when i went to meerkat's a few weeks ago to pick up snowball, her two
kitties were happily checking us out. we discussed all sorts of pets,
and conversation came around to the cats.

i commented to our hosts that bast, our cat, appears to prefer the 10
cent puffball that the vet gave him when he was in for his operation.
$2 mice with rabbit fur, $5 catnip stuffed toys, none compare to the
little puffball that he bats around with his paw and throws around with
his mouth.

meerkat mentioned that her kitties like *pipecleaners*! she showed us a
few that the critters had destroyed. obviously, they like them a lot!

today, we went for a walk to the craft store and picked up a small bag
of pipe cleaners (thicker ones) and a bag full of puffballs (bast has
destroyed the two he had). once we got home, we handed him two
puffballs and a pipecleaner.

well he went absolutely *insane* with the pipecleaner! biting, chewing,
chasing, you name it. it was *almost* as bad as the day my mom gave him
the catnip stuffed pillow and blanket. he was a crazy cat!

so if you need cheap toys for a cat, check out pipecleaners and
puffballs. total cost of the two, under $5.00. entertainment from
watching kitty bounce around in circles chasing one? priceless. :D

i managed to get a few pics of snowball last nite. the little stinker
doesn't sit still at all, and of the six pics i took, only two turned
out. bast keeps trying to pat him and doesn't seem to mind getting
picked at all. snowball just ignores him. :)

Good evening everyone, my name is Mari and I will be 3 months old the
day of the show so I can enter the junior albino contest, woohoo!
Anyway.....

1.Mom says it is VERY IMPORTANT to let the committee know if you will
be attending the banquet dinner, Ft. Collins trip(leaving hotel at
2:00 pm) and F & T Rescue luncheon and tour(leaving 9:00 am). We need
to get numbers into the hotel for the amount of dinner to be served.
(sorry pog buddies mom says no poggies can eat at the dinner table)
hmpft! The humans also need to know how many vehicles to use for
transport to the other functions.

Leeloo: there better be lots of special snacks then if I can't attend
dinner. Come on pog buddies put the word in we want special treats,
we want special treats!!

If you want to register poggies for the show at the show that is ok
but we need numbers NOW! for the other formentioned items.(big words
for a little girl huh)

2. Frannie says get your pictures in right away if you want your
poggies in the Rainbow Bridge Memorial(sniff, sniff) need snail mail
photos or email photos soon as possible.

Thank you
Mari, new queen of the house
Leeloo, excuse me! I don't think so.

i've already seen two people freak out over this supposed virus / worm
attack, so i figured i'd pass it on to others that might encounter it.
this warning was written by a fellow PI and forensic analyst, so he
knows what he's talking about.

----

There is a hoax that has just started out that you all need to be aware
of. It is built to appear to come from a company called Evocash. It
accuses you of sending a Worm to it, wiping out all of its dat and
costing it thousands. It goes on to say it has sent you a worm that is
undetectable and will start to wreak havoc on your system that a format
won't even fix.

IGNORE IT.

First I want to Thank each one of you for your calls, cards, emails, prayers
and thoughts that helped Nezzie and me through this. Nezzie is fine, she
likes being a single poggy and getting free rein of the house. We are
babysitting Rhiannon and Lady Bug for Frannie and she is guarding the litter
box. I am getting there, I feel a huge hole, but knowing she is not
suffering or in pain is a good thought. Dr. Dressen is using Twinkle as an
educational hedgehog for vet students, so that she can continue to share
with others as she liked to do. I will get her remains later and she will
have a special place.

We are going to still have Diva Training at the Mile High Show. Deb Weaver
told me I did not want to explain to Twinkle and Gracie, why is wasn't held.
And she is right, I don't. Those two were Divas in the First degree, one
does not mess with them even if they are spirits of our hearts.

Twinkle basically died of Fatty Liver Disease because she wasn't eating,
even though she was being given food. The tumor in her ovaries was a
surprise. She was a brave girl to the end.

From: "Priscilla Dressen"

Hi Susan,
It's after 6:30 on Friday night and I'm still at the office. Something
about
Fridays and animals getting really sick!

I do have the results, the prelims came in first but I wanted the final
report
to be sure of the problem and I still may send the fluid in to have it
checked
out. But the Kidney and heart were normal. The lung had some areas of
congestion, there was severe hepatic lipidosis (which was to be expected due
to
her anorexia) and she had a granulosa cell tumor in her ovaries. The tumor
was
a very aggressive form.

I'm suspecting the fluid was due to her hepatic lipidosis. The ovarian
tumor
does not appear to have metastasized, so if it were her cause of death it
would
have been indirect by leading her to lipidosis. I suspect her respiratory
problems were due to a weakened immune system because of the cancer. If she
hadn't had the lipidosis, the tumor would have been the ultimate cause in a
very
short time.

This is such a catch 22, because I would have been reluctant to take her to
surgery for a hysterectomy due to her size, for fear of anesthetic death or
lipidosis and indirectly it happened anyway. This is so sad, and I want you
to
know that she is a legend in our hearts. I can't tell you how many little
hedgies I have met and I will never forget her - she was so special. We
will
all miss her.

Greetings Quilly Friends!

Mom is not gonna be here tomorrow, and I'll be asleep of course, heh heh
heh -- so this is just a quick note!

We have wheels! We have two white wheels left, which are $20.00 a piece
plus shipping. And we have two neon pink wheels, and one neon/lime green
wheel left, which are $30.00 each plus shipping. The white wheels are the
same except for the bucket itself, which is thinner than the pink and green
wheels. We don't recommend a "fluffy" hedgehog (more than 400-500 grams or
so) use the white wheels. The pink and green wheels are made from a
thicker bucket and could probably handle even the most over conditioned
hedgie.  ^.^;;

See pictures here >>> http://www.thelandofmyr.com/wheels.html

Please send us your zip code for exact shipping costs -- these wheels weigh
about 4 pounds. We can accept checks, money orders and PayPal. Payment
must be received before we ship your wheel(s). If you have any questions
or concerns, please e-mail mom privately at: aimee@...

Compliment your hedgehog's new wheel and exercise plan with some Myr Mix
food! Regular (http://www.thelandofmyr.com/myrmix) and lite
(http://www.thelandofmyr.com/myrmixlite) mixes are available for $4.00 per
pound. Mom would be happy to combine shipping, or order Myr Mix separately
if your hedgehog has a wheel all ready. ^.^

We were going to pick the hedge kids up from the sitter this
afternoon. The road we planned to use was closed for construction
(not unusual for this time of year), and rather than take the
official detour, hubby went the opposite way. You understand, we had
never been that way before, he just thought it would be a better
route. Would you believe, we passed Hedgehog Avenue!

Basically the computer plays 20 questions with you. I tried to have
it guess hedgehog... the funny part was ready the assumptions it made
about hedgehogs! For example, it says that hedgies can't swim, that
they don't like to run, and that they don't come in many varieties.
Try it out.

Good news, The lump Twinkle had yesterday was large and hard, this morning,
a little smaller and felt like two. AT Dr. Dressen's non existent, it
completely disappeared. I was so shocked, I felt where the lump was and
couldn't feel it either, it was gone. Dr. Dressen examined her and found
her to be much better than Monday. She was very happy not to do surgery.
The Diva just laid their and let us wonder. Frannie decided that it was the
drive up from Denver to Fort Collins, she had to make several quick stops
with the traffic acting it most than its crazy self. Her test showed that
the infection was clearly up nicely. She is now peacefully sleeping next to
the food bowl. THANK YOU FOR ALL THOSE PRAYERS BECAUSE THEY WORKED BIG
TIME!!!!!!!

Nezzie is sleeping in the corner, what has she been up too, that she did a
time out on herself. That is scary. She is doing better also, no more
green and bloody poo, just plain ole brown.

Both girls are still on meds, but they are showing great signs of
improvement for which I am crediting all of you and your positive thoughts.

I am now going to take a nap as I didn't sleep very much last night and I am
still in need of Rescue Remedy or Isle of Jura either one would work well.
They scared the life out of me for while.

Many Thanks for all of you and especially -- Thanks to Fran for Driving,
Tammy and Sami for support and the blanket, Sherry for support and listening
and all of you for just being there.

morning in her throat area. Please keep my Diva of all Divas in your
prayers. Nezzie seems to be fine at the moment, she is snuggling close to
Twinkle and input and output has improved. Mom needs a large bottle of

Greetings Hedgehogs and Friends!

This is a little note to inform you about the Hedgehog Welfare Society's
Pet Finder web site. You may see the HWS's Pet Finder locale at >>>
http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/CT171.html

Four new adoptable hedgehogs have been added today. Two in the Chicago
Illinois area; Unnamed and Tiggy (Dawn Wrobel is actually the contact
person for the hedgies in IL, but she is out of town until the 11th) -- and
two in the Ypsilanti Michigan area; Simba and Dozer (their pictures should
be up soon!). Please contact Erin Marshman concerning Simba and/or Dozer
at erinmarshman@... -- I'll be fielding the inquiries for Unnamed and
Tiggy until Dawn is back, so if you'd like to fill out an adoption
application, contact me at aimee@....

The Pet Finder web site serves several purposes. One of those purposes is
to allow an individual person OR a small rescue station like myself to list
hedgehog(s) up for adoption that I am fostering until an acceptable forever
home is found. Another purpose is to allow people to list their
relinquishments until an acceptable forever home is found. The HWS has
designed a relinquishment form that is listed on the HWS web site for this
exact purpose. You may see (and use) the relinquishment form by going
to >>> http://www.hedgehogwelfare.org >>> relinquishments >>> fill out the
form and click submit.

One thing that I want to explain is that the HWS Pet Finder web site is
used as a helpful and informative "middle person". We're working
(volunteering) for YOU and the hedgehogs. Each individual or each rescue
station may have their own adoption guidelines. We, in no way, get in the
way of that. All we do is list the hedgehogs in need of homes, briefly
interview those wishing to adopt (this saves you time and effort, and
gathers some basic information about the individual), and send you all
viable applicants. What do I mean by viable? Well, for example if someone
never fills out and returns our basic questionnaire, the process can go no
further with them. If someone claims that they are just looking for a
"free pet", the process will go no further. If someone writes from CA or
PA, where hedgehogs are illegal, the process will go no further. We will
politely inform them as to why, and thank them for their inquiry. Make
sense? Once you are in touch with the possible adoptees, we're out of the
picture. Unless you need help of course -- some of us have never done this
before!

Pet Finder is working to improve and add a few new features, so the HWS Pet
Finder page may have a slightly new look and feel within a couple
weeks. If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, I'd love to hear
them >>> aimee@...

Also, if you have any hedgehogs to adopt out, you may contact us privately
(maurita@... or aimee@...), or use the relinquishment
form on the HWS web site. (Even though it's not a relinquishment, the form
is quick and easy to use!)

The IHR is active and ready for your registrations.
Registering your hedgehog is valuable to us in the
effort to track all aspects of hedgehog health,
reproduction, and bloodlines. Even if your hedgehog
has little or no history, their information can still
be valuable.
It is also important to update current registrations
when there is a change of ownership, major health
issue, or death. Posts to the list are not acceptable
as registration updates, they must come in through the
form on the IHR web page. This multiplies the
effectiveness of the registry many times.
If your hedgehog was registered prior to the recent
ownership change (registration numbers prior to
10,000) we need to verify your old registrations. The
easiest way to do this is to email me, stating that
you had a hedgehog(s) registered, with their numbers
if known, or at least the owner's name that they were
registered under, so we can get information correct,
updated, and entered into the new database.

The IHA has recently developed a bulletin board type
site intended to help with veterinary education and
outreach. This site is open to all veterinarians, vet
techs, vet students, and vet school professors with
the purpose of presenting easily searchable hedgehog
health information covering injuries, illnesses, care
and maintenance, and handling tips. This is set up in
a bulletin board format to enable it to be easily
classified and searched. It is divided into areas such
as Care, Ownership, and Health Articles (contains
articles printed in such formats as the IHA News,
Hedgehog Central, and other web sites with author
permission), Medication Use (for discussion of
appropriate hedgehog medications), Hedgehog Medical
Records (for case histories, medical records, and
previous treatment issues to be used as a research
tool), Current Medical Cases (for discussion of
ongoing cases), Vet Contacts (to help vets contact
other vets and to assist in adding to a list of
hedgehog friendly vets for owners), and Vet/Owner
Relations (for discussions regarding expectations of
vets and owners in hedgehog health care).
This board is accepting any medical records, x-rays,
blood panels, or any other data that could be useful
for other vets to examine for education. This
information can be emailed to beccaatmisty@y...
or can be mailed via postal service as well. (email
for addy). Any medical records sent in will be
considered to have approval to post in part or whole
as needed.
We would also like to greatly encourage your
veterinarian to join the board and share whatever
information that they have to present or learn from.
There is NO FEE to join this board, and all vets, vet
techs, vet students, and vet school professors are
encouraged to join and participate. This board can be
accessed at www.hedgehoghealth.com Encourage your vet
to join today!

Hey everyone, listen up please, mom woke me up to place this ad.

The Mile High Show is Sept. 26, 27, 28. Mom and Standing Bear are
going to judge the Fun Show which I am sure to win in the "cutest"
contest. Anyway, every entrant will receive a gift! plus the winner
gets a nice laminated certificate!

So all you hoggies put on the weight if you want to win the largest,
go on a diet if you want to win the littliest and if you think your
funny well you go poggy! There are lots of different categories to
suit each hedgies specialty, even the most spoiled. In that category
your slave needs to write a small essay on why you are spoiled and
present it along with you on the table. For those of you who enter
the "messiest" category you will be last, cause lets face it
your...messy!

Look forward to meeting all you nice listies and your poggies and
hope you have a great time because there will be lots of fun things
to do and see!!!!!!!!!!

Yours truly
Leeloo

Oh yeah, see all the info you need on www.milehighhedgehogs.com
