There were few years my vet would not even give the lepto vaccine. It was not a
serious problem in the area for one thing but more importantly the vaccine was
nasty nasty. They have changed it recently (last couple years) and she is now
giving them but I believe it's every 3 years only.
On the side about pain after vaccines...
When I was a kid we went to a clinic with 3 vets. There was one vet out of the
3 that did something different than the others. Everytime he gave the rabies
vaccine (it was yearly back then) my little dog would whimper or even yelp. The
next day or 2 she would be hurting all over to the point she did not want to be
touched. Now some would say it was the vaccine but I will tell you sincerely,
we did not have that reaction from the other 2 vets.

a three year rabies, and all the combo shots all at the same time ( I go to a
different vet now ! !) and that evening my dog couldn't get up off the floor, he
looked at me as much as to say " I don't feel good mom" and I'll never forget
it. He was better in 24 hours but I don't want to do that again. I think at
this new vet we'll ask for a titer test for the other things - we won't have to
get a rabies for three years .
