Kaelyn
Kaelyn is a very active workin' girl and very much a free spirit.
She's always on the move and definitely needs a family that can keep
up with her. She is more of the working lines of the Australian
Shepherd. She needs to be kept occupied or she will find things to do
to keep herself occupied. She is also very creative in finding work
for herself, which may not be what you have in mind for her to be
doing. She is very interested in training and loves to show off her
tricks. She also does well in learning new ones. This will help with
her energy as it gives her an outlet to use it in a positive way.

She's also very affectionate and loves to play. She's always happy
and is always smiling. She does need to be crated when left alone as
she is a free thinker and loves to find new things to do to keep
herself occupied. She will get into everything as she is very curious
to see exactly what everything is and how she can play with it. She
also had not had a lot of guidance in her life before she came into
rescue. She truly felt that she was free to do how she wished and did
not have to listen to anybody. She would bark back at us when we
corrected her and needed a very firm (not harsh) and consistent home
to help show her more appropriate ways to behave. We had to implement
a "zero tolerance" policy. She would get up onto the counter so that
she could see what you are doing and would attempt to take food off
the counter, even with you standing there.

She has made so much progress with allowing us to correct her and is
getting better at knowing what is and is not acceptable behavior. She
is learning that we don't jump up on people when greeting them and
that we don't need to get into the fridge every time it gets opened.
She shows more improvement every day. She is deaf and responds well
to signals.

You can see her pictures at this site:

we have been keeping very busy expanding the rescue. We just finally
got approved for our non profit status which we've been working on
for a very long time since we were doing this ourselves without an
attorney to save costs.

This is good news for us and can help us expand this more. We have
functioned as a non profit since 100% of the money goes into the
animals and none of us earn any income from this.

We also have been working on a newsletter and if any of you wish to
subscribe to the newsletter which will be send by email, let me
know! We will be using emails instead of regular mail to save money
in many different ways, not having to purchase paper and so forth,
and the cost of printing them up. Not to mention we'd be saving
trees. Plus this will make it easier for our supporters to forward
them on to their friends and family, expanding our exposure and our
support base. We're very excited about this!

if you have adopted a pet from us, we will have a section under
successful adoption and we'd LOVE to feature your story of your pet
you adopted from us along with photos!

Again, thanks for the support!

I barely use this yahoo group much due to my busy schedule but I like
to try to check in once in a while and post some new things.

Our 501c3 is still pending but hopefully we should finally get it in
few months. This will help the rescue very much.

We have some adoptable dogs and cats in our rescue. They can be seen
on Petfinder. We have five adoptable adorable kittens as well.

Dogs available for adoptions are:
Lexie, a beautiful deaf american pit bull terrier (possible american
bulldog mix) that's 1 and half years old. She cannot be in homes
with VERY small dogs, caged animals, birds, or cats. But gets along
great with med to big dogs.

Nora, an amstaff, four years old, housebroken, crate trained, is
great with people, but no small animals either and she's best in a
home where she's the only pet. She's okay with some dogs, but if a
dog snap at her, it will not be a good thing. So ideally, the home
for her would be a home where she's the only pet.

Phoenix, a deaf catahoula (breed that's common in the south after all
he did come all the way up here from GA to keep him from being put to
sleep) mxi. He's one year old. Very playful.

We have five adult cats waiting for their forever homes.. Oreo,
Milky Way, and Snickers.. all three are brothers and are all
domestic short haired cats, black and white colored like cows.
They're all neutered, and up to date with their shots. They are a
bit shy with new people but after a day or two of becoming
comfortable with you are very affectionate.

Meow is a very beautiful domestic med/long haired cat, black and
white, four years old. Just gorgeous! She was surrendered by her
owners because the couple are dying of cancer. She has her front
claws declawed.

Oliver is a sweet timid cat toward other cats, a grey (with some
tabby coloring) doemstic med/long haired cat. Front claws declawed.

And then there are 5 kittens available for adoption.. they're all
female, domestic short haired cats (one is med haired), and spayed.

So please feel free to spread the word to anyone you know that may be
interested in adding a precious furbaby to their family.

Again, thank you all for your support!

Mystic, a deaf White Deaf German Shep/ staffordshire bull terrier
mix, one years old, spayed, up to date on shots. She is available
for adoption again since the home she was adopted at, her and her
other dog did not get along. She was rescued just before she was
scheduled to be put to sleep.
She was dumped at shelter, after having had the worse life you can
imagine. She was totally emaciated, scared, confused, but she has
continued to retain her loving nature and loves everyone. She's a
loving great dog who loves to be with you, to snuggle with you, and
to play with you. She gets along with dogs and loves people and
kids. She has a very HIGH level of energy and would be wonderful for
an active household, and if you have a very active playful dog, this
is a wonderful playmate to adopt. She will wear out her playmate.
She loves to jump up for attention, and licks a lot. She's
housebroken and is crate trained although she prefers to be with you
and snuggle with you if you'd let her. She truly thinks she's a
lapdog and is smaller than what she really is. She gets so excited
to see you when you get home, her whole body wiggles for 10 mins
begging to be petted, to be loved on. The most important thing about
her is that she's very smart, very headstrong. If she's in a home
with other dogs, she will make sure she's the top dog of the dog
pack. She likes to be the boss and will show other dogs that she's
the boss. She needs to be adopted by someone who is very strong and
understand how dog packs work, and can work with her. Wont you be
that special someone she can be with? Her adoption fee is $150, and
that include her being spayed, up to date with all her shots. She's
heartworm negative too.
--------------------------------------------------------
Mellie is an 8 years old Border collie mix who needs a home. Mellie
was originally thought to be deaf, but turns out she is not deaf.
She can hear. She is spayed, up to date on shots. She is extremely
sweet and loves people. She loves to kiss you and give you affection
as well as get some attention and love back. She may be 8 years old
but acts VERY young. She's extremely playful and loves to play with
you but can play by herself. Her favorite game is tug of war rope.
And if you dont play with her, that's fine, she can play with it by
herself.

Mellie is either scared or uncomfortable of other dogs. She is best
being the only dog. As a border collie, she's generally aloof with
them. She is fine with cats and has no problems with cats.

She has been waiting for a wonderful forever home who will love her
and give her a forever home.

her adoption fee is $75.

Interested? Contact me for adoption application and to see pictures.

We have a Beagle, who is around a year old, is very sweet, house
broken, he gets along with other dogs, kids, and cats. She loves
kids. he is very loving and loves to be petted. He can play with
himself with toys. he prefers to be indoor dog. He's around 15
inches tall, and weights around 20-25 lbs. Adoption fee will be $150
to include all shots and neutering. Pictures available.

Buster, a deaf American Staffordshire bull terrier, is around a year
old, very friendly, he loves to play with other dogs. He is crated
trained, housebroken. He has all his shots, is neutered. Heartworm
negative.

About Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary

Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary was founded by Amber Kay late 2004. Fur
Angels is a rescue without a physical shelter. The rescue does not
believe in putting animals in a shelter type of environment (left in
crates with only few hours of freedom and exercise a day) like most
shelters out there. The rescue uses foster home, homes of every day
people like you, in order to provide the animals rescued the best
kind of environment to grow in and develop social skills. This also
enables the foster home to communicate with the rescue any problems
that may not have been known until then. Dogs, who are rescued and
put in foster homes, are allowed to learn the house rules, to be
housebroken, and to learn appropriate behavior. This ensure that
when they are finally adopted into forever homes, the placement would
have a higher success rates, and less chances of being returned back
to the rescue. This also ensures us to make sure we make good match
between animals adopted into good homes. For example, if we rescue a
dog, and found out the dog is not good with children, we will make
sure homes that the dog would be adopted out to, have no children.
We always need more foster homes. There are always dogs in need.
What Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary does is pull (save) animals from
kill shelters just before they are scheduled to be put to sleep. We
work with mostly deaf animals because they are usually first to be
killed. Many shelters would feel that they are not adoptable and
that no one would want a deaf animal. They also feel they cannot be
trained. Fur Angels will save those deaf animals and foster them,
while working on finding them a forever homes to be adopted into.
Many heartless people who once had those pets, would dump them at
shelters, not willing to work with their deafness.
Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary is a no kill rescue. This means we don't
put down any of our animals we rescue. Only reasons we would ever
put down an animal is if they are too sick, or they are aggressive.
We do not adopt out animals that have been proven to be aggressive.
Sometimes we'd rescue animals in need of surgery, and we'd raise
funds to get medical care for those animals. Sometimes they'd be in
foster homes until they have recovered. Once in a while, an adoptive
home may be approved with the knowledge of the animals' medical
need.
We do also work with some animals who are not deaf.
You will have seen many posts Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary have sent,
searching for homes for animals in need.
However, the sad thing is, our resources are very small. We can only
save a few animals at a time. We work on those animals we have right
now, to find homes, before we can go and save more animals.
Every animal we get, always see a vet and make sure they have all of
their shots and that they are spayed/neutered (fixed). We are
fighting the overpopulation problem of pets. This is one of the main
reasons why there are so many homeless animals because of
overpopulation and not enough homes. Every month, thousand of
animals are killed just because there's no homes available.
We charge an adoption fee. This makes sure that people who are
interested, are really interested, and are capable of taking good
care of their pets. The adoption fee is usually $150. This is a
very good deal. Most of the time, people would buy their pets from
pet stores or private breeders, or backyard breeders for few hundred
dollars. THEN you still have to take the pet to the vet to pay for
all the shots the pet needs. That is between $50 to $100 more. THEN
you have to pay for the pet to be spayed/neutered. Most vet charges
you for $150 or more, usually around $200 or more. So buying a pet
would cost you approximately $300 or more. Fur Angels Animal
Sanctuary save costs by having all pets fixed, and have all shots,
and all this is only for $150.00. So you are saving a pet's life by
adopting a pet from Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary and saving money as
well. This also allows us to go out and save more animals before
they are killed.
Every interested adopter will be expected to fill out an application
for adoption. This does not mean you are stuck and have to adopt the
pet even if you change your mind. This is the beginning of the
process for adoption. This allows us to screen homes, and learn more
about each possible adoptive home, and make sure that we can make a
good match. We also require vet information so we can contact your
vet to make sure there is no history of animal abuse or cruelty by
you or your family. We make sure our animals that are adopted, go
into great homes where they will be loved, fed, taken care of, and
never be abused.
Even if you would like to help but is unable to adopt a pet today,
please share information about every pet in need with your friends
and family. You may never know that one of them would be interested
and be a good match for one of our pets.
We always need donation of food, toys, leash, collars, and crates.
We always need more foster homes.
Wont you share your life with a lucky pet waiting for a good home
with you? Adopt a pet today.

She's not deaf (we discovered that.. maybe losing some hearing
slightly?).
She's very playful for an 8 years old dog. She is very sweet. Loves
to play with you. She is best being the only dog since she's not
comfortable with other dogs. She LOVES attention and loves to shower
you with affection every chance she gets. She's good with kids and
people.

Only bad habits she has is counter surfing but that's due to her
history of neglect. Foster home is trying to fatten her up by feeding
her more. She's very smart, and loving and is hoping to find a great
home!

Adoption fee is $75. She is spayed and up to date on her shots.

Piglet, a 3-year-old deaf pit bull, came into the world in
Janesville,
Wisconsin in December, 2001. When she was less than 8 weeks old, her
breeders
tossed her out with the trash and left her to die in the cold
Wisconsin winter,
probably because they discovered her deafness. Fortunately, she was
picked up
by the Rock County Humane Society and given a second chance.

Owner/trainer Tracy Doyle removed her from the shelter to foster her
for
"just a few weeks" until transport could be arranged to a pit bull
rescue. But
several transports fell through and Doyle, noting her superior
temperament and
intelligence, decided to keep her.

Piglet began obedience training at 6 months of age. Being deaf has
not
slowed her progress. She responds well to hand signals, learns new
commands
quickly and loves to work. She also loves everyone she meets -
adults, children,
the elderly - and gets along fine with other dogs, cats and small
animals. She
has completed advanced obedience training, is started in agility and
flyball
and has taken private lessons in trick training. She earned
her "Canine Good
Citizen" award from the American Kennel Club in the spring of 2004,
and Doyle
plans to have her tested for certification as a Therapy Dog with
Therapy
Dogs International, so she can visit and cheer patients in hospitals
and nursing
homes.

Piglet's image first appeared in print in a brochure for the Deaf
Dogs
Education Action Fund when she was a puppy. She has been a
demonstration dog for
presentations that Doyle has done for various community service
organizations
about the "Pit Bull Problem." She also has helped many dogs receive
their
Canine Good Citizenship awards by acting as a neutral dog in testing
at the
training club Doyle belongs to, the Northern Illinois Dog Club,
based in Crystal
Lake, Illinois.

Doyle has owned dogs most of her life and has been an obedience
instructor
at Northern Illinois Dog Club. She plans to offer private training
for pet
dogs and to make a video on dog training geared specifically toward
deaf dog
owners.

"Deaf dogs aren't any different from any other dog, and they're no
more
difficult to work with," says Doyle. "The only thing that's broken
is their ears,
not what's between them." Doyle hopes that her success in the
film "Dog
Jack" will be an inspiration to deaf dog owners everywhere.
