-mail.

This is the link:
 http://www.igive.com/welcome/warm_reg_promo.cfm?m=306969

We're really proud of our search capability, powered by Yahoo! We've made tons of improvements over the  past four months, so we want lots of people to try it out and put it to the test. If they keep on searching or shopping after testing us out, so much the better for West Jersey Volunteers for Animals and iGive.com.

The details:
 - Offer active between now and 11:59 a.m., December 17, 2009 (Chicago time).
 - New members only (never have been an iGive member previously). All the normal rules of membership, searching, and purchasing apply, our site has the details.
 - Once we've given away $5,000, the offer ends.

That's it. Don't forget to try our search yourself (http://isearch.igive.com). You may need to login first.

From our families to yours, we hope you have a great holiday season.

Yours,

Robert N. Grosshandler

We are in desperate need of Purina Puppy Food or any other type of Puppy Food
for 5 German Shepherd Mix Puppies that we rescued after their Momma was taken
to the pound and euthanized while they were still nursing. They were found all
alone under a building cold, scared and hungry wondering what had happened
to their Momma. They are really starting to eat alot now. We are also in need of
a bigger dog pen for them as well. Any help we could get would be greatly
appreciated.

**These puppies are currently up for adoption and are located near Rocky Mount,

Hurricane Pets Rescue
Apologies to all and thank you to all of you for letting me know that the links weren't working :)
They are working now see below.
________________________________________________________________
Dear members and all:

As you all know our rescue had some very tough times this year.
Due to the above we were left with no choice but to asks for donations over and over again.
It is not something that we want to do nor that we enjoy doing, in fact we hate it specially now that times are so tough for everyone.
Just yesterday a second e-mail for contributions to our Christmas Fundraiser was sent and only $50.00 came in.
We thought that during Christmas out rescue will perk up and that we will get enough donations to hold us at least until March (like last year) well we were wrong, the donations that came in for Christmas will only be enough to hold us for a month or so.
We also thought that adoptions will pick up as they usually do this time a year, but we were wrong about that too, as adoptions have been dead for the type of animals we have, most being special needs, seniors and does that nobody wants such as black kitties, as we always take the difficult cases and un-adoptables.
Therefor here we are desperately asking for your help one more time, you do not need to donate to the Christmas Fundraiser although it will be nice for the tree to have more ornaments and maybe a few presents, you can donate to our general donation link here:

or if you wish to donate to our Christmas Fundraiser please do so here:

If you rather send a check you may do so by sending it to:
Hurricane Pets Rescue Inc.
2160 Bay Drive West Suite # 14
Miami Beach, Florida 33141

Either way please we are begging you to donate any amount you can, one dollar, five dollars it all counts and help with food, litter, medications, medical, vaccines, spay/neuter, saving more lives, etc., etc.

Whatever you can please donate and help us be ok at least until March, by then we will bother you again, (or maybe not if i ever win the lotto, keep praying for it but for some reason this one has not happened yet, LOL), for now all we can do is ask for you to help the animals at HPR one more time.
Can you, will you?
Your donation is always tax deductible.
God Bless you all and thank you always all of you for your HUGE hearts and for always caring.
Happy Holidays to all of you Angels may you all always and forever be blessed.

And one more thing if you are in the area and will like to come in our rescue and say Merry Christmas to our kitties and give them some love and attention, please let us know when, they will be thrilled to have you as they love visitors.
So welcome.

Pets are not just for Christmas, they are for life!!!3catsbehind

If you are considering ADOPTING or
purchasing Laba pet as a gift,
  please think about the following
  before making a decision :

paw purple Please be sure that the person really wants a pet.

paw greenIf the pet is for a child, keep in mind that many children (specially toddlers) don't fully understand
what having a pet entails.

Paw blueBe sure that the person you are giving the pet to is willing
and able to care for a pet.
Specially in such difficult times with our economy being so bad.
Pets are expensive!
Training, veterinary care, grooming, food, litter,
spay/neutering and not to mention any unexpected medical
that may arise.
"IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD THE VET, YOU CANNOT AFFORD THE PET!

Christmas will pass on but the work and responsibility
of caring for an animal remains for the life of that animal.

paw greenMany pets given at Christmas time or any other Holiday for
 that matter
end up in shelters and many puppies and kittens
end up injured because of inappropriate handling by toddlers.
The reasons are endless:
The cute puppy with the red bow around his neck chewed up the
furniture , urinated all over the place or just grew too big.
Or the cute kitten scratched the toddler because it was handled
the wrong way, so out the door it went.
Many pets given to children go out the door and into a shelters
 right after
 the Holiday novelty is over.
Many animals are turn into shelters also just because
new pet ownerd do not  realize the time and work
involved to care for for a pet.

Please pets have no voice they are in your hands,
treat them well, with respect and make them part of the family.
If you are in doubt about making a pet part of your family do not  get a pet.

Paw blueAll pets require an extraordinary amount of time,
money and effort so be wary.
Every pet needs a committed owner who accepts
the social responsibilities of pet ownership.
Dogs, in particular, require great consideration!
HPR cannot stress enough the importance of putting
 time into dogs to train,
socialize, and ensure they receive adequate exercise, etc.

If you do decide to give a pet as a Christmas gift after
reading all of the above, below are some
suggestions.

paw purpleLet the recipient choose the pet and you pay the adoption fee,
 making that your gift.
paw greenOlder pets are best for senior's as they are already settle.

paw greenCats are best for people that work too much.

Paw blueA Gold Fish makes a much better pet present for toddlers, if you have limited time, after all when you add a pet to your family
is like having another toddler, specially if the pet is a puppy.

paw purpleSave a life and ADOPT a pet from a shelter.
If you decide to buy a pet, please make sure that you do so
from a reputable breder.
Paw blueBefore adopting a pet, do some research to ensure you choose an animal who will fit the lifestyle and living arrangements of the recipient.

paw greenIf all possible choose an animal that is already spay or neutered so the recipient will not have to bear with the expense.
Spay/Neuter,
pets live longer, are far less likely to roam, run away, scratch, bite, mark territory or to develop mammal or testicular cancer.
Paw blue If the pet is not spay or neuter at the time of ADOPTION  or purchase,
you may want to purchase a gift certificate from a vet to
give to the recipient along with the pet.
paw greenIf you are looking for a purebred pet, please know that they
are many purebred cats and dogs sitting in shelters waiting
for a forever home.

paw purpleThey are many Black cats and dogs sitting in shelters which
unfortunately are the ones less likely to get adopted
and to make it out of the shelter alive because of their color,
please give them a second look and take one home.
They do look great with red bows and Santa hats!
Paw blueDisable pets and special needs animals need homes too,
they do require extra care and some a little extra attention,
but they do make wonderful pets.
After all it is going to come a time that all of us will need
extra care and attention at point as we age!
So try one for size, they make great pets.

paw greenALWAYS KEEP ONE THING IN MIND, THAT PETS ARE NOT
JUST FOR CHRISTMAS THEY ARE FOR LIFE!

With the right care and attention, pets are wonderful companions and a rewarding gift for loved ones that can afford one.
Make an informed decision.

Wishing you all a very Blessed Holiday Season.

KEV A VOLUNTEER GOT RUN OVER BY A KITTY CAT!

A volunteer (Teresa) got run over over by a kitty cat
Walking through our rescue Christmas Eve
Trying to put a Santa hat on me.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa Paws,
But as for me and my kitty pals we believe.

She'd been drinkin' too much eggnog,
And we'd begged her not to do it.
But she'd left her medication,
So she stumbled out the door into in the cold..

When they found her Christmas mornin',
At the scene of the attack,
There were paw prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin' kitty Claus marks on her back.

R: A volunteer (Teresa) got run over by a kitty cat
Walking through our rescue Christmas Eve
Trying to put a Santa hat on me.
(On her way home)
You can say there's no such thing as Santa Paws,
(Say there's no Santa Paws)
But as for me and my kitty pals, we believe.
(Lord, we believe)

Now we're all so proud of all the kitties,
They been takin' this so well.
See them there playing,
pouncing, napping and purring with each other.

It's not Christmas without Teresa
All the family's dressed in black.
And we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?

R: A volunteer got run over by a kitty cat.
Walking through our rescue Christmas Eve.
(Midnight before Christmas)
You can say there's no such thing as Santa Paws,
(Say there's no Santa)
But as for me and my kitty pals we believe.
(Lord, we believe)

Now the goose is on the table (Friskie's Turkey)
And the scratch pad has catnip.
And a blue and silver toy
That would have just matched the hair in Teresa's wig.

A license should be require for that!

A volunteer (Teresa) got run over by a kitty cat
walking thorough our rescue Christmas Eve
trying to put a Santa hat on me!
you could say there is  no such thing as Santa Paws
but as for me and MY KITTIE PALS
WE BELIEVE,
WE BELIEVE,
IT SHOULD BE A GOOD FOREVER HOME FOR ALL OF US!
(sing it)
I've warned all our friends and HPR volunteers
better watch out for yourselves
They should never give a Christmas hat nor reindeer antlers to a a volunteer
with a mission of dressing up kitty cats!
dear santa
Dear Santa Paws:
My name is Kevin.
I wish nothing more than a SANE HOME for Christmas,
I am a good boy and I am certain that I am not on your naughty list,
I don't care about catnip or toys, I just want a SANE home for me and also one if possible for each of my kitty pals, specially for my FIV+ buddy Dior.
Can you please make people understand that fiv is not a death sentence, that is NOT  transmitted to humans, neither it is transmitted to other cats unless they fight and break the skin and the wound is DEEP.
Currently me and my buddy Dior share a house with many other kitties and we all love each other and live in harmony.
Please Santa Paws can you explain that to people so we can get a home once and for all.

Thank you.
Kev  (NO LAST NAME YET)
