ARF has teamed up with The M.O.M.S. Rescue in New Jersey to help deliver a loud and strong message to the government and communities of Georgia about the appalling conditions for animals in Georgia shelters. On Aug 19 - 23, the "Georgia Puppy Caravan" will head to Atlanta. This Caravan of up to 200 cars and vans will heading down I-95 and will be stopping along the way to pick up large donations of dog food being collected now for the shelters in Georgia, which frequently have to euthanize due to lack of food. Supporting crowds of people will gather along the highway to cheer the Caravan on as it passes by, much of the time with the eye-catching, flashing lights of a police escort. Radio and TV stations of the major cities the Caravan is passing through will be out to capture the event and report it to citizens of their own towns, such as Richmond and Charlotte...cities that need to hear the Caravan's message as much as Atlanta does. A huge "welcome party" in Atlanta is planned, to which all the press in Georgia is invited. The governor of Georgia among others in influential positions in the state have been invited. David York is a successful business man in Atlanta who is supporting this cause both monetarily and politically -- he has friends in high places including the Governor as well as the CEO of Cox Media! RescueInk and National Geographic have already confirmed their participation.

Now that you have the background, here's what we need from you. One thing we are doing with this caravan is stopping at a Georgia kill-shelter we are working with (Chattooga, in Summerville, GA) and completely emptying it. Every single dog will be prepared in advance (vetted, health certificate) at our cost for this mass exodus.  The press will be on-hand for this symbolic event. We want to be able to say, "This is what it can be like...every shelter can be and should be empty...please spay and neuter your pets!"

To completely empty a Georgia shelter, we need commitments from every rescue we know to take at least one animal or more.  That's where you come in!  :-)

I've cc'd my friend, Karen LaSasso, on this email. She runs the M.O.M.S. Rescue and would love to hear from you if you can commit to taking in a dog from this particular event. You regularly take dogs in and it makes a difference in the lives of those individual dogs. In this case, not only will you be taking in a dog or two but your participation will help get a hugely impactful message out in an area that needs to hear it. This effort could make as much impact on Georgia as any other effort has ever had.

 

Please, please, please commit to taking an animal. And please reach out to every other rescue you know so that they can help as well. We need EVERYONE to get involved!
