Hello and welcome to the February e-bulletin from the House Rabbit Network!
Love is in the Hare- this month we are promoting pairs of rabbits for adoption!
Rabbits are social creatures that love the companionship of another bunny.
It is so cute to watch them snuggle together and groom. If you are new to rabbits,
consider adopting a bonded pair of rabbits rather than a single bun. If you
currently have a rabbit, consider getting your bun a friend! While they enjoy the
company of another rabbit, you cannot just place two bunnies together. You
must go through a bonding process. HRN has an article on our web site about
bonding and our volunteers can provide guidance. Once you have a bonded
pair, you will enjoy watching them play and snuggle together. HRN does
sell "Love is in the Hare" merchandise at www.cafepress.com/lovehare
Shop at Shaws? Save your receipts for HRN. We collect Shaws receipts and
mail them back to the company. Shaws donates 1% of the receipt sales to
HRN. In a few months we have already raised $200. So save your receipts
and mail them to HRN at P.O. Box 2602 Woburn MA 01888.
Don't forget about the nail trim program at Especially For Pets! Especially
For Pets will trim your pet's nails for a donation to charity. HRN is honored
to be the chosen charity for the first quarter of 2008! If you are looking for a
place to get your dog or cat's nails trimmed, call your local Especially for
Pets for an appointment. Some stores also do rabbits! Please make sure to
call ahead, they don't take walk-ins.
February's Buns of the Month are Kelvin and Eli. Eli and Kelvin are brothers
who were part of the Fitchburg rescue in January 2007. These boys
have grown up together and they have become completely inseparable.
Eli has beautiful chocolate colored fur. Eli tends to be shy and although he is
larger than his brother, he looks to his smaller brother to protect him. Kelvin
has beautiful grey fur and very unique facial expressions when he gets excited.
The boys have great appetites and love their pellets, fresh salads, and their treats
– especially raisins! The boys like to share their salads and often end up nose to
nose at the middle of a piece of lettuce or kale. They always come running to the
cage door for any snack. The boys have lots of energy and love to come out and
play to show off their great jumps and sideways flips. They are very strong and
healthy rabbits. Even when they cannot come out to play they still do everything
together and always keep each other entertained. The boys would love to find an
active home with someone who is experienced with rabbits. They can be difficult
to pick up and would prefer an experienced bunny handler. After spending a
year with their foster parents, they’ve worked out the bunny kinks and have
developed good litterbox habits. Although they are strong rabbits, they are still
gentle and would do well interacting with the whole family. The boys cannot
wait to meet their new forever family.
