Wondering how we can tell ETSY to stop selling these disgusting items.
This is one of the grossest I’ve seen.  On the other hand, all fur coats should carry the animals’ heads as well which might gross out lots of people who would wear fur otherwise.

Early February in Germany sees what is known as Fox Week; whilst the name would appear to support something in the way of national Fox protection, it is very much the opposite - it is a week or more where hunters and blood sport enthusiasts throughout Germany attempt to kill as many foxes as they can for the sadistic pleasure.

 

Below you will find a few photographs showing the killings which take place every year in Germany during Fox week.

Some German campaigners have now created a website and initiative aimed at pressurising the government to establish an annual close season for foxes; because as it is at the moment, foxes can be hunted for the entire 12 months of the year.

 

The campaigners in Germany are looking for support from other animal welfare organisations regardless of where in the world they are.

We have been asked by our friends in the USA (thanks Robin!) to highlight a terrible case of cruelty to two kittens who were put into a plastic bag which then had the air sucked from it – killing the kittens. The teenager later went onto ‘brag’ about it on the internet whilst posting a sick video of him doing so. The following pictures and story (below, quiet upsetting) will tell you more. The USA animal rescue group RESCUE INK are offering a $2500 reward. Thankfully the media have started coming on board to highlight the issue too.

 

We need everyone to please highlight this issue on facebook and get the teenager responsible for this hideous act of brutality.

Hunt for sick teenage kitten killer who suffocated two cats in 'snuff' video

A sick teenager who filmed himself killing two kittens by placing them inside an airtight bag and using a vacuum cleaner to suck out the air was being hunted by internet users across the world today.

In horrifying footage posted online, the young thug is seen gently stroking the tiny tabby cats before placing them in the bag.

As John Lennon's Merry Christmas (War Is Over) plays in the background, he calmly seals the bag and attaches a vacuum cleaner hose.

In distressing scenes, too graphic to be posted on MailOnline, the cleaner is then switched on and the air is slowly sucked out of the bag.

The mewing kittens can be seen wriggling around and clawing to escape as the polythene tightens around them.

After switching off the cleaner, the sick teen opens the bag and proudly holds up the body of one of the kittens for his camera, before displaying them on his bed.

The horrifying footage has prompted outrage across the internet, with hundreds of amateur sleuths attempting to identify the cat killer.

The 'snuff' film - a term for killings filmed for people's gratification - was originally uploaded to the YouTube website, but was later removed.

It appears to have been made solely by the youngster, who is seen smoking a cigarette and wearing a blue hooded jumper in a dingy bedroom.

The footage is reminiscent of a film posted online recently of a girl in Bugojna, Bosnia, who threw puppies into a fast-flowing river. After a web hunt for her she was quizzed by police but never prosecuted.

A Facebook group entitled Find the Kitten Vacuumer has attracted almost 1,000 members.

One member, Aron Bas, wrote: 'I can't bring myself to watch these beautiful and innocent kittens take their last breath. I hope the evil scumbag is found and locked away.'

Others expressed fears that someone capable of killing two helpless animals could go on to kill people.

Speculation among the group's members has suggested the killer is from Latvia or another Eastern European country.

One post said the IP address of the web user who posted the footage on YouTube showed the uploading took place in Hamburg, Germany.

Animal rights groups have vowed to help track down the teenager and PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - said it was following up a number of leads.

A spokesman said: 'PETA U.S.’s Cruelty Investigations Department is actively following up possible leads to determine the identity and whereabouts of the man in the video.

'Animal abusers are cowards who take their issues out on the most defenceless beings available to them. The pain and fear that these tiny kittens must have experienced is unimaginable.

'Anyone capable of carrying out such a merciless and callous act should concern us all, as research into criminology and psychology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals are likely to pose a danger to the entire community. 

'We strongly urge anyone with any information regarding this case to please contact PETA U.S.'s Cruelty Investigations Department.'

An RSPCA spokesman said it would prosecute the person involved if the killings took place in Britain.

BEIJING — More than 40 Chinese animal rights groups on Thursday hit out at Canada for turning China into a "dumping ground" for its seal meat and oils, after the products were banned in the European Union.

The agreement to allow the imports into China was reached during a visit to Beijing by Canadian Fisheries Minister Gail Shea, and follows an EU ban on seal product imports imposed after an activist outcry over commercial seal hunting.

"'Do not give to others what you yourself do not want' is an ancient Chinese proverb," said Lu Di, head of the China Small Animal Protection Association.

"It is insulting for Canada to market these products in China," she added in a statement emailed to AFP, also backed by 41 other animal protection groups around China.

The Canadian government maintains that the 350-year-old commercial seal hunt is crucial for some 6,000 North Atlantic fishermen who rely on it for up to 35 percent of their total annual income.

Animal rights groups however say it is barbaric, and have waged an aggressive campaign in recent years to stop the annual hunt.

"Yes, Chinese consumers have impressive purchasing power," Qin Xiaona, director of Beijing's Animal Welfare Association, said in the statement.

"Yet, I am sure Chinese consumers would reject without a moment's hesitation seal products if they knew the cruelty behind them. With rising environmental awareness, many people have vowed to be ethically responsible consumers."

China is the third largest importer of Canadian fish and seafood, behind the United States and European Union.

By authorising seal meat and oil imports, China joins Japan and South Korea as new markets for Canadian seal products.

The animal rights movement is gradually gaining ground in China -- which for years has had a dismal record on animal welfare -- amid increased public awareness, especially among the younger generation.

The nation's first draft animal protection law is currently being discussed, but is not expected to come into force for several years.

An Open Letter to Gail Shea, Canadas Fisheries Minister

 

Minister Shea:

We are animal loving citizens from across China. We are in the millions in number and are growing by day. Care for the weak, love of life, and striving for the harmony between humans and nature are the unstopped trend of the contemporary time. Living in this era, we feel proud to follow this trend. Yet, your arrival in China and the Canadian delegation you are leading, the second of its kind since last year, for promoting Canadian seal product sale in China, are nothing but an act  hindering Chinas progress in modernization and civilization.

Do not give others what you yourself do not want is an ancient Chinese saying.  Known to all, Canadian seal products are made out of the blood and flesh of the seal pups and out of the blood and tears of the mother seals.  The cruelty of seal products has been condemned by the majority of Canadians and others in Europe and the Americas. How can you peddle this shameful product to China? You have come to China two years in a row to promote the morally repulsive products. Do you, Minister Shea,  realize what kind of wrongs you are committing?

First of all, going out of your way to promote Canadian seal products to Chinese consumers is indicative of your position supporting the racist and cultural imperialistic bias towards the Chinese people held by the sealing industry. The perceptions that Chinese eat everything and that Chinese care nothing about animal suffering show how outdated the Canadian sealing industrys view of the Chinese people is, a view that is reminiscent of the prejudice against non-Western people and non-Western culture held by the West when it was brutalizing the non-Western world in the old days. China has a legacy of compassion for all living creatures. Progress in animal protection in the contemporary era has also been recognized. Based on what can the Canadian sealing industry claim that the Chinese nation is indifferent to animal suffering? Minister Shea, what makes you the advocate of seal product sale in China, products that are hugely controversial and morally indefensible?

Second, the view that Chinese consumers will embrace products of animal cruelty indicates Canadas complete out-of-touch with reality in China. The world is watching every new development in China in order to be on the same page with Chinas breathtaking transformation.  Refusing to face reality in China is a sign of arrogance on the part of the Canadian government. Since China initiated its economic reform program, the public environmental protection awareness has been rising. More and more consumers are consuming with a view to protect environment and the ecosystem. The Canadian government and sealing industry, by attempting to dump the seal products on the Chinese markets,  show little respect to the Chinese consumers.

Third, by promoting seal products in China, Shea is destroying the good image Canada has long enjoyed in China. Canada is one of the first Western nations that extended diplomatic recognition to the Peoples Republic of China. Dr. Norman Beethune, a Canadian surgeon who worked in China during the Second World War, was a hero to the Chinese people. Mark Roswell, a Canadian student-turned comedian, is a celebrity in China. Both gentlemen have helped shorten the distance between China and Canada. Canadian sealing industry is undoing in China what Dr. Beethune and Mr. Roswell have accomplished. You only need to access Chinas biggest online portal (http://news.qq.com/photon/tpyk/haibao.htm) and read the more than 16,000 readers comments to realize how Canadas image has been tarnished because of Canadian brutality against baby seals.

Fourth, to China, Canadian seal products are like the opium dumped on China by Great Britain in the early 19th century. Both seal products and opium serve to encourage irresponsible consumer behaviors. Worse still, they can poison young consumers. Opium sold to China did great damage to the bodies of the Chinese consumers. Seal products, a symbol of violence to the weak and of indifference to brutality, can distort the souls and destroy the spirit of the Chinese consumers.  As a developed Western democracy, Canada should help Chinas progress in civilization. It has NO right to sabotage it by dumping morally objectionable products in China.

Finally, descriptions of seal products sold in the Greater China Region are full of exaggerations and misleading information. What is the scientific basis of the claimed power of the seal oil products? Some seal oil products are made specifically for infants. What are the possible side-effects or consequences if the product is accidentally taken orally by the infant?  What is the residue level of harmful elements in the seal oil product, a level that is harmful to health?  Canada should be ready all time to take responsibilities for any health consequences incurred by Canadian seal products.

Minister Shea and Canadian government, promoting seal products to China is terribly unwise, short-sighted and unworthy. Seal products brutalize defenseless seal pups, sabotage Chinas modernization (in moral development), poison and harm Chinese consumers, and tarnish Canadian international image. Dumping the unwanted seal products harms China without even benefiting Canada.

Does Canada want to repeat the mistake of opium dumping Great Britain?

As you surely know I'm from Denmark.
Denmark killed the last wolf in 1813 and my greatest desire is to bring wolves back to my country. They are an important part of our entire eco-system and also for Sweden, Norway and Finland. They are misunderstood animals and more afraid of humans than we are for them. Wolves only kill for surviving and they always go after the weaker animals who do not have many chances for survival in the wild.
Please don't let Sweden do the same as my country done.

Google - Chinese to English translation – not at all accurate but one has an idea about what the efforts of animal rights activists to bring the fur issue to the table. 
 
We surely have an uphill struggle here with the Chinese society being able to afford fur.  My goodness what a horrible task this will be for all of us who so fight to bring some relief to fur bearing animal suffering!  Below is a list of animal groups in China working on it.  But there is a good side to it:  When Chinese citizens “work with the government and NOT against it” they get a lot.  China has just banned animals in circus (how long have we been fighting this in the US?) and zoos are under check for mistreatment of animals.  They have also banned crush videos from websites.  AND if anyone remember years ago when they culled several thousands of dogs.......It was the people’s revolt that made the China president put a stop it.   So, there are two sides of the coin here.  Working with the Chinese groups within China is still the best way to help animals in China.

Bloody New Year refuse to buy new clothes do not wear fur

As the saying goes, Resolutions. Chinese families purchase new clothes to celebrate the Chinese New Year for many essential programs. When buying new clothes, you must pay attention to advertising over a wide range of fur clothing, fur painted the elegant, fashion, society far beyond the original intention of wearing fur in the cold.

Data show that the global annual output of 2.5 million in the fur, China consumed 1.5 million of them, not only that, people on the fur still on the rise of the consumer. However, few fur brands will tell you, this gorgeous soft fur behind the brutal massacre of countless lives, suffering death.

Chinese New Year season, festive, and we appeal to you, and refuse to buy the bloody New Year with us, do not wear fur clothes, the fashion away from the killings, not cruel to beauty. Please boycott fur products around the exhibition, to your friends to communicate our initiative to jointly become the 2011 New Year handsome people.

Canada police investigate 100 husky deaths

Sled dogs pull tourists during a tour run by Outdoor Adventures in the Soo Valley north of Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011. The dogs were reportedly used to pull tourists' sleds during the 2010 Winter Olympics

Canadian police are investigating the reported killing of 100 huskies which had been used to pull tourist sleds in the ski resort of Whistler.

An animal rights group claims the dogs were killed inhumanely by an outdoor adventure company and thrown into a mass grave.

Local media reports say business slumped after the 2010 Winter Olympics and the dogs were no longer needed.

The company could not be reached for comment.

"We've opened a police file and assigned an investigator," Police Sergeant Steve LeClair told AFP.

'Throats slit'

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in British Columbia, alleged that an Outdoor Adventures employee was told to cull the dogs in April last year.

Manager of animal cruelty investigations, Marcie Moriarty, claimed that some dogs were shot, while others had their throats slit. The bodies were then thrown into a mass grave.

The killings came to light after the employee who did the culling was compensated for post-traumatic stress disorder afterwards, AFP news agency reports.

The employee's personal injury lawyer, Cory Steinberg, told news radio station CKNW: "It wasn't always a clean, one-shot kill. Inevitably he ended up seeing and having to put the end to some horrific scenes."

The company had reportedly expected an expansion in its sledging business after the Olympics, but it failed to materialise.

Kudos for you, Pei!  Also, for those who didn’t know, there is an anti-fur group in Beijing but they do not call themselves “ANTI” but are vegans and do events to educate people about fur.

Your Excellency:

On this occasion at the start of the Chinese New Year, permit me to
bring the plight of rabbits and other species of animals on Chinese fur
farms.


For the millions of individual rabbits and other animals suffering on
Chinese fur farms, will this Year of the Rabbit prove any different? 
Will it bring them happiness, freedom, good health, success and all the
things which we humans want for ourselves and our families?

These gentle animals spend nearly their entire lives crammed in filthy
wire cages that are so small that the animals are often unable to move
more than a few tiny
steps. They are born and raised to die at the hands of workers who kill
them using methods such as neck-breaking, suffocation, poisoning, and
electrocution
that keep the rabbits' skin intact so that it can be sold. The skin of
rabbits who are not fortunate enough to die instantly is often ripped
from their bodies while they are
still conscious.

Recently, when I read in an English newspaper in my hometown of
Bangalore that China had forbidden circus acts in animals, I was
delighted.  Indeed, China has progressed enormously in various fields of
human endeavour including ethical treatment of animals.  I was equally
happy to learn that China may not agree to import seal meat from Canada,
given the enormous and barbarous cruelty involved in clubbing seals to
death in Canadian waters and even skinning the hapless animals alive,
including young pups.  China has done the right thing in seeing this
primitive seal slaughter in the right perspective.

It is undeniable that cruelty towards helpless and voiceless, non-human
sentient creatures is vile, base, cowardly and downright immoral. 
Stronger creatures such as humans ought to exercise clemency and
gentleness towards weaker creatures.  I am certain that such ideals are
enshrined in the grandeur of China's philosophic heritage by way of
Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.  Therefore, during this Year of the
Rabbit, I hope that China will make even greater progress towards
banning cruel and inhuman practices involving the torture and painful
death of millions of defenceless animals.

Fur traders hit back at appeals by animal rights campaigners for Hong Kong
people not to buy rabbit fur in the Year of the Rabbit, saying claims the
animals are skinned alive and tortured are untrue.

The Hong Kong Fur Federation, which has about 150 members exporting fur
worldwide, says rabbit fur is popular and that allegations of brutal
treatment made by pressure group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
(Peta) are "clearly wrong and misinformed".

Peta waged a high-profile campaign across Asia in the run-up to the Year of
the Rabbit which included models in bikinis and bunny ears holding up
placards in Causeway Bay urging people to boycott rabbit fur.

It is widely available in Hong Kong, usually as a cheaper form of fur used
as trim on coats and hats and even on toys for cats and dogs.

Peta says its undercover investigators saw rabbits crammed in filthy cages
at fur farms on the mainland, pulled from their cages by their ears and
stunned with electrical devices before being hung upside down and
decapitated. "The manner in which they [rabbits] are killed is anything but
humane," said Peta Asia-Pacific spokeswoman Ashley Fruno.

"We want people to know that if you care about animals or want to make it a
good year for rabbits, please don't buy any fur.

"It is a matter of educating people and letting them know that the rabbit,
before he became your cuff or collar, was terrified and tortured and killed
in an absolutely brutal way."

As part of the campaign, Peta targeted celebrities who wear fur. Activist
Coco Yu wrote to actress Michele Reis telling her: "By flaunting any fur,
you are guilty of cruelty as if you had skinned the animals yourself."

Fur federation spokesman Tim Everest hit back at the campaign, saying:
"Rabbit is a very popular and economic component fur type and features
strongly in many ready-to-wear lines as well as in street fashion. Rabbit is
very versatile and easy to work with, which makes it popular with
fashionists around the world.

"It really is hard to find a designer who does not use fur - those that have
turned their back on fur have turned their backs on a powerful income stream
in really tough economic times," Everest said.

"Peta's emotional campaigns are misleading and wrong." He claimed that
dressing up as rabbits was a tactic to divert attention from Peta's
inconsistent arguments.

"Animals are not bludgeoned to death and animals are not skinned alive," he
said. "That would be horrifically and unacceptably cruel but also an
extremely difficult way to remove a pelt, both dangerous to the operator and
damaging to the fur and leather quality of the skin itself."

Everest said only 2 per cent of the worldwide rabbit fur production came
from rabbits raised on fur farms and accused the campaigners of "bashing
China at every opportunity", arguing their resources would be better spent
giving farmers guidance and education on animal welfare.

"China has been growing at impressive rates for the last two decades but
certain sectors of the economy are being left behind," Everest said. "The
agricultural sector is a case in point as farmers of all descriptions in
China remain desperately poor.

"Their own human existence, by our standards, is pretty grim. Their basic
need for survival takes precedence over many things and many of the farmers
simply do not know any better. They need help and guidance, not a ban on the
legitimate trade on which their lives depend.

"It would be more constructive to encourage the farmers to continue their
quest to improve their lives and join an education process whereby farmers
receive guidance and education on farming methods and animal welfare."

Mr Everest will eat his words. We've just returned from a week long
investigation of some of China's live animal markets where the rabbits
were indeed seen bludgeoned to death - either with wooden clubs or rocks
on wooden slabs, or in bags as they writhed in agony inside.

Do you know that the Namibian Seal cull is responsible for the largest slaughter of wildlife on the planet? It is considered to be the most brutal of all culls and is now officially responsible for the death of more seals than the Canadian cull.

terrified seals run for their lives
On the first of July, 85 000 baby seal pups and a further 6 000 bulls will be killed in the annual cull. For the next 139 days, terrified pups will be rounded up, seperated from their mothers and be violently beaten to death. The colony will be rounded up at daybreak. Pups, bulls and mothers will surrounded and kept away from the safety of the sea. Men with clubs move in and the seals run in fear.

The babies vomit their milk up in fear
The sealers will cut the little ones throats, sometimes while they are still alive. The baby seals are known to be so terrified that they vomit up their mothers milk. The sand on the beach is stained pink from all the blood. Carcasses are thrown onto the back of waiting vehicles and the bull-dozers come in to clean up the beach before the tourists arrive to view the colony.

There is not ONE animal charity that has an active campaign against this mindless slaughter. Not ONE! And each year, despite a declining population, the quota gets increased. But before I get into the quota, I want you to consider the following.

The cruelest of all culls
The Cape Fur Seal is listed on Appendix 2 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. (CITES) This means their survival is dependent on conservation. They have a natural mortality rate of around 30% within the first few weeks of being born. In Canada, sealing only begins after the pup is fully weaned and is self surviving. The Cape Fur Seal however, takes much longer to wean, up to 11 months. Clubbing begins when they are seven months old. Yes, still baby babies and very much dependent on their mothers.

Bull-dozers clean up the beach 
Loss of habitat, the fishing industry and starvation are major threats to these animals. Between 1994 and 2000 some 300 thousand seals died from starvation. In 1993 the pup production was 164 248 with a sealing TAC quota of 50 850 - (31% of pups) In 2000 the pup production was 147 823 (90% of 1993) with a sealing TAC quota of 60 000 - (41% of pups). In 2006 the pup production was 107 910 (73% of 2000) with a sealing TAC quota of 85 000 - (79% of pups) What justification is there for the Namibian government to increase the quota from 31% to 79% considering the two mass die offs in between where between a third to a half of the population died of starvation? This amounts to a seal genocide! On the first day of the cull, more pups are killed than are being born!!!

Hatem Yavuz
The ministry of fisheries claims it has on several occasions asked the public for a more humane method of culling. To date, no one has come up with a solution. The cull is driven by ONE man. Hatem Yavuz. He has the contract to buy every skin from the Namibian cull until 2019. He pays $7 per pelt while foreign tourists pay $12 to view the colony (after the bull-dozers have cleaned up the beach that is) His solution to the method of culling is, and I quote  "In order for them to feel less pain, they need to be killed with a club that has a nail in it. Yavuz, who describes himself as an animal lover, is arrogant in the extreme. He wears a necklace made from the teeth of a white whale he killed. Dubbed "The King of the Cull" Yavuz jokes in an interview with Australia's Seven News that he wears his crown with pride. He laughs at the interviewer and makes silly and snide comments the whole way through. Yavuz and his partner run their business "Hatem Yavuz Deri" from Sydney and apparently also have offices in Turkey, Russia and South Africa. Here is his e-mail address hatemyavuz@... But enough of that particular moron. I now wish to draw your attention to the hero of this story and not the villain. The Patron Saint of Cape Fur Seals is a South African who has fought tirelessly against this Namibian cull. Francois Hugo.  In 1999, Hugo established "Seal Alert-SA" as a "direct hands on organisation to address the imbalances, cruelty and abuse that has plagued this species for 600 years." Paul Watson, co-founder of "Greenpeace" and founder of "Sea Shepherd Conservation Society" has this to say

It is such people that I admire and respect most for they have shaken loose the bonds of anthropcentrism and they have pierced that mysterious but familiar veil that separates us from the other wondrous species that share this incredible planet with us. Francois Hugo is one such person whose profound love for the Cape fur seals manifests itself in a raging passion that  fuels both his anger at the injustice done to the seals and his compassion to do all that he can to defend and protect the seals. Francois is a devoted shepherd to these marvolous creatures and he needs the assistance of every person who can muster up the compassion to support him. The Namibian SPCA, who have the legal powers and mandate to prevent cruelty and end the cull, have actually condoned the violent beating of 85 000 baby seal pups to death. They have determined that this slaughter is humane. Here is the link http://tinyurl.com/4b6e2du Their lawyers claim that a seal is not an animal (according to the legal definition of Namibian legislation) and they are using this pathetic excuse to justify their ineptitude.

Very few people are even aware of the Namibian Seal Cull. Please help me raise awareness!!! Any suggestions on how to end this cull will be most appreciated.

Clad in bikinis with fake fur, members of an anti-fur group demonstrate in Shibuya.

Visitors to Shibuya on Sunday morning were mostly wrapped up for the winter cold. But there were three exceptions.

Wearing little more than sexy bikinis, three young women carried placards with horrific images of animal cruelty. This was the latest publicity stunt by non-profit organization the Animal Rights Center Japan.

The ARCJ has previously organized marches by hundreds of locals through Tokyo's fashionable districts of Harajuku, Omotesando and Shibuya -- though usually in warmer months.

The girls, known as the Pretty Inside Angels (PIA), came dressed as a fox, rabbit and cat, holding messages such as "Real love is more important than real fur."

PIA -- Eri, Mayu and Airi -- have started their own twitter in an attempt to reach out to the Shibuya youth.

The ARCJ also has a website specifically dedicated to the no-fur campaign, no-fur.org, which aims to educate Japan's fashion conscious on the possible origin of some of their clothes.

Dear City Council Members,
Once again West Hollywood is in the forefront of ground-breaking legislation and has a chance to show the world that profiting from hideous animal abuse and cruelty, such as in the frivolous use of the skins/fur of animals for wearing apparel, has no place in a civilized society. "...The times they are a' changing".  I applaud and congratulate each one of you who supports this forward-thinking, compassionate legislation. Unfortunately, there are always those who resist change for many obvious and sometimes unfathomable reasons...but change is inexorable and will come no matter what...sooner or later.
 
It is my understanding that the Truth in Fur Labeling Act, which was signed into federal law in December 2010 will go into affect on March 18, 2011 no matter what, and that is fact.  Therefore, the legislation being proposed by Council Member Leslie Horvath is without value or merit.  It is clear that what Ms Horvath is doing is wasting tax payers' money and trying to appease the fur industry with a piece of legislation that is worthless. This is transparent to all.  Her proposed item would do nothing to protect animals, it would only protect furriers. Council Member Horvath is the lone voice on the city council not to support a ban on fur in the city and her motivation is obvious. 
 
We say to Ms Horvath that "it is time to get with the will of the people; it is not OK to support an industry whose victims are  torturously skinned alive, for profit and vanity!  We strongly urge you to support the BAN on the sale of fur in West Hollywood"!

Dear Madam, dear Sir,

I am deeply shocked and dismayed about the killing of the 4 wolves.

Norway had only 33 - 39 grey wolves left in the wild this winter.  But after the authorities gave hunters the licence to kill 8 wolves, the number of this critical endangered species is reduced by 4 wolves, so far.  Three of the wolves were killed during a couple of days, where almost hundred hunters chased the frightened animals and injured two of them seriously. 
For one hour the wolves suffered horrible pain - one of them with a shot in his front leg, the other from a shot in her neck, which caused her to bleed through her ears, nose and mouth - until they were traced and killed.  The third wolf was cruelly killed by a shot in his back. 

This ruthless hunt has caused a lot of anger in Norway, where the majority of the population wants a larger number of wolves then the current estimate !!!!.

The reason for the hunt:
Farmers claim that wolves destroy their living, hunters claim that wolves kill their dogs, and some people claim that wolves threaten their lives and their children's safety.

The facts:
Wolves killed 89 sheep in 2008, and 384 sheep in 2009 - out of 2 million sheep let out in the wilderness to fend for themselves.  In comparison 100.000 sheep die each summer from other reasons then wolves and other predators.

Wolves kill approximately 8 dogs each year during the hunting season, when hunters let their dogs free in the woods, to chase down the animals they want to shoot.  In comparison 700 dogs are injured and killed by cars each year, many of these hunting dogs.

One person was probably killed by a wolf in Norway - but that was 200 years ago.  In comparison 31 persons were killed by other people in Norway last year, and about 200 were killed by cars.

In spite of these facts - about one fourth of the critical endangered, extremely shy wolves are mercilessly chased down and killed this winter.

Norwegian law on the matter is not as weak as your bureaucracy chooses to interpret. It would be easy to use the precautionary principle, firmly established in Norwegian law, to overturn the current permits. Norwegian law specifies that such killing can only proceed if it does not jeopardize the viability of the species.
Let these wolves live to contribute to the future fitness and viability of the population. As a top non-human predator, a much larger population is necessary to maintain top-down regulation of healthy boreal and subarctic ecosystems, and all of their species and ecological processes.

Norway – a huge oil producer, as well as supporter of rainforest protections – likes to position itself as a global ecological leader.
Yet Norway's continued barbaric wolf slaughter shows your government to be selective, naive and parochial regarding requirements for global ecological sustainability.

Please overturn the permissions for the pending massacre.
