Claus-

To my knowledge John Nelson is still in birds but it seems his interest in Racing Homers has increased.  I believe he just got tired of the time, effort and complaints he got for his efforts importing.  Sometimes birds died in Canadian quarantine and although it was not his fault he got blamed for it.  Hopefully after a few years away from the importing scene he will come back and once again give American fanciers a way to acquire birds from Europe.

Did Nelson go out of birds?

I still remember a 24 hour drive with him here to collect 70 Danish Tumblers because he had decided that they could become popular there..

In anyone is into imorting you should look at the Racing Homer sites, lot of those going over so you migth get some info there.

Some one with experience needs to figure out a way to get these birds from Claus and Neil into the country perhaps with birds from other breeders.  I myself am trying to figure out a way to get some Holle Croppers into the U.S. but with John Nelson out of the loop, importing has come to a stop.  Kyle Christensen is working on a shipment of Norwich from Germany perhaps someone should contact him for advice.  It would be a shame if these wonderful offers of birds go for naught if no one can figure out how to get them into the country.

If it is of any interest and use I'll donate a pair to be delievered after the 2010 breeding season. It might be young or old, but basically I guarantee the buyer will get two Bokharas and they will be from the better half of my birds.
If the buyer wants to decide color I of course cannot guarantee this.

Shipping/import costs must be paid by the buyer and  of course the ticket should be paid at the show. Then I'll work it out with the buyer.

Note should be taken that even in a bulk shipment it is not likely to get the birds to the US for less than 200$ a bird with quarantine so this should be considered.
I currently have no knowledge of planned shipments for 2010.

If the IBTC US wants to accept world offers on this it will be fine with me. I'll ship anywhere.

And if nobody bids , that is the way it was. I don't have any other options to support the club. Should the birds not get sold, I will donate 100$ towards bringing Neil over, poor
guy needs some CA sun !! :)

Rick I suspect the fact that Art Pamplona, who has recently been on top in the breed and is recognized as a top judge has spurred on this large entry.  Usually the Bokharas and ETs are next to each other at Des Moines so it is easy to see both groups.  Works out well for Orin as he is showing and seeing that things get done in both groups.

Rick-  Des Moines will also be a great show for English Trumpeters.  Orin is also asking for counts on ETs and last count was 325 with several exhibitors not included.  350 or even higher could be possible.  Bet Bokharas reach 100 so it will be a great day and a half for the Trumpeter world.  I look forward to seeing Clair Hetland again.

Let's take an unoffical count on the number of birds being shown at Des Moines this year.

Remember, it is not too late to send your entries or to enter more birds.  It will just cost you $6.00 per bird now instead of $5.00.   Entries MUST be postmarked by November 23rd.

I am entering 3 birds.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for posting  the membership list. At what point in time do you suggest we remove the names of people that are not current in their dues from our membership list? It seems that some individuals are still listed as members even though they have not paid dues for almost a year or even longer. the club web site also has individuals listed as members that are in arrears while some new members are not listed.

I am donating this book for the auction. It is by Carl A. Naether with last print in 1958.  I has some slight staining on the lower right jacket and is torn a little on the binding cover.

This is a wicker carrier donated by Dick Hermann.  He acquired it from Darrel Ferguson.  You will note it still have Darrell's name tag on it with the President's award for 1978.    Buyer must pick up or pay for shipping on top of the winning bid.    You will note that I took pictures of the underside where there is some mouse damage.

Thanks Claus.

Neil has also offered two birds out of his best but has not said what color..     His birds would also be paid for at through the club and the buyer would have to work out shipping with Neil.

Breeding Bokharas you do get some exprience in guessing what those ragged youngsters will finally look like to some degree. This young hen hatched in June and it was one I had a good feeling about..  Finally, on a cold crisp weather day here she showed her potential. She have had no wrap until today, she just had the feather type I knew could mean a nice head. Boots are good - head alone doesn't do it. Flights are timmed on one side.
Bokharas are a breed for those with patience :)

The oldest I have ever tried was 5 years old.
The most I have used a hen was 3 years. It has to be
a VERY good breeder to deserve to stay more than 2 years.
17 out 20 birds do not have outstanding breeding capacity.
