Waxworm keeping   Message List

Does anyone out there raise waxworms? I have tried several times to
raise them and they always just slowly die on me. My substrate consists
of equal parts food processed dog food and wheat germ with enough honey
to make the whole thing sticky. Its about 16oz/16oz/8oz. My environment
is an old water jug cut off about 2/3 of the way up, with the top
fitting back on over the bottom and wire mesh screen covering the mouth
of the bottle. When I dump in a fresh batch they happily eat themselves
into fat little waxies and then just before they should cacoon seem to
turn black an die?
Ideas, thoughts, techs?

So far so good. The rice cereal, wheat germ, glycerin, and honey seem to be working. My waxies look fat, active and a few are already cocooning up. Now to see...

Yes. The moths are just beginning to emerge. I still had a large amount of dead loss tho. I suspect this is due to wormmans shipping them in the heat and UPS...

Ok, so the waxies hatched It actually took about 3 weeks after all the moths died for them to hatch, or at least become visible. But I have screwed it up...

I don't know how to get them out individually, or how to stop them. In my experience waxworms leave behind a trail of webbing as they eat through things, so...
