You may have read on other discussion lists that this is a "pro NAIS" discussion list. It is not a "pro NAIS" nor "no NAIS" list. It is a list to discuss facts, regardless of whether they might seem "pro" or "con" statements about the National Animal Identification System. We have seen so much misinformation about NAIS, and this is an effort to sort through that and discuss facts.

We invite constructive discussion and specifically want to offer accurate information about the National Animal Identification System. This list is working proactively to provide feedback to the Goat Working Group of the NAIS, so that the recommendations for the goat portion of NAIS can reflect what might work best for goat owners. We want to have a voice in what may be developed and applied to goats, and the Goat Working Group has that opportunity.

The goal of this group is to encourage positive participation in providing recommendations on the methods/processes of goat ID that would be put into place if or when the proposed NAIS or other national plan is put into place. If you do not want to constructively work on developing recommendations for what could be considered in establishing identification methods and related issues for goats in the NAIS plan, then there are other discussion lists that would better meet your interests.

Many list members have stated that they are participating on this list because they don't want constant inundatation with messages that merely repeatedly state emotional opposition to the NAIS without trying to coherently discuss facts of the issues. Please remember that when posting your messages. Civil discussion is always encouraged. We respect the rights of others to have differing opinions and healthy debate is good, but we encourage you to develop your opinions based on facts.
