As I noted in a separate e-mail this evening, somewhere around 50% is
usually considered to be the average conception rate for frozen semen,
but to be honest, there are so many variables that can affect the
outcome that it really is of little use to look at an average. Stallion
variability is the first item to look at; closely followed by the
abilities of the inseminators. We have stallions who routinely produce
an 80-90% seasonal conception rate when we are using their semen, but it
would be most misleading to quote that as as a likely outcome applicable
to all stallions! On the other hand, if we are dealing with frozen semen
that lacks fertility, there is really nothing we can do to improve on
the 0% rate we'll have...
Ask questions about the stallion and inseminators of choice, not the
whole field - you'll do better and be more satisfied in the long run.
