To my friends in the horse community,
Most of you already know that I have a passion for helping create greater
understanding between horses and humans. Some of the ways I try to further
this cause are through individual lessons, horse training, retreats, camps,
the horse management newsletter and educational videos. I¹ve set my sights
next to produce a feature length movie.
At this point, I¹m not asking for money, I¹m just throwing out this project
to see if it might be viable to fund it entirely with private donations.
After reading the following proposal, please indicate whether you might be
interested in donating to this project and in what amount.
Many thanks,
Stormy
The Path of the Horse
(working title)
A documentary
©2006 Stormy May Productions
Synopsis:
This inspirational, artistic-style documentary will explore the future of
horse-human relationships. As our culture evolves from domination over
nature into a partnership, we see this change being reflected in the work
that people are doing with horses. The stories we show will come from some
of the worlds leading visionaries. These people have made it their life¹s
work to reveal their innermost thoughts and feelings through achievement of
a synergistic balance with the horse¹s own elegant naturalness.
This documentary will explore current roles of horses ranging from
therapists for physically and emotionally challenged people to dance
partners in a person¹s spiritual quest for harmony, understanding, and
oneness with nature. Using a primal level of communication, we may find that
horses have the ability to speak to a person¹s soul, beyond words, and can
help reconnect humans to the natural world.
The story will include stunning close ups and slow motion visuals of horses
working both at liberty and under saddle. Through dialogue, music, art and
poetry, with humility and humor, we will show the direction to an evolving
relationship between horses and humans.
Format:
90-minutes, shot in 16:9 high definition digital video for possible transfer
to film
Audience:
The general teen to adult public.
Distribution: Film festival submissions will provide an avenue for potential
distributors to decide if they would like to buy rights to the movie. I
also have a deal with Trafalgar Square Publishers who distributes the
³Understanding Bits¹ video. They will likely be interested in marketing and
distributing this project and will be able to compete with other
distributors for the rights. Additional markets include the horse owning
public as well as foreign theater and video distribution channels.
Discussion of interview options:
I would like to focus on five individuals currently working on the leading
edge with horses. My top four choices in this field are described below,
three of them have already been contacted and show interest. The fifth spot
at this time is still open. Ideas for the fifth spot are to highlight a
child who has shown very natural and precocious talents with horses, or a
person working in therapeutic riding.
Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling:
Mr. Hempfling is the author of Dancing with Horses and What Horses Reveal.
He runs a riding school in Denmark that emphasizes the spiritual aspects of
horsemanship.
Linda Kohanov:
Ms. Kohanov is the author of The Tao of Equus and Riding Between the Worlds.
She also runs Epona, in Tucson, Arizona. Epona offers human development
programs that explore creativity, intuition, emotional fitness and authentic
community building skills through work with horses.
Frédéric Pignon:
Mr. Pignon is a performer and trainer from France who currently performs
with his three Lusitanian stallions in the Canadian equine touring show,
Cavalia. Through his special relationship with the horses, and in
particular, Templado, he has learned the meaning of true equality with
horses.
Mark Rashid:
Mr. Rashid, is the author of several books including Considering the Horse
and Horses Never Lie. He lives in Estes Park, Colorado where he also
teaches the martial art, Aikido. Mr. Rashid tours the country with his horse
showing people how the use of breath and body awareness can help them to
form a closer bond with their horses.
About the filmmaker:
In this project, filmmaker Stormy May brings her experience as a producer,
actress, and artist, together with more than twenty years working as a horse
trainer, riding instructor, and student of the horse.
Budget:
At this time, we are looking for investors or executive producers who would
like to see this project come to fruition. The projected budget to complete
filming for this project is $25,000..
Incentives for investing:
* The satisfaction of helping spread greater understanding, compassion
and inspiration in the horse world.
* Listing in end credits for all contributors
* Listing in front titles for the executive producer (s)
* 10 DVD copies for contributors of $100 or more (give them as gifts or
share with friends!)
* If the movie makes money above the costs to produce, market and
duplicate it, contributors will share in the profits from the DVD sales or
the sale of the rights to the movie. Although there is a possibility for a
huge return on a contribution, there is no way to know right now if the
project will make money. Because of this, I don¹t want people to invest
with only the hopes of making a return. Strict accounts will be kept and
will be made available for any investor to see.
I have looked into forming a non-profit organization for this project but
the paperwork is daunting. If anybody has a non-profit organization that
they would like to umbrella this project under then contributions could be
made tax deductible to some extent.
Suggested contribution levels:
Executive Producer: $10,000
Major contributor: $1,000
Contributor: $500
Supporter: $100
