SCID is a lethal disease of Arabian foals inherited as an autosomal
recessive. Lacking a competent immune system, SCID foals succumb before five
months of age to massive infection, primarily of the respiratory tract. An
affected foal provides evidence of carrier status of both parents.
Dear AFAHA Member:
Arabian Horses originally imported into North America were characteristic of the
desert horse -- prized for their hardiness, substance, versatility, stamina,
soundness, athletic ability and intelligence, without sacrifice of beauty and
presence. The goal of the American Foundation Arabian Horse Association is to
preserve and promote these qualities valued by the early breeders of Arabian
horses in America and to ensure that horses with those same attributes will be
available for future generations.
Postings on the AFAHA grouplist for stallions at stud and Arabian horses for
sale are permitted. However, these postings are limited to Arabian horses which
qualify as EAF, AF or AFB. If AFB, provide the percentage of American
Foundation blood in the horse's pedigree. Designations of EAF, AF or AFB
(whichever is applicable) for the horses for sale or stallions at stud must be
provided with posting. If you have questions about the designations, please
contact Carrie, honeycrek2@....
Board members of AFAHA are:

Claudia Provin, provincmk@...
Dianne Chapek, dmchapek@...

AFAHA provides Certificates of Designation for EAF, AF, AFB and AFR Arabian
horses. For more information, contact Carrie honeycrek2@....

WOW, it has been one heck of a couple weeks for this family! I wont bore anybody with the details but short version is; Hubby was home for a week (we only get to see him every 2 to 3 months, he's a specialty iron worker and is on the road all the time), Thanksgiving was upon us, living-room was being remodeled (goodbye to the old paneling!), my Great Aunt passed away and I had to go to TN for the memorial for a weekend, having some "teenager issues", and between all that I still had to work my day job, take care of the kids, and take care of the ranch! So, enough about me and on with the updates that I have been unable to get sent out the past couple weeks. ;-)
http://www.netposse.com/stolenmissing/Snowman_Nightlatch_StolenTNoct09.html Both Snowman and Nightlatch are Percheron/Thoroughbred cross Geldings and are 6 years old, 16.1 hands and 1,200 lbs. Also stolen: 16.3 fleabitten grey gelding perch/tb cross and a gaited App mare 15 H marshmallow rolled in coco color.

BRADYVILLE, Tenn.- The Humane Society of the United States and the Cannon County Sheriff's Department rescued dozens of animals from a Bradyville farm Tuesday afternoon because of alleged animal cruelty.
The Humane Society seized 84 horses from the 100-acre property on Hollow Springs Road, located about 30 miles southeast of Murfreesboro.
Cannon County Sheriff Billy Nichols said he's, "Never seen a case this large, this bad."
The Tennessee Walking Horses, Spotted Saddle Horses, and quarter horses all showed signs of neglect and poor health.
Some were extremely emaciated, suffering from various medical conditions or could no longer walk.
Authorities say several dead horses were found at the scene.
Eight dogs, two goats and two chickens, all in poor condition, were also seized.
The Humane Society responds to animal cruelty cases all over the country and says this is one of the worst cases it has seen.
"We respond to large scale animal suffering," said Scottlund Haisely with the Humane Society. "On a scale of 1 to 10... 10 being the worst horse cruelty situation we've seen, I put this as an 8. This is not a good scene. This is grim."
Concerned citizens alerted the sheriff's department to the alleged abuse.
The sheriff's department then brought in the Humane Society to be the lead animal welfare organization in the case.
All of the horses are being moved to temporary shelters.
At least 6 trailers were sent to the property to transport the horses to stables at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville.
As they reach the fairgrounds, the horses are being checked by veterinarians and given appropriate medical care.
Police arrested the two owners of the animals, Charles E. Howland and his son, Clint Howland, the same day the animals were seized.
Both men face numerous charges of animal cruelty.
They have each made their $1,500 bond and have surrendered the horses to authorities.
The Humane Society says people who want to donate feed and hay to the horses can call "Rowdy" at 240-654-7338.
Rescuers could be treating the animals at the fairgrounds for several weeks.
Then they will be sent to local rescue groups.
The Humane Society says it will soon put a link on its website for anyone wanting to adopt the horses.
Please pass this to your associations, list groups, council members, friends and ask them to do the same. Don't forget about public sites like craigslist, livedeal, twitter etc but remember to to link the info to NetPosse.com so people can print the flyer and read the updates.

Yes, I remember the rearing picture, but the one that sent shivvers down my
spine was that trotting picture. I have carried that image in my itty bitty
brain for years. I want to say that I saw that picture in a magazine called
Crabbet Influence, back in the mid-80s.
