When trying to modify our dogs' behavior, it is important to remember to start
at the most basic part of the relationship, trust. Cesar says that the most
important things we can do for our dogs is exercise, discipline, and then
affection in that order.
So, keeping that in mind, when you or your husband walks the dog, have your son
join the walk. Start out at a distance that the dog is comfortable with, and
then as the dog gets into "the zone" move a little closer until your son can
walk next to the dog. When that happens the dog is saying that he is trusting
your son to walk next to him. Its taken the dog 8 months to get this way, so
don't expect instant transformation. Your son might also take over the feeding
of the dog, making sure that the dog does not get its food until it sits quietly
and makes eye contact with your son.
Are you sure that you are working with fear of men, and not resource guarding.
Food and toys are not the only resources that a dog will guard.
