the barn where i am boarding my two mares has decided to close the end of this month. i had hoped to place diamond in a therapuedic riding stable that is opening here in gastonia but they are looking for a seasoned lesson horse. shadow of course is my special needs horse - she needs a safe pasture with a buddy or two to live out the rest of her life. diamond is 12, has two years of ground work and is well saddle broke. she is very smart and needs a purpose in life. my dream was to make her a ranch horse but the knee replacement surgery that is ineventable forces me to find new homes for my girls.
is there anyone out there that will give shadow a forever home - she's happiest in a pasture with other horses and diamond a purpose?
they won't come empty handed - diamond will come with all her tack included since my riding days are over along with the almost 80 bales of hay i've already purchased and 2 -3 months of grain (they are getting like 1/2 scoop reliance x 2 but really could go grain free with good hay.
please help my girls if you can - and if you can't please pass on to someone that might.

'Cowboy Christmas' Sunday in Union
The U.S. Equine Rescue League will sponsor a Cowboy Christmas event
Sunday afternoon in Union County.
The event is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. at the Wild West Town at Southern
Breezes, 4126 Medlin Road, near Monroe. The event will include
horse-drawn wagon ridges, a chance to meet some of the rescue horses, a
petting zoo, and shopping for Western-style gifts. The Rescue League
will be selling hot chocolate, hot cider and baked goods.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the effort to rescue abused and
neglected horses in the North Carolina Piedmont.
If you can volunteer to help that day, contact Deb Carl, 704-531-4877,
or dbcarl@....
For information, check www.userlcpnc.org.
Carly is a big-boned, 16-hand thoroughbred. She is tattooed and, as far
as can be determined, has been raced. She loves her people, and has good
ground manners and a great work ethic. She stands quietly for the vet
and farrier, and loads and hauls wonderfully. Carly walks, trots, and
canters and has been started on basic cavelleti and dressage work. She
is quiet on the trails. She also neck reins and has been ridden both
English and Western, but is probably better suited as a dressage or
hunter-type prospect. Because her hooves are still recovering from
serious neglect, she can not be recommended for jumping at this time.
Carly has an excellent mouth and is very responsive and willing, but needs an
intermediate to experienced rider who is consistent and kind.

The American Horse Publications (AHP) is conducting an Equine Industry Survey to gauge participation trends in the U.S. equine industry. In addition, the survey seeks to gather information regarding the most important issues facing the industry.
C. Jill Stowe, PhD, is providing consulting services for data collection and analysis to the AHP. Stowe is an assistant professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Kentucky.
The survey is sponsored by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health and Pfizer Animal Health.
Those eligible to participate in the survey are men and women, 18 years of age and older, who currently own, manage, or lease at least one horse and live in the United States.
The survey closes January 15, 2010.
This study is anonymous; this means that no one, not even members of the research team, will be able to associate information you give with responses. When the survey results are tallied, only aggregated results will be presented.
"The AHP's member publications, Web sites, and newsletters reach nearly 3 million people involved in the horse industry in the United States and around the world," said Kimberly S. Brown, current AHP president. Brown proposed the survey, which was backed unanimously by the AHP board.
"We have been through a rough year, and there are many stories out there of unwanted horses and the decline of the horse industry," noted Brown. "But I think the real story is the wanted horses and their owners who are still strong despite the economic downturn.
"We think this is a great opportunity for us to use our collective resources and reach into the horse industry to get answers about how we are doing today, how we think we'll be doing in the near future, and what we are concerned about in our industry.
"Let's get 100,000 or more horse owners to participate in this survey," said Brown. "We have a wonderful chance to come together to gather information that can benefit us all, so spread the word!
"I especially want to thank Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health and Pfizer Animal Health for sponsoring this survey," said Brown. "Both of these companies--and the people behind the companies--are supporters of the horse industry because of their love of the horse, not just because it's their business. And I want to thank Dr. Stowe for being willing to contribute her time and expertise to ensure we have a legitimate survey with accurate statistical analysis."
Take the survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=bIUU08nvuI_2fLQ1Q0_2fdEyOQ_3d_3d). Feel free to pass this link around to every horse-owning group and individual.

A friend has asked me where they can have some leather tack repaired.
It is not real valuable, mostly leather halters that horses have broken,
or snaps that need replacing.
Does anyone have any ideas?

PLEASE, PLEASE FORWARD AND CROSSPOST. TWO SEVERELY EMACIATED PITT MIX PUPPIES CAME INTO GASTON COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL TODAY AND ARE GOING TO BE EUTHANIZED ON FRIDAY. THEY REALLY NEED A RESCUE TO KNOW THAT HUMANS AREN'T HORRIBLE BEFORE THEY DIE!!!
If you are with a rescue, please include the name of your rescue and 501c3 status in your inquiry.
THIS IS A HIGH KILL SHELTER - ANIMALS WILL BE PUT TO SLEEP ON THEIR PTS DATE AND NEED TO BE CLAIMED BY 5PM THE NIGHT BEFORE THEIR PTS DATE. IF YOU ARE AT ALL INTERESTED IN THIS ANIMAL, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE - THESE ANIMALS LIVES DEPEND ON QUICK ACTION.
Please read the following description of the shelter's policies on pulling non-adoptable animals and contact me if you are interested in this animal.
We are a group of volunteers that try to help the dogs/cats at Gaston County get into rescues and adoptable homes, but we don't work at the shelter and don't usually have a lot of information on the animals (unfortunately). Animal Control employees do not do a thorough behavioral evaluation of the animal or a vet
check and we can only guess as to what breed we think the animal might be - pract ically no animals come into this shelter with pedigrees, so there is no guarantee on animals being a specific or advertised breed. We just try to get their info out so people learn about them.
This animal was not slated for the adoption floor by the Animal Control Kennel person upon intake, so there is no adoption fee for the animal and the animal WILL BE EUTHANIZED on it's PTS (put to sleep) date. This shelter uses a GAS CHAMBER. There are many reasons why they are not slated for adoptions (underweight, overweight, shy or scared to be at the kennel (this is the typical reason and most animals are freaked out by being at the kennel), obvious health issue (dogs and cats are not vetted at all), too old, or the owner says the dog is aggressive or has some sort of issue (this is another very common reason because owners turning dogs into the shelter are afraid to admit
out loud that they just don't want the animal anymore and make up an excuse as to why they are turnin g the animal in).
Because this animal was not chosed for adoption, it has to be adopted out through the Animal League of Gaston County or a 501c3 rescue can pull the animal out. This animal can be pulled out of the shelter after 4PM the day before it's euthanize date (the day before the PTS date in the dog's name on petfinder). We require a vet reference for people not from a 501c3 rescue stating that all pets are up to date on vaccinations, are spayed or neutered and dogs are on heartworm preventative. Adopters are required to get the animal vaccinated and spayed or neutered at their expense within 2 weeks of adopting the animal or by the time the animal is six months old. We have no kennels to house the animals, so they are required to be picked up by their PTS date, else they will be killed.
You can visit the animal anytime before it's
PTS/release date at Gaston County Animal Control. The shelter is open daily from 11am - 5pm and the first Sat of th e month. There are directions posted on this site: http://! www.co.g aston.nc.us/animalcontrol/HoursContactDirections.HTM. Information on the Gaston County Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic can be found here: http://www.co.gaston.nc.us/animalcontrol/GastonClinic.htm.
Please act quickly to arrange adoption for this animal, they are given very little time before they are euthanized.
