Hi all,
I don't post often and this is not a cheery, happy posting. I lost 2 puppies
at 4 1/2 weeks with no warning and am wondering if anyone has any experience
with puppy loss at this late age.
Here is the scenario, I had a litter of 5 -alive and seemingly well at 4
weeks. I noticed the smallest male puppy was not putting weight on a hind leg-
thinking maybe mom jumped into the whelping box and jumped on him. I took him
to the vet on friday- she checked him out and said he seemed healthy and she
really couldn't tell about the leg- to just play watch and see and if he didn't
improve in a week that we would X-ray. So I took him home the puppies played in
the living room and then I put them back upstairs in the whelping box and went
out to do horse chores. I came in and went in there and the little guy had just
died. I thought " well maybe there was some internal bleeding or something that
the vet didn't notice and this was for the best but this morning I went in at
4:00 to let momma dog out and feed thre puppies their mush and another puppy was
dead. He was eating normally last night- he played in the kitchen and living
room and this morning gone. It's too
early to call the vet office so I'm looking for any ideas. I will probably
take this one in for a necropsy since there was no indication of illness of any
sort. I'm baffled and heartbroken. If anyone has any suggestions please reply
privately- I have 3 left and I don't want to lose anymore.
