Warning

My husband got a call from a lady who is with the State Dept. of
Agriculture. It
was about a man calling himself Tom who calls people in the paper who have
found lost dogs. He goes on to tell the people a story of how he is having
family
problems and that he needs a very loving dog. He is from the Bradenton
[Oklahoma] area. He's actually using the dogs for HIS OWN PERSONAL
EXPERIMENTS! Please pass this along to anyone you know.

As you know, bill H8183 banning lions, tigers, bears and elephants in RI
passed the House and is headed for the Senate. The committee the bill will
be heard in is the Senate Judiciary committee. I have included an email
block for each Senator on that committee. The chairwoman is Paiva-weed. I
have also included a sample letter that you can send. If you can write your
own, that would be great. They seem to catch on to the repeat letters. No
big deal though. I'd rather you sent something, than nothing. Don't feel
obligated to include your address. Some of the Reps took offense to out of
state interest and some enjoyed it. I don't know the date of the hearing
yet. I do know that the Senate majority leader said that the bill was "not
high on their priority list." We need to make it high on their list. Let's
bombard them with facts and statistics. Thanks for your help. I will let
you all know when the date for the hearing is set. You can check our
website for updates and full contact info for the Senators.

Dear Senator:

The Senate Judiciary Committee will be hearing testimony regarding bill RI
H-8183, which would ban the use of elephants, lions, tigers and bears for use
as display by a unaccredited zoo or in a performance.

I am writing to urge you to support this important bill.
There are a number of reasons why animals don't belong performing in circuses.

Public safety is a major issue when attending a circus with animals. These
animals that we are talking about are not domestic animals. They are wild
animals in captivity. The use of dangerous animals in performances can
jeopardize public safety and often puts children at greatest risk. Since
1990, 47 people have been killed and more than 100 seriously injured by
captive elephants. This number includes trainers, bystanders and riders.
These elephants go on "rampages" as a result of years of captivity and abuse.
It happens all too often. Elephants also pose a threat of infecting the
public with tuberculosis. Ringling Bros' Florida elephant facility is
currently under quarantine due to an outbreak of the human strain of
tuberculosis.

Circuses portray a distorted view of wildlife. In nature, bears don't ride
bicycles, elephants don't stand on their heads, and a tiger would never jump
through fire. In the wild, elephants travel up to 30 miles a day. A lion or
tiger's range is hundreds of acres. In captivity for entertainment, these
animals are deprived of their natural behaviors and their basic needs to
exercise, roam, socialize, forage, and play. The elephants' complex social
structure is destroyed. In the wild, elephants travel in herds. Baby
elephants will nurse from their mother for up to 8 years, and the females
remain with their mother for their entire life.

The circus forces these animals to perform night after night, for 48 to 50
weeks every year. Elephants are kept chained by one front leg and one back
leg for 95-99% of their lives. Tigers and lions are "stored" in cages that
are the equivalent of leaving your cat in his pet carrier, all day, everyday.
Bears are caged and forced to constantly wear a muzzle. New animals are
kept in isolation until they learn to fear their trainer. Elephants, lions,
tigers and bears suffer terribly from the rigors of travel and training.
Stereotypic behaviors such as swaying back and forth, head bobbing, pacing,
bar biting, and self-mutilation are common signs of mental distress. These
animals are trucked state to state and climate to climate. Elephants are
often chained in scorching hot boxcars for 18 hours unable to move from their
own excrement. Left for days in trucks and boxcars, animals have been found
dead inside.

The training methods used with these animals are abominable. If you sit back
and think for a second how the tiger, one of the most ferocious animals in
the world, could be made to jump through a ring of fire, or how an elephant,
the largest and most powerful creature on earth, could be coaxed to stand on
its head, you would come up with this answer-- fear, punishment and
intimidation --electric prods, whips and bullhooks. That is what these
animals endure day in and day out, in the name of entertainment. This
lifestyle takes its toll on these poor animals. A former Ringling Brothers
employee told the Elephant Alliance how the circus treated one animal: 'She
was a sweet little innocent brown bear who never hurt anyone...but sometimes
she had trouble balancing on the high wire. She was then beaten with long
metal rods until she was screaming and bloody. She became so neurotic that
she would beat her head against her small cage. She finally died.'
In 1998, Kenny, an endangered baby Asian elephant was forced to perform while
he was sick. When the second performance came to a close, so did Kenny's
short life. On August 28, 1998, the USDA charged Ringling Bros. for violating
the Animal Welfare Act. This awesome, endangered animal lived a mere
fraction of his life (expectancy is 75 years) because he was forced to
perform in a CIRCUS.
On March 26, 1998, the USDA issued Ringling a "strong letter of warning"
because an enraged trainer shot an endangered Bengal tiger five times with a
12-gauge shotgun while the tiger was locked in his cage.

There are plenty of wonderful circuses that don't include animals. Circus
Chimera, Circus Millennia, Circus Oz, Circus Smirkus (tours New England
area), Cirque Éloize, Cirque Ingénieux, Cirque du San Jose, Cirque du Soleil,
Earth Circus, Gregangelo & Velocity Circus Troupe, Make A Circus and The New
Pickle Family Circus. These well known and well loved circuses can provide
as much if not more enjoyment and revenue, without the danger, abuse and
torment.

I hope I can count on your support to outlaw the cruelty and the danger of
wild animal exhibits and performances. It only makes sense to teach children
about wild animals while they are in their natural environment--the wild.
Using animals in "entertainment" teaches children nothing about the natural
world. It is not worth the harm caused to these sensitive, intelligent
beings. It is not worth putting the public at risk.

Sincerely,

Help Save the Mexican Wolf!

With only eight Mexican wolves left in the American Southwest, we
need your
help to ensure that the most critically endangered wolf in the world
stays on the
road to recovery.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) recently approved an
important proposal to move previously reintroduced endangered gray
wolves into New Mexico's Gila Wilderness and surrounding national
forest lands -- an area far away from roads, people and livestock.
The ability to move wolves is a valuable management option that
allows for quick responses to conflicts that have resulted in the
death of livestock and wolves.

In order for wolves to gain a foothold in the Southwest, like their
counterparts in
Yellowstone and central Idaho, additional Mexican wolves must be
reintroduced into this remote area. Releasing Mexican wolves into the
Gila Wilderness will
significantly reduce conflicts with people and livestock, avoid wolf
deaths, and
expose wolves to abundant native prey.

However, anti-wolf interests are mobilizing against any future
reintroductions. Help save the critically endangered Mexican wolf by
visiting http://www.savewolves.org. Send a free e-mail to the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service urging them to allow the release of Mexican
wolves that have not been previously released into this remote area
of New Mexico.

Dear Newsletter Owner,

I am writing to you today to ask you a question. Love All Animals is starting
an alliance between animal rights groups. We are already trying to request
memberships with PETA, IDA, and Farm Santucary. As with many other internet
groups. The follwing is an overview of the alliance:

The Alliance will belong of only animal related groups. You must recommend
other animal rights groups, that are part of the group, however you would
like. You will become part of a group. The main reason for this alliance, is
that we, the list owners, can have people to talk to, and that if we recieve
a question we have someone to talk to. Any other ideas for this group will be
considered. If you would like to join or have anymore questions please
respond to this letter.

Oppose Illegal Poaching & Resumption of Ivory Trading

Barely ten years ago, wild elephants in Africa and Asia were hurtling
towards extinction. Poachers were killing elephants in record numbers
to feed the international demand for the ivory from elephant's tusks
and their hides. Elephants in Africa were particularly hard hit, with
populations in many countries nearly destroyed. In 1989, the nations
of the world took action through the Convention on International Trade
on Endangered Species (CITES) to ban the international ivory trade and
stop the wholesale slaughter of the world's elephants.

In 1997, CITES allowed a one-time trade in stockpiled ivory to resume
from some countries. That experiment resulted in dramatic increases
in poaching, both in the countries involved in the trade and across
Africa and Asia.

This past April in Nairobi, Kenya, the world's nations were once again
asked at CITES to approve a proposal to lift the ban and allow the
ivory trade to resume. In the end, this request was withdrawn, but the
poaching and illegal trade that was sparked by the experimental ivory
sale continues. To bring this poaching under control and to ensure
that it doesn't explode again if the ivory trade resumes, governments
must act now to enforce their laws and build their capacity to combat
elephant poachers now and in the future.

Help save elephants by visiting http://www.helpelephants.org! Send a
free e-mail to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service urging them to
support elephant conservation and work to oppose illegal poaching and
future efforts to resume international trade in ivory.

Sincerely,

WHAT DO 1,000 PEOPLE HAVE IN COMMON?

On February 22, 2000 a petition was launched against Procter and Gamble. This
petition, with over 1,200 signature, is being sent to Procter and Gamble in
August. It will be available on the Internet until August. Till then Love All
Animals will be going through the petition and taking off duplicate
signatures.

The petition calls for Procter and Gamble to end its animal testing. Procter
and Gamble continues to test on animals, even though no law requires it. Also
there are more than 550 other companies that do not test on animals.

If corporations as big as Gillette and Revlon can ensure their customers
safety by using non-animal tests, why can't Procter and Gamble?

Proctor & Gamble has blinded and poisoned thousands of animals, including
mice, rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. During such tests, laboratory workers
drip chemicals into the eyes of restrained rabbits, force substances down the
animals' throats and fill their cages with toxic fumes. No surprise that such
poisoning can cause convulsions, vomiting, bleeding from the nose and mouth
and painful deaths. The animals are often locked into restraining devices so
they can not escape the pain; they do not get sedatives or post-exposure
painkillers. Some animals used in such tests have broken their necks or backs
trying to escape.

The recipient of this petition will be Durk Jager, the CEO of Procter and
Gamble. We encourage you to write a letter to Procter and Gamble and say that
you will not buy while they die.

You may visit the petition at:
http://www.petitionpetition.com/cgi-bin/cgi11.cgi?petition_id=217.

I'm taking this time to discuss something not animal related. So if you don't
want to read it please exit the message. For those of you that want to listen
continue. Something happened that was tragic in April 1999. This was the
Columbine Shooting. Many people died. 2 of which I knew. But today while
reading the newspaper I read an article about another one of my friends
commiting suicide Two days ago. He hung himself. When is this going to stop?
When are we going to remove violence from schools? Parents send us kids to
school and trusts that school as a haven. Now do we have to be afraid of
school? We already have to be afraid outside of school. It's time that we
take a stand. We must say that we are going to prevent violence in schools in
anyway. I will be the first to say it. NO MORE VIOLENCE! It has to end.
Schools are for learning. And I can't be afraid to learn. I am writing to you
today to remember the Shooting. Never forget it. Use it as an example that
things will last far after the event. Nothing will ever undo what is done. I
have been grieving the entire day. Please pray for my friends and all the
victims of violence in schools. Please stand with me to put an end to
violence in schools. I am interested in what you think. Please tell me what
you think at LAAPrez@.... And please forward this to anyone you know.

As Brave as Her (Cassie Bernall)

Would I have been as brave as her,
When her young life was taken in a blur?
"I believe in Jesus" was her cry,
as wicked bullets began to fly.

Would I have been as brave as her,
When such evil stared her in the face?
Could I have boldly claimed my faith,
And died so bravely in His Grace?

Could I be as brave as her today?
Express my faith; what will I say?
Although I'm not at death's door,
Can I take His message and let it soar?

Could you be as brave as her today?
Stand against evil, come what may?
Her precious life has fleeting past,
Do something for her that will forever last.

Laws

Your laws ignore our deepest needs
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage.
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms.
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere.
And ask the question "WHY"?

You regulate restrictive laws.
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand.
That God is what we need!

Take Action to Help Save the Sea Otter!

The southern sea otter was once abundant from the shores of northern
California through the coast of the Baja Peninsula. However, due to
the booming market for furs in the 19th Century, the population was
almost completely destroyed. In 1977 the southern sea otter was
protected as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.

After encouraging signs of recovery, sea otter numbers have declined
dramatically in recent years. Scientists are baffled as to why sea
otter numbers are steadily declining along the California coastline
and are powerless to stop the downward spiral. Exposure to
pollutants such as oil or other chemicals, disease, and a limited
food source due to human over-harvesting of their sea urchins and
abalone are all culprits.

Research is desperately needed to uncover the causes of the decline
and create a solution, however, repeated federal budget cuts have
eliminated money for even some of the most basic studies

Help save sea otters by visiting http://www.saveseaotters.org! Send a
free e-mail to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service urging them to
allocate the necessary funding for scientific
research on the reasons for the decline in sea otter populations!

Sincerely,

Protect Polar Bears & Their Arctic Habitat:
Send a Free e-mail to Congress

Under the guise of combating high gas prices, some in Congress are
launching a sneak attack to open the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge's 1.5 million-acre coastal plain to oil exploitation. The
coastal plain is often called "America's Serengeti"
because of its
abundant caribou, polar bear, grizzly bear, wolf and other wildlife
populations and represents the last five-percent of Alaska's
Arctic
Slope not already open to development.

The coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge is the nation's most important
onshore polar bear denning habitat. While denning, polar bears are
especially sensitive to human activity such as overflights, ships,
road construction, vehicle traffic, seismic work, drilling and oil
transport. Once disturbed, polar bears are likely to abandon their
dens.

Earlier this year, conservationists narrowly defeated a proposal to
open the Refuge's coastal plain to oil development. But, drilling
proponents have already stated that they plan to offer similar
provisions later this Congressional session. We can't let that
happen.

Help save polar bears by visiting http://www.savepolarbears.org/!
Send a free e-mail to your Representative and Senators urging them to
protect the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from
oil and gas!

Sincerely,

Save Polar Bears Campaign

Help Save the Mexican Wolf!

With only eight Mexican wolves left in the American Southwest, we
need your
help to ensure that the most critically endangered wolf in the world
stays on the
road to recovery.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) recently approved an
important proposal to move previously reintroduced endangered gray
wolves into New Mexico€  '²s Gila Wilderness and surrounding national
forest lands -- an area far away from roads, people and livestock.

Please, Please, if you truly care about animals read on and follow this
tragic situation.
Who do you call, when an animal needs help? Who is there to give help?

Certainly not the RSPCA, there policies are at best ridiculous and at worst
murderous.

In short I always thought they were the good guys, I was looking with my
eyes shut, I was very much blind.

This organization murdered my friend, he was a ferret called "Boe", he did
nothing wrong, he never killed or hunted or harmed anyone, he was a family
pet, but they killed him anyway.

His only mistake was to find sanctuary when he was lost, to trust, to
believe that they would keep him safe.........

He left behind a family and not just the two legged kind, but the four, 6
kittens and a Jill, his family. He will never know his children.

They condemned him within three hours of picking him up, how can they
justify that?

I can only ask please, I beg you for Boe's and all other animals alike,
please help us stop this slaughter of rescued pets.

You can help by telephoning RSPCA Brecon 0990 555999 and voicing your
disgust at the slaughter of Mr. Young's ferret (namely Boe) of Whitchurch,
Cardiff

Boe's story is posted and updated at

Caving to foreign trade pressure, the Clinton Administration has
weakened the dolphin-safe tuna label, putting dolphins in grave
danger once again. The dolphin-safe tuna label was established in
1990 to protect dolphins from tuna fishermen who chase, harass,
encircle, capture, harm and even kill dolphins. It ensured that any
tuna caught by intentionally netting dolphins could not be
labeled "dolphin-safe" and sold in the United States.

Tuna fishermen in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean found that
setting nets on dolphins to catch the tuna swimming underneath was a
lucrative technique for tuna fishing, even though the practice is
extremely harmful to dolphins. Seven million dolphins have been
killed in the past 40 years from this practice. Since the
dolphin-safe tuna program was adopted, dolphin deaths have decreased
by 97%.

The newly approved standard will now allow dolphin-netted tuna to be
sold as "dolphin-safe." The Clinton Administration's decision was
made despite the fact that at least two dolphin species in the
eastern tropical Pacific are already listed as depleted by the Marine
Mammal Protection Act.

Help save the dolphins and e-mail President Clinton today. Send him a
free e-mail urging him to restore the "real" dolphin-safe tuna label

Circus shows that feature animal acts, such as the Ringling Bros., Barnum &
Bailey, and Shrine Circuses, are a sad testament to old traditions that
should be laid to rest. These events no longer bring joy to any
conscientious adult or sensitive child who thinks for even a moment about
the fate of the animals involved.

The acrobats, the clowns, and the amazing human feats continue to draw
customers to the circus - not the animals. The undeniable success of Cirque
du Soleil (and many similar travelling shows) attests to this fact.

Chains, small cages, unending travel, and few days off, not to mention
impatient and often cruel caretakers, can make any circus animal's life
miserable.

The animals deserve a better life. Please forward this message to your
friends and family. Attend only animal-free circus shows. Visit
circuses.com for more information. The animals thank you.

HELP!!! DOG FRIENDLY RENTAL NEEDED IN MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA FOR ME AND
MY AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER!!!

My landlord has just notified me that he has "changed his mind" about
letting me have a dog! He said to get rid of her by the first of
April. I rescued "Sugar" at 9 weeks old, she was found along side the
road and turned in to the SPCA. She is now 4 months.

Are there any landlords out there with a pet-friendly rental in
Monterey / Seaside / Carmel Valley, California? Sugar is housebroken,
quiet and has proved to be a loyal well-behaved angel. She has
completed basic puppy training, has all her shots and will be spayed
next month.

**** 2 br house or apt. (w/ sm yard?) - max rent $825 (or) 1 br apt -
max rent $550 **** Monterey / Seaside / Carmel Valley *****

I really hate to move, I love my home; but I love my new companion,
and will gladly move to keep her in my life! Most rentals in this
area are very pet- unfriendly. Going through the classifieds is very
frustrating ( almost every ad says "no pets" ).

Please email me if you have a rental in our area or any suggestions
to help us stay together!

Shel,
Sorry I haven't been around lately, but my position
was ABRUPTLY changed at work & I no longer have easy
access to a computer or the internet in order to
participate in online conversations or debates.
When & if I do get a chance, I will correspond. But
for now, I will probably not be debating on the clubs
much (if at all).

Hey Poet...Hi.

I was Scrubbing the Cooters out of my Hair this morning and Guess what?I seen
this outline of a Bunnie on the back of the Bottle while I was reading the
Directions.

What struck me was the Statement that the Shampoo was Animal Tested Free, yet
there is Chemicals I recognized as being previously Animal Tested in the past.

  Am I being lied to?
