Bailey is a real doll baby but she did not look too thrilled to be

 Welcome to the group. Smiley emoticon My name is Jess and I have a little girl of my own. Her name is Baylee and she is turning 5 in January. Boy, time goes too fast. It seems like yesterday that we picked her up from the breeder.
I think it's wonderful that you rescued Maggie. I want to rescue an older Beagle myself but I have to wait since I already have three dogs. The other two are Lab mix. I adore them too of course. I just have a soft spot for Beagles and when I got Baylee it was a dream come true.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi.

Hello Beagle fans!

I am very happy to have found this group.  As I type, my beagle,
Maggie, is laying on the bed behind my chair.  Maggie came into our
lives (Husband, myself and 10 year old son) in February.  She is a
rescue.  We're not sure how old she is.  Her vet records indicate
that she's 4 years old, but I suspect she's older, maybe 6 or 7. 
She is a very sweet dog and it took several months before she would
not cower when people (especially men) approached to pet her.  She
was quite thin when we adopted her but she's now 35 lbs.  My sister
also has a beagle named Jamie.  "The girls" get along very well.  My
sister and I grew up with a beagle, Charlee who lived 16 1/2 years. 
We would only consider a beagle for our homes.

I posted an album entitled "Maggie" in the photos section.  The
pictures that members posted of their beagles in this section are
adorable!

Hello Beagle fans!

Thank you K. I feel the same way you do. I love Baylee with LOVE and not with food. I tell my Mom a similar message about her health and it goes into one ear and out the other. So frustrating. Thanks fot letting me rant.

Oh, dear.  This is my pet peeve with dog "lovers".  Try explaining to your mom that she is "killing with kindness", and that her heart will break too, when Baylee dies at a young age from one of the MANY ailments caused by being overweight.  When she feels like giving a treat, she should give Baylee a kiss, instead.  Food is not Love.  Love is Love.

See, the problem is my Mom. She gives Baylee food off her plate and no matter what I say this continues. I know if Baylee lived with me only she would have no problem with her weight. I am very concerned because I know how obesity is a problem among Beagles.
For treats I give her plain cheerios. She likes them and for dry food I give her Pedigree. I have other two dogs who don't have a weight problem. I used to buy Baylee special diet dry food but now that is not something I can afford so I buy all three a big bag of Pedigree. I am hoping with the new year I will be able to buy Baylee special diet food again. I just had unexpected bills.
Thanks for the info. I will check the Science Diet Light when I go to the vet for their meds.

Obesity is a big problem in beagles, and it's very dangerous to their health.  I try to keep my 13" beagles at 18 pounds.  If they go over, I feed them 1/2 cup of Science Diet Light twice a day, and buy those bags of pre-peeled baby carrots to give to them instead of cookies.  I found the Science Light makes a big difference.

Obesity is a big problem in beagles, and it's very dangerous to their health.  I try to keep my 13" beagles at 18 pounds.  If they go over, I feed them 1/2 cup of Science Diet Light twice a day, and buy those bags of pre-peeled baby carrots to give to them instead of cookies.  I found the Science Light makes a big difference.
