Following FYI from http://www.thepetfoodlist.com/
"The Pet Food List
[updated April 3, 12:50 am CST]
IMPORTANT (PLEASE READ BEFORE READING THE LIST)
The following companies have made statements that their pet food is not
affected by the Menu Foods recall.
The list is intended as a starting point for your own research - it is
a list we are compiling of pet foods deemed safe by the pet food
companies themselves. It is neither an endorsement of any pet foods
listed, nor is it a complete list of all pet foods not on the recall
list. And, even though a brand is listed, we cannot guarantee the food
is safe. The pet food companies are the only ones who can make that
statement.
EVEN IF A BRAND YOU FEED IS ON THIS LIST, VERIFY IT WITH THE PET FOOD
COMPANY. Links to their websites have been provided when possible.
For those with just the business name listed, we have obtained
information from their websites. We will be contacting them for further
information and will update the list appropriately as soon as possible.
Also, as more pet foods are being added to the list of recalled pet
foods, it's imperative that you continue to check the Menu Foods recall
list at http://menufoods.com/recall/ And if you find out your pet has
eaten any of the recalled food, call your vet immediately."

Not sure where this is going to end. Anyone know/heard yet who the US

Just wanted to share these 2 links/updates w/all re Tullibardine's '07
move and Chinook breeding schedule.
http://www.seppalakennels.com/seppala-kennels-new-location.htm
JJ Bragg put some of his fine photos of the new Rossburn spread up on
the Seppala Kennels site, so's you can enjoy the view & locate us! It
is a fine farm & location.
http://tullibardine.bizland.com/ProspectiveChinookLitters.chtml
And The Miracle Is...we were successful in breeding Ramsay (Toes x
Natasha) to Wos (BB x Molly) naturally, and so are daring to hope for
an end of April delivery from her! VERY exciting if she settles then!
Believe this mating represents least kinship for Ramsay w/in our kennel
and current I.S.A. Chinook genepool. Wish Ramsay & Wos luck w/us too
then please!
Time yet again to feed my red dogs of the north... :)

Susan

Cathleen;
Ugh :(
As Jack also reminds HSA's what emergent vet strongly suspected was the
cause of Lew's great aunt Triska's bloat. She asked Jack to come into
surgery to show him then 3 huge tumors on Trissie's stomach, one he
describes was as big around as his fist :(
Scariest part in hindsight was how Triska had COMPLETE bloodworkup PLUS
upper and lower body ultrasounds AND xrays only SIX months prior. And
NONE of the tumors were there then.
ND Triska (SW Muskeg x Glendons Tasha) was ND Nugget's maternal aunt.
And Nugget the dam of Lew, Frisco, Seanook, Castine, Natanis, etc.
Ugh :(
Love to you & Conrad, and never forget to pat the Lew. And please let
us all know how you're getting on.
Hugs,
Susan

If recent posts to the Chinook Healthnet list are anything to go by, it looks
very much as though the Chinook breed (or at least some subpopulations of it) is
well on the way to becoming one of those breeds, like the Bulldog, that will
have to rely wholly upon artificial reproductive technology for its preservation
from one canine generation to the next. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I seem to detect
in some of these discussions a kind of gee-whiz, aint-all-this-grand kind of
tone, as though every new step in this process were something which we all ought
to welcome with rejoicing. I wonder whether soon we shall be discussing the
arrival of new litters of cloned Chinooks, and then of gene-spliced Chinooks...
and from there I'm not sure what the next step might be.
I don't know to a certainty what Arthur Treadwell Walden would have thought
about all this, but I can make a good guess. And I suspect that anyone who took
the trouble to lug an ultrasound machine to the site of his grave would detect
the presence of a rapidly spinning corpse.
Not that it's likely to make much difference to AKC/FSS, UKC, or the rest of the
outer world, but I can assure everyone that I.S.A. won't be contributing to the
venerable breed founder's unease. I can certainly understand the occasional
necessity of c-section when a bitch gets into trouble with a whelping, strictly
as an emergency humane measure. But as for the rest of it, the International
Seppala Association won't be going there.

That very same incident happened to me a few years ago- except my Shepherd
was trying to kill my Chinook when they got stuck together and I got a
serious bite in the process of seperating them. I do the no collars except
when we are out in public. I've considered the break-away collars but my
dogs do so much roughhousing, I know they will end up all over the yard and
not on the dogs anyway. For people who need collars- the break-aways are
great. Thanks for the article!

Hi Jeffrey,
Thanks; I went back and got the issue with the Walden article in it too. There's
so little written about Kate Sleeper that it's certainly easy to believe she
really was selfless...she certainly was no publicity seeker!

Agreed; I've got to go back to WODC and read some more this winter...I just
stumbled onto an article there by accident titled "Who was E.J. Rich?", and
well, I've wondered that for a couple of years now! More on that when I get a
chance to digest the article.
Jack
Jack,
Thanks for that interesting contribution! Always
wanted to know a little bit more about Kate Sleeper. I
also went back and picked up the Arthur Walden article
in the Nov. 1994 issue. These glimpses of historic
personalities from that sort of local specialist point
of view are always interesting for the details they
add to one's understanding.

I've always found it curious that there is so little written about
Katherine (Kate) Sleeper Walden, particulaly since she was such an
influential character in the histories of the Tamworth, NH region.
Earlier this week, though, I stumbled onto a brief but informative bio
of her in the April 1995 newsletter of the Wonalancet Out Door Club,
and thought I'd share it here, FYI.

Hi again All;
Just a quick note to let you know that whilst Jack's working to setup gallery
software on our domain server finally; and I'm working to upload more of our own
Chinook photos to both our BizLand and to I.S.A.'s new domain server; I did also
put a few more (mostly 'dubbie digi' ;) snaps of our beauties onto our website,
in the meantime.
So here's their new gallery index pages;
Bitches Gallery http://tullibardine.bizland.com/ChinookBitches1.chtml
Studs Gallery http://tullibardine.bizland.com/ChinookStuds1.chtml
I think there's only a few of the girls who have NO photo linked still. But
I've found a few recent snaps of them finally to upload tomorrow. And a couple
of the girls still have their pup photos linked (pending upload of them all
grow'd up :) Same for some of the '05 Howler pups too- whoever I havn't '06
snaps of, is still linked to their 4 mo. photos from last Fall.
Enjoy!

Hey there BJ!
What was BAD was the toothache! Everythin' after that was small stuff by
comparison. I am pretty much back to my old self now. The great new is, so is my
FRIEN' Lizzawort! She has finally got over her broodiness about her puppies, and
this mornin' she joined me in a real Chinook-style fool-around in the yard. It
was just like old times before she had puppies. That is the BEST 'cuz I was
afraid that somehow I had lost my one big frien' to the puppy-trip. To be fair,
I gotta say that Tonya has been real nice to me lately, more friendly and
indulgent than ever before, but still, her bein' the Queen Bitch an' all, I can
only go so far.
I wish I was there to see you get knocked off the dock! But I guess it was
probly pretty scary for you. I haven't ever been swimming. There are no ponds or
anything on our place here an' I spose the water is pretty cold all the time
anyway. There's always Lake Laberge which is pretty close -- but it's so BIG
it's scary.
I gotta go to the CSD home page and find your pickers now! An' then I gotta work
on Boss to take ME bikejoring, maybe with my frien' Lizzy. I can't let you get
ahead of me like that!

Dear Sis,
I'm sorry to hear about your tooth and head. It sounds like you're being
pretty brave about the whole thing. I can tell you that I can certainly be a
wienie at times and probably wouldn't be nearly as brave as you are, but don't
tell anyone.
I've been having fun this summer. We have a wading pool in the yard with
octopus and other creatures and I dig trying to get them, never seems to work
though. I get to go to the lake and I can swim whenever I want to. I really
love swimming and when it's really hot just plunk myself down in the water.
Kenzie knocked me off the dock a couple of times. I was really scared because
I was completely under water. I tried to get back up, but had to swim to shore
instead. Luckily, someone was always watching, so they could help me. I keep
hearing people say I'll be diving off by next summer, but I don't know what
that means.
I know what you mean about strange people. I always keep my distance for
awhile. I've attached a pic of me on the porch at the lake with lots of people
around (Susan and Jack - like how I cross my paws like my daddy Power??). I
was pretty brave that day and everyone was really nice to me.
I've also attached a pic of Kenz and I bikejoring. I think I look pretty good
in harness!
Be brave sis, and keep sending those updates!!
Love and doggie kisses,
BJ
