Zodiak and my Diesel sound a lot alike. Diesel is 16.2, I am only 5 foot 3. Needless to say I too have to use a mounting block, and he never holds still either. I have to have someone hold him to get him to hold still long enough. He isn't hyper, is a therapy horse in fact, but he can be trying when you want on his back. LOL this is the same horse who moans when you pet him or ride him.  Yup I said moan lol.

Diesel has plenty of room to run. As an ex racer he spent too much time in his stall, so when I got him things have changed for the better. He now has access to a very roomy stall, but the door is left open at all times, and he has full run of the paddock. I won't enclose him unless it is an emergency. He needs a break. He has grazed for the first time as well.  That went over awesomely lol. I thought it might be stocking up too,  but he has full run of the paddock. He may need another run though. Ummm oif what he does is a run lol ( Standardbreds ya know)

Thanks for the reply. I think our guys were a lot alike.

I had a rescue horse that i named Zodiak for quite a while, that I have since given to a 12 year old 4h student. If Zodiak was not let out of his stall his back legs would swell up.  I was freaked the first time it happened.  It was raining and he was stuck in his stall. LOL I went out and bought wraps and the thermoflex, hosed his legs down with cold water.  I had him all wrapped up when one of the 40 year horse knowledgabale boarders showed up and asked what was wrong. Seeing the bandages on Zodiaks back legs.  I told her her he was swollen on the back legs and that i had hosed them with cold water, applied thermoflex and wrapped them up,  She started laughing at and told me to unwrap his legs and walk him for about an hour.   Damned if the swelling didn't go down........LOL so from then on Zodiak was let out to pasture rain or shine everyday.  Zodiak was given to me by a horse rescue, he needed alot of work,he had trust issues.  he was not by far mean, just apprehensive.  I had him a year before I even tried to ride him.  He was wonderful,  my only problem was he was 16.3 hh and I needed a mounting block to get on him.  It's hard to pull my big butt up there without assistance.  HE WOULD NOT STAND STILL.  LOL he would back up, walk forward, side step, and here i was looking like a fool chasing him with a mounting block.  One day a boarder brought her 12 year old neice out to the ranch and she just fell in love with Zodiak.   I watched her swing up on his back with the ease and grace of a young, unafraid 12 year old body.  She rode him around, walk, trot, lope,  like  a pro.  She came out EVERYDAY for 6 months and basically took him over...LOL which was fine with me because I couldn't get on him.   She started begging me to allow her to show in in 4h shows and then for her 13th birthday I Gave her Zodiak.   I couldn't have asked for anything better.  She sends me pictures of him, with ribbons and bows all through his mane and tail.........it's amazing.    OK OK this was supposed to be a "stocked up" story.  Here i go rambling again.  I miss Zodiak so much,  but i know he is being loved.  LoL I think she takes better care of him then i did!!!...OK I am gonna go now.  everyone have a great week!  Oh by the way,  Zodiak was a Morgan/tb  bay with a star , Hence the Zodiak

This event is historical!

It is the obligation of every Texas activist to attend this!!

Due to the recomendation of our Senator, who opposes this bill, In Solidarity with Animals is coordinating with Austin's Action for Animals to organize a  Statewide Rally  at the Austin Capitol Building on May 9, 11:00 am, This rally is scheduled to oppose Horseslaughter Bill 1324, a bill that would allow  two Texas slaughter plants to remain open and sell horsemeat to foreign markets for human consumption.  We are looking to coordinate caravaning from every city in Texas.

This is our chance to close the last two remaining horse slaughterhouses in the United States and permanently shut down the horseslaughter business in this country.

If this bill is not defeated, 1,000+ horses will continue to be slaughtered every day.

This is more important than a day of work or classes. These horses lives depend on us!
Please contact us for more info or to coordinate our efforts.

Hi Everyone,
We are in desperate need of some help. We have a horse in Ky. that we have to move by Wed. We just found out today at 2 p.m. He has to come from there to S.E. Ohio. We're right on the Ohio - W. V. border.
Is there anyone who can help move him? Or is there anyone that can help with a place for him till we can get arraignments to transport him? We would rather move him straight here but we have to do it the best we can. If anyone can help at all we would appreciate it. Even if we could get legs of the trip covered and meet up with others, that  would  help. We could pick up the last leg of the trip. Please......help us get the guy home.
Remember....We have to have him moved by Wed. or he goes to the auction. I know begging is unbecoming but to save our boy I'll beg!!!
                                        Thanks in advance.

Posted by Debra Reid on April 28, 2003 at 12:49:46:I am located in South
Louisiana, and am the secertary for {HARP} Hooved Animal Rescue & Placement.
A non-profit org.
I am in dire need of help placing over 80 pot bellies that basically ran
amuck!!
We have come across a woman who has over 80 pot bellied pigs who is in DIRE
need of finding a place for them to go. Some are friendly some have never
been handled, most sows are bred. Ages range from newborn to 6-10 years.
These are the small pot bellies not the larger end of the spectrum. {80- 100
lbs)
Obivously the pigs were not getting enough feed and thus has turned on each
other { mainly sows/boars eating young} to survive. Sanitary conditions were
nill to none.
We do not have the facilities for this number of pigs. We were going to try
to ship the most of them to auction but the auction barns here do not take
potbellies. Our only other ""LAST resort"" option would be euthanisa for the
majority of thses animals.
We have managed to get food, water and to seprate the sows from the boars,
but these animals have to be moved to a new location as soon as possible.
I am at my wits end and need help!!! Please forward this to other people, who
may know of other places that we can get help from. Pics are not yet listed
on our webpage of the pigs.

Debra Reid secretary

That sounds to me like wind galls and I dont think that it is a very serious
thing. sometimes horses that stand for a period in a stall will develop it
.. Kind of like stocking up.. I think itis a minor thing but if you are
truly concerned I would call my vet and just have him come and take a look
at it to ease your mind.. and I may very well be wrong but your description
sounds like it is as such.

Evening all. I am not sure if that topic made sense, but if you are reading this, then it at least caught your eye lol

Most know I adopted a Standardbred gelding who had previously been raced for years. Well something odd has come up.

About 30 days ago or so, Diesel had a watery feeling swelling on the inside of his right hock. No heat, no limping. Not even any apparent stiffness in the joint. Using cold water, and liniment, it went away. Well dog gone it if it isn't back. My ferrier took a look and said it doesn't seem to be anything of any consequence, maybe it isn't and I am being an over protective mom. the swelling has returned, with the same odd lack of any symptoms. No drainage either, not an abscess.

Does anyone have any ideas on what in the world is going on?

Dianne

ps, he never stands in dirty stalls, or wetness, but also doesn't get a lot of impact from the soil, especially now.  Also it isn't foundering either, yeah I know foundering occurs in hooves, but it can sometimes cause hock swellings.  He is in perfect health, except for this re-occurring oddity.

Thanks for posting this, but these horses were being
held at the originating facility trying to place them
while they were still there.
These horses are no longer available through mustang-
spirit. They were retired, mostly companion type
horses in need of a home.

I ran across this horse classifieds, but lol there were just too many breeds and locations to check out each and every one. so I am sending it to you all, so that maybe you can find the breed or state you are interested in. Good luck. I looked at the mustang page. There is a mare there who was rescued and they are now asking $500 for her. She's in TX and only 6 yrs old, but flighty.

personally this old lady needs a retirement or at least a relaxing home, no hard work, even though it doesn't say she is unsound, she has just earned an easy home.. Just my opinion though, for what it's worth.

Hi. Normally I am posting ads about horses needing rescued or adopted etc. This time though my post is more personal.

I am hoping to find a Newfie ( Newfoundland) or Great Pyreneese dog for us.  Dog must accept cats and children. Also would prefer the dog was free or rescued. He/She should be no less than 5 months old.

I am located in Logan Lake, British Columbia and cannot transport over border...at this time anyways.

Anyways, can you keep your eyes open for a dog for us please. Thanks. I know it's a tall order lol. I'm patient though

This horse sounds like a perfect candidate for a live John Lyons symposium. He apparently doesn't mind being trimmed, shod, ridden, handled. Just needs to have his vices against other horses eliminated.

Texas is holding a candle light vigil in Dallas, Houston, Ft.Worth, and Austin on Saturday, May 10, 2003 to protest HB 1324, which would allow Texas slaughterhouses to keep on slaughtering horses even if the federal lawsuit that Dallas and Tarrant county currently have pending against them in federal court.
We really need people to show up at these vigils.  Planning time for them is short, but this bill has sped through Calendar and Committees so fast, and now it's going to the Senate.  It didn't die in either or the two other places.  :-(
So, please join the announcement-only e-mail list on yahoogroups, vigilnews@yahoogroups.com so that we can let you know what's happening as the plans are confirmed.  If you have an organized rescue in Texas, please lend your support.  The author of this horrible bill is Rep. Betty Brown and she sends out a list of important organizations on all of her correspondence about it showing how powerful her supporters are.  We need to be able to list as many organizations as possible.
I hope everyone will attend a vigil near you, especially if you live in Texas.
