This group is for all people interested in diabetic dogs, whether they own a diabetic dog, previously owned one or are worried that their pet might be striken with this terrible disease. I'm creating this group because of Ruby, my beloved diabetic dog, who died May 3, 2004, but who immeasurably enriched my life while I had her. Ruby died at age 7 from liver troubles which may or may not have been related to her diabetes. She was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago after an attack of pancreatis left her unable to produce insulin. Ruby bravely accepted her insulin shots two times a day and learned to accept her diabetic dog diet, leading a very normal life in other respects for two years, and I can think of no better tribute to her brave spirit than to share her story with other pet owners. I am a type 2 diabetic myself, diabetes runs in my family, but nothing has taught me more about diabetes than Ruby and her brave life with the disease.
