The Brookdale Dog Park Group (BDPG) is primarily focused on fostering relationships between people that use the Dog Park; whether your goal is to schedule play dates for your dog or continue the friendships you’ve started forming at the Dog Park, this group is for you.
The Secondary goal of BDPG is to enhance the relationship of those that benefit from the Dog Park, regardless of residency, with those that live near the Dog Park & other individuals that spend time in the greater Brookdale Park. Obviously, dog owners that spend time with their dog(s) inside the Dog Park benefit greatly by allowing their dog(s) to socialize with other dogs and exercise. What is less obvious is that even people that do not own a dog benefit from the Dog Park.
To paraphrase the words of the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan, when a dog is balanced they are happier and better behaved. Spending time with other dogs enables them to better handle the riggers of walking on led and spending time confined to a home. Hence, dog owners’ neighbors are happier and so are people that come in contact with a dog on a walk. Another benefit is the joy people receive from seeing dogs at play within the Dog Park and even interacting with the dogs inside the Dog Park. Of particular note, are the teenagers that learn that dogs are nice and fun and will grow up not fearing them and, what is heartwarming, are the people with disabilities that come to the Dog Park to see and pet the dogs that would not otherwise have access to the joy and therapeutic benefits of dogs.
The 1.2 acres Dog Park, divided into two sections based on the dog’s size is nestled within the 121+ acres Brookdale Park, provides an essential role in the social, physical and mental development of dogs. Each area has dog agility equipment, water fountains (off during winter) for both humans and dogs and a ‘Timeout’ pen. The Dog Park facility also contains a shower area (off during winter).
