Hello, I am new to the list, have been a dog person forever but a
year and a half ago my husband brought home a cat who has just been
wonderful; however he thinks he's a dog having been raised by them.
I now have a new kitten and I'm not sure what my adult cats behaviour
means. I hope to get advice on this list to understand what is
normal and when I should be concerned it's not going well.
When the kitten and my adult cat are together my adult cat grabs the
kitten in a hold and bites his neck until he squeaks. It's happened
three times now over a two week period (we've only put them together
these three times). When I hold the kitten around my adult cat, my
cat just visits and seems interested. I have the kitten sleeping
(he's a rescue and is recovering from an injury) in a large dog crate
and my adult cat lays on top of the crate for hours and visits him
thru the crate door regularly, their has been no growling, spitting,
hair up or posturing. His behaviour other than the grab and nip
seems really neutral. My adult cat has been around another adult cat
on occasion and just seems curious, follows the other cat around,
etc.
The kitten will be fully recovered in one week and I would love to
hear how to ensure they get along well.
