Welcome to the November e-bulletin from the House Rabbit Network.
HRN's second annual benefit night at Flatbread on October 23rd was a huge success. Flatbread's donations from pizza sales, along with our auction, raised $2779 for the rabbits! We had a large turnout, with everyone eating pizza and having fun with their friends. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us!
The 2008 HRN Calendar is now available! You can purchase it from Lulu. If you order it early enough media mail shipping is fairly inexpensive but may take 2 weeks.

November's bunny of the month is Sonia! Sonia originally came to HRN three years ago when a rescue in Maryland was closing. She was adopted, but was recently returned when her owner moved to the mid-west. Sonia is a very friendly bunny. She is personable and outgoing. When she is out, she is checking everything out and running all over the place. She enjoys jumping. When she is ready for a break, she will lounge in high places, where she can look out over her territory. Sonia is self-assured and has good litter box habits. Not to mention she is terribly cute!
As always, thank you for your support of the buns!
Please join us at the 2nd Annual Benefit Night at Flatbread!
Tuesday October 23rd the House Rabbit Network is having a benefit night at Flatbread from 4-9pm. Flatbread will be donating $3.50 from every large pizza and $1.75 from every small pizza purchased that night to HRN. The Fall Yankee Candle Fundraiser officially kicks off at the Summer Bunny Bash. This fundraiser has proved so popular that this year HRN is participating in both the Spring and Fall fundraisers! Please check out the Fall Collection at http://www.yankeefundraising.com
This is a great way to prepare in advance for the holiday season as these festive Yankee candles make fabulous gifts. Even better, HRN will receive 40% of all proceeds so this is a wonderful way to raise money for a good cause and at the same
time find great gifts for your friends and family! For orders, please email Tricia Hart at tpmii@.... The sale ends 14 September.
HRN will be holding educational booths at the following events:
These education days are good opportunities to talk with knowledgeable rabbit people about any questions you may have on rabbit care. We will also have informational handouts and profiles/pictures of our bunnies available for adoption. Please note that rabbits are not adopted out on site.
We hope you have marked Tuesday October 23 on your calendar! This will be HRN’s second Flatbread Benefit night. Last year’s benefit was a huge success so we are thrilled to be a chosen charity for a second year running. Located in Bedford off Rt 62, Flatbread is a unique community-oriented restaurant that makes a
point of using local and organic produce for their recipes. Flatbread will donate $3.50 from every large pizza and $1.75 from every small pizza to HRN. We will also be holding a Chinese Auction. Last year we raised a generous amount for the bunnies so this is definitely a great event for us! Prizes and more details to follow at a later date.
Now to our Bunny of the Month- Ringo! Ringo is an adorable bunny with a cute white spot on his nose! When he sees you he runs right over to the edge of his cage looking for attention and treats. Ringo likes giving kisses and will happily wash your face for you. If he's not washing your face, then he is looking for pats or a treat. He is fond of food, in fact a
little too fond. He has been on a diet and has already lost half a pound! You do have to be careful giving him his food as he is a little too eager to eat it and might mistake your finger for a carrot or piece of lettuce.
Ringo is a confident and self assured rabbit. He enjoys his play time and is
always exploring in the exercise pen.He is fairly active and always looking
for the next adventure. Ringo has good litter box habits.
Check it out for fun pictures and videos, and all things bunny-related. If you have your own MySpace account, please consider adding HRN as one of your friends – this will help spread the word about our rescue work as well as the wonderful rabbits available for adoption.
As always, thank you for your support of the buns!
Welcome to the July issue of the House Rabbit Network e-newsletter!
With summer upon us, we would like to remind bunny parents to be mindful of the heat and the dangers it presents to rabbits. Temperatures of 90 degrees or higher can be fatal to rabbits, and, when humidity levels are high, even a temperature of 80 degrees can cause heat stress. If you do not have an air conditioner, there are several things you can do to keep your rabbit cool. These include freezing water in soda bottles so your bunnies can lay against them, putting ice in their water bowl, and misting their ears with water. You can also use a fan to blow air across an ice block. For more tips on summer dangers, including fleas and fly stroke, please check out: http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/summer.shtml
HRN is currently involved in a large scale rabbit rescue in
Plymouth. This began in the spring when we received word about several rabbits on the loose. Exact numbers were not known but it soon became clear that the rabbits were not neutered or spayed - and their population was growing at a rapid rate. Domestic rabbits rarely survive in the wild for long. Without the necessary skills to make their way, they are vulnerable to predators, and their lives are often frightening and short. With these concerns in mind, a core group of volunteers has been making enormous efforts to catch these bunnies. Extra help is always needed so if you are able to assist with this rescue please contact our hotline at 781-431-1211.
Readers may recall that in January of this year HRN took in over 30 rabbits in a law enforcement case. These rabbits, many of whom were babies at the time, became known as the Fitchburg rabbits. Some have been adopted but many are still waiting for loving homes. Please consider adopting
one of these bunnies – by doing so you not only be welcoming a new bunny to your home, but also opening up a space in a foster home for a Plymouth rabbit. Profiles of the Fitchburg rabbits can be found at: http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/adoption/fadopt.shtml
July’s Bunny of the Month is Daisy, a brown and white English Spot mix - and a big lovable bun! Daisy is always at the edge of her cage watching you, and as soon as you open her cage door, she wants you to love her with lots and lots of pets! Daisy does wonderful bunny flops, even in her cage. She's a happy girl! Daisy is very playful and loves to run around. She is also gentle and sweet, and would do well with children. You can see a picture of her at http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/adoption/bunofmonth.shtml
Each year HRN produces
a calendar featuring HRN rabbits. We are now gathering photos for the 2008 calendar. If you have any high resolution bunny pictures that you would like to submit we welcome you to do so! The only caveat is that the bunnies need to have been fostered by or adopted from HRN. Please send photos of no more than 5 MB per email to enverking@... by August 1st.
And finally, don’t forget the annual Bunny Bash on Saturday August 4th at 1 pm in Wilmington. This is a fun pot luck where bunny friends meet to chat and trade stories. You can also bring pictures to show off your buns! To sign up and get directions, email info@... or call our hotline at 781-431-1211. We hope that you can
make it!
Thank you for your support of the buns!

The spring Yankee Candle fundraiser was a great success! Thanks to our volunteers’ efforts, we generated $3634 in Yankee candle sales. This translates into an approximate $1520 donation to HRN! Since this is one of our most popular fundraisers, we will also be participating in the fall collection. The kick-off date
for this will be August 4, the day of the HRN’s annual pot luck – also known as the Summer Bunny Bash!
Our bunny of the month for June is April, a big, beautiful New Zealand White rabbit. She has a snowy white coat, and pretty ruby eyes. April is always at the edge of her cage to greet you and enjoys attention. When you talk to her in the cage, she listens attentively. April is vocal and will let you know she doesn't like something with gentle grunts. Playtime is fun as she races through the tubes and binkies along the edge of the pen. Then she stands on her hind legs to check everything out! She has excellent litter box habits. April is one of the Fitchburg bunnies.
Welcome to the May issue of the House Rabbit Network E-Bulletin!
The Yankee Candle Fundraiser has proved so popular that this year HRN is participating in both the Spring and Fall fundraisers! A reminder also to continue saving those Shaws or Star Market receipts! Shaw’s will donate to HRN
one percent of the total value of receipts collected. So keep asking your friends, colleagues, and family to pass on their receipts. They should be mailed to P.O. Box 2602, Woburn, MA 01888-1102. Funds raised will go towards the medical expenses of HRN’s foster bunnies.

We will also be holding a Chinese Auction. Last year we raised a generous amount for the bunnies so this is definitely a great event for us! Prizes and more details to follow at a later date.
The following Education Events will be held this month:
On May 5 HRN will be at Sweet Meadow Farm, 111 Coolidge St Sherborn MA, from 12-3
On May 19 we will be at Pet Supplies Plus, Burlington MA again from 12-3
Please stop by if you can. We can help with any questions you may have about rabbit care, behavior, or adoption. Although we don’t adopt out on site, we will have a folder with pictures and descriptions of all rabbits available for adoption.
When Naomi first arrived at HRN, she was so scared that she cowered in the corner of the cage. However, her socialization has come a long way. She now barely flinches when you pet her – sometimes even relaxed enough to lay sprawled, legs kicked out, while enjoying a nose rub. She can be a bit stubborn and insist on moving the litter box around but overall she is sweet and good natured. Naomi enjoys her play time outside her cage and shows this by doing binkies (bunny mid-air kicks). She also loves her treats - dried cranberries or peeled baby carrots.
Welcome to the April edition of the House Rabbit Network e-bulletin!
HRN is calling on everyone who shops at Shaw’s or Star Market to hang on to all their register receipts! We are participating in a fundraiser whereby Shaw’s will donate to HRN one percent of the total value of receipts collected. So for the foreseeable future, please ask your friends, colleagues, and family to pass on their receipts. They should be mailed to P.O. Box 2602, Woburn, MA 01888-1102. Funds raised will go towards the medical expenses of HRN’s foster bunnies.
House Rabbit Network has several events coming up in the next month. First, we will be holding the following education days:
• April 21 - Animal Spirit, 2348 Mass Ave Cambridge MA, 12-3 pm
Please stop by to visit us. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have about rabbits and rabbit care. We will also have information of available rabbits - however, we do not adopt out on site.
We will also be at the New England Animal Rights Workshop on April 14. This will be held at the Public Library in Shrewsbury, MA. HRN is scheduled to speak from 12:30-1:00 pm on PetCo's recent decision to start selling rabbits.
Easter is now upon us, a time when, sadly, many baby rabbits are impulsively bought for children. Many of HRN’s bunnies were dumped in shelters, and eventually came to us, as a result of this. Can you help spread the word about HRN’s “Adopt A Retired Easter Bunny” campaign? You can do this by printing out and
hanging up our flyers. There are two different versions, one with pull tabs and one without.
And, finally, on to HRN’s Bunny of the Month for April. Please meet Finnigan, a fun little bunny! He is a cute brown dwarf rabbit who is very curious and loves to
explore. When he is in his exercise pen, Finnegan is always running through the tubes and jumping onto the stool. Finnegan is quite the jumper and easily jumps out of his pen and onto lower tables. He loves to run around and check everything out! While he is very playful, Finnegan also likes attention and happily flattens for a snuggle session. He loves his greens and raisins for treats. While in his cage he plays with toys and rearranges his cage, pushing his litter box around. He is an active rabbit who would do well in a home where he could get plenty of attention and play time. Could that be you?
Have a Happy Easter and thank you for your support of the buns!
Welcome to the March edition of the House Rabbit Network e-bulletin!
We are pleased to announce several education days coming up this month:
On March 10, HRN will have an information booth at Especially for Pets in Medway, MA from 12-3 pm. Small animal nail trims will be available for a $5 donation so if your bunny’s nails are getting on the long side, here’s your chance to get them seen to! For some family fun, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt (for a small donation) as well as a coloring contest.
On March 17, we will be at Animal Spirit – a health food store for pets – also from12-3 pm. Animal Spirit is located at 2348 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge, MA.
The next day, on March 18, our booth will be at Pet Source in Stow, MA from 11am-2pm
March 24, Especially for Pets, Sudbury, MA, 11am-2pm
March 31, Especially for Pets, Wayland, MA, 11am-2pm
Please stop by to visit us. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have about rabbits and rabbit care. We will also have information about available rabbits - however, rabbits are never adopted out on site.
Easter is now approaching. Sadly, this is a time when many baby rabbits are purchased on impulse and then abandoned a few months later at shelters (or worse, released into the wild where they most likely perish). Please do what you can to educate the public and encourage them not to buy rabbits. HRN has flyers covering the reality of Easter Bunnies which you can print out and post at libraries, cafes, and other places.
They both like to be petted and quickly put their heads down for a buffing. Chloe and Clover are very pretty – their photograph does not do them justice! They are extremely playful and love to run around the exercise pen. The girls will race through the tubes and do binkies for
you! Ever curious, they are usually at the edge of their cage to check things out, and quickly beg for a treat if they think they can get some out of you. They are excellent hay eaters and have great litter box habits. Since they are slightly larger girls, all they need is an extra large cage, play time and someone to love them. Maybe that person is you!
And finally, don’t forget to renew your membership! If you are not a member, please consider becoming one. Your tax deductible donation will be used for medical costs (spays/neuters, vet bills) and educational expenses. With your yearly membership you will receive copies of our newsletter, Rabbit Tracks, when they are published. Currently there are three issues per year. Our memberships run from April 1 until March 31st. HRN memberships run from April l to March 31 (monies paid in January/February will be credited to the next year). http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/join.shtml
Welcome to the February 2007 edition of the House Rabbit Network e-bulletin!
This has been a frantically busy time for HRN. At the end of January,we took in 34 rabbits from a law enforcement case in Fitchburg, MA. These rabbits had been housed outdoors and continuously bred. As HRN was given only 48 hours to make arrangements, volunteers scrambled to pull in the rabbits, sex them, and get them into temporary housing. To say this was a huge undertaking is putting it mildly! Luckily, many of the rabbits are young litters. This means that
fewer of them are likely to be pregnant, and many can be housed together, at least temporarily. This will buy us time to find placements. We have been contacting other rescue organizations to take in rabbits – so far Sweet Binks, 3 Bunnies, and Hop Along Hollow have been able to help out. We are also busy scheduling numerous spays and neuters. HRN is seeking donations to help cover the cover these medical bills. If you would like to contribute, please write a check to "House Rabbit Network" with "Fitchburg" in the memo section and mail it to: House Rabbit Network, P.O. Box 2602Woburn, MA01888. For Pay Pal options, please check out http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/fitchburg.shtml
Recently PetCo has started selling rabbits in local stores. HRN is strongly against any rabbits being sold in stores, especially since so many rabbits are being euthanized at local shelters. In response, we have issued the following statement:
The House Rabbit Network is saddened to see that PetCo has abandoned its "Think
Adoption First" initiative and has unfortunately started selling rabbits in their stores.
Since HRN is against selling rabbits in stores while rabbits are being euthanized at
shelters, we cannot in any
way condone it. Therefor, HRN will no longer be able to
have a relationship with PetCo.
HRN is please to see that many people have contacted PetCo to express their concerns with this development.
Now on to our Bunny of the Month. Please meet Bramble, a fun bun who loves to shake his head then throw himself up in the air to perform a spectacular binky! He would love to find a home where he has plenty of room to scoot around, jump and play. Bramble is a handsome boy with pretty agouti fur and some Dutch markings. (You can see how adorable he is here: http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/adoption/bunofmonth.shtml) He loves to be patted and will stay along side of you for hours. Sadly for Bramble, he has been waiting a long time for a forever home. Has your home been waiting for him?
With Valentine’s Day coming up, it’s perfect timing for HRN’s annual “Love is in the Hare” promotion. HRN has many sweet and devoted couples in foster care waiting for a loving home. Please check out http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/adoption/pairs.shtml to see couples available for adoption. We also have cute “Love is in the Hare” logo items (such as T-shirts, mugs and teddy bears) available for purchase at http://www.cafepress.com/lovehare
February is also national “Adopt a Rescued Rabbit” month, a promotion supported by HRN and rescues across the country. Most people do not realize that rabbits are the third most frequently abandoned pet at shelters. Part of HRN’s mission is to provide much-needed education on taking care of companion rabbits in an effort to minimize this tragic but all too common situation.
As always, thank you for your support of the
buns!

Happy New Year and welcome to the January 2007 E-Bulletin of the House Rabbit Network!
A big thank you to everyone who helped make 2006 such a successful year. HRN found new homes for 141 rabbits – our second highest total ever! We also held 40 education events which we are thrilled about since this outreach not only raises awareness of our adoptable bunnies but provides important information on care and behavior to people already living with rabbits.
And so on to our first bunny of the month for 2007. Meet Mabel, a beautiful white mini-lop. Mabel is a friendly bunny who is always at the edge of her cage for pets. She just loves attention! Mabel is curious and often plays with her toys in her cage. The slinky is one of her favorites. She will even race around in her cage. Playtime is a blast as she runs around the exercise pen. While Mabel is a sweet girl, she can be protective of her litter box and a little too eager with her food. She has accidentally bitten people when in a rush to get a treat. For this reason, she would do best in a home without children. Adults can easily compensate for her behavior. Mabel has excellent litter box habits.
HRN will hold a volunteer’s meeting on Sunday Jan 28 at 1pm in Wilmington. New volunteers are always needed and anyone is welcome to attend. If you are interested, please email info@... or call 781-431-1211 for more information.
Please remember to check out the HRN blog at http://blog.rabbitnetwork.org. Here you can read
anecdotes about current bunnies available for adoption as well as useful information about rabbit behavior from their foster parents.

Welcome to the December e-bulletin from the House Rabbit Network!
We have lots of good news for this issue! First, we are thrilled to report that HRN has been awarded an Animal Rescue Grant from Oxbow Pet Products! This is an annual award offered to recognize and support “outstanding animal rescue and rehabilitation programs”. HRN was one of three recipients this year awarded a $1000 grant. This much appreciated contribution will go towards the medical bills of our foster bunnies.
November’s HRN benefit at Flatbread was a huge success! Flatbread’s donation from the sale of pizzas combined with the proceeds from the Chinese Auction raised a little over $2000 for the bunnies! It was a fun event with wonderful prizes, great camaraderie – and the food was delicious too. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!

Welcome to the September e-bulletin from the House Rabbit Network!
How often do you search online? Now every time you do a search, you can earn
money for HRN! Instead of using google, yahoo or the other search engines, go
to www.goodsearch.com. Type in House Rabbit Network in the "I'm Supporting" box,
and search away! We get a penny for every search you do. With all the HRN supporters searching it can add up to quite a bit of money over the year.
Thanks to all who participated in the Yankee Candle fundraiser. We raised over
$1400 for HRN! Candles should be arriving in a couple of weeks.
This month we are going to feature Rollo. Former bunny of the month, current foster
rabbit. September marks one year that she has been in foster care. She seems
to be having a hard time finding her forever
home, and she is such a great bun!
She is friendly, loves attention, loves to play, and has perfect litter box habits. It
is amazing that someone hasn't scooped her up by now.
The September bunny of the month is Lea!
Hello! My name is Lea. I am a 1 year old spayed female mini lop who weighs
7.25 lbs. Unfortunately, I was abandoned and found by animal control, but I am
in a loving foster home now! I have my foster mom trained well, too! Every
morning I hit my food dish against the side of the cage to wake her up, and she
feeds me! Can you believe humans can be so highly trainable?! I love to come
out of my hutch and hop around and play with my toys. I even do little hopping
dances when I am very happy! I never ever bite, and I LOOOVE to be petted.
I’ll even flop over on my side to let you pet my
whole body! Sometimes my foster
mom tries to hold me, and I tolerate it for a little while, but then I get squirmy. I’d
much rather be petted. My foster mother has been trying to see what foods I like,
and most foods I will chomp down very quickly. Please do not feed me tomatoes,
chicory, bok choy, or turnip greens. I don’t like them very much. Some of my
favorite foods include romaine, green leaf lettuce, collard greens, kale, carrot tops,
carrots, peppers, and small bits of apple and banana. I am also VERY well litter
box trained, which comes in handy when my foster mom lets me hop around the
house- she doesn’t have to clean up my messes. All in all, I am a very happy, healthy, and well adjusted rabbit who is patiently waiting for the right permanent home.
Email us at info@... and we can tell you how to place an order. Orders
and checks must be received by August 15th. Unfortunately you need to live in Eastern MA to participate in this fund raiser. We are unable to mail orders to people.
Summer season is a difficult time for shelters and rescue groups. Many people surrender their animals before they go on vacation while most people prefer to wait until after their summer trips to adopt. This means that most shelters are overloaded during the summer. HRN is currently full, and has a wait list of rabbits waiting to come into our foster system. If you
have been thinking about adopting a rabbit, now would be a great time.
August Bun of the Month Punky is looking for a great home!
Punky is a pretty bun with beautiful blue eyes and dainty eyeliner around them. She is a bit of a prima donna and is very expressive. She expects to be worshipped and you know exactly what she likes, and doesn't like. She loves her play time, racing around the exercise pen and throwing in binkies all the time. Don't take too long giving her pellets, or she will grunt at you. Punky, a.k.a. Punkerella, has two litter boxes. One she sleeps in, and one she uses for her perfect litter box habits. Do you have a home for this diva?
July's Bun of the Month Harpo was adopted!
The Annual Summer Bunny Bash was a huge success! Brag books were everywhere and plenty of rabbit stories were told. Thanks to everyone who attended. If you
would like to order Bun in the Sun merchandise, it is available at Cafepress. http://www.cafepress.com/buninthesun

July's Bun of the Month- Harpo! Harpo is a friendly boy. He loves to be petted and smooshes his head right down! He will take pets until your hand gets tired. Harpo loves to run and play. He races around the exercise pen and loves to run through the tube. Harpo has excellent litter box habits and is a good hay eater. He also likes his raisins! Isn't he a handsome boy?
Yankee
Candles! HRN's annual Yankee Candle Fundraiser is Aug 1-15. Interested in purchasing candles or selling them for HRN? Contact us at

Don't forget to keep your buns cool this summer! If you want to be in air conditioning, they do too. If you don't have ac, here are a few tips for you. Take an empty 2 liter soda bottle, fill it with water and then freeze it. Place the frozen bottle in the cage with your buns. You can
also gently mist their ears with water to help them cool down. Make
sure they have plenty of water!
HRN has been selected by the Medway Especially For Pets for their Adoption Initiative! The program runs July 1 - Dec 31st. They will be collecting donations and featuring our rabbits for adoption in their store. Anyone who adopts from HRN in the
next 6 months will receive
a coupon good for 10% off all their purchases for the next month at

Bunny of the Month – Roxie
Roxie is a beautiful bunny. She is a mix between a dutch bunny and a mini-rex. She has the velvety soft rex fur, and the dutch markings. Roxie is also prone to being pudgy like many rex rabbits! She loves to eat her pellets, greens and is a good hay eater. Roxie enjoys attention and will flop in her cage when she is happy. She runs around the exercise pen during playtime. Her litter box habits are good.
Roxie was originally found wandering the streets of Wakefield last April. She was captured and promptly gave birth to four babies who have all been adopted. Now it is her turn! Do you have a home for her? Roxie can be viewed at: http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/adoption/bunofmonth.shtml

Welcome to the December, 2005 issue of the House Rabbit Network’s E-Notes.
December is a busy time of the year for everyone, but especially for HRN volunteers. We have lots of announcements to make and we hope you are as excited as we are.
This year we are participating in the "I’m Dreaming of a White Bunny" campaign. Many white rabbits with pink or red eyes are often overlooked by potential adopters and at shelters simply because they have no eye color. These beautiful New Zealand White’s are truly remarkable rabbits with fantastic personalities and most are quite comical. Please consider a New Zealand White rabbit to adopt as a single bun or as a pal for your existing bun. Visit http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/white/whitebunny.shtml to learn more about these beautiful rabbits. While there, don’t forget to check out our new line of clothing.

Bunny of the Month – Flash
Flash is an incredibly sweet bunny. He loves to be petted and snuggled. Flash is very gentle and mellow. He was originally found as a stray bunny. His right eye was infected and had a ruptured retina, which sadly needed to be removed. Flash is only about 6 months old now and still has a little growing to do. He has large, curious ears and a long white tail. His litter box habits aren't the best, but no bunny is perfect! Do you have room in your home for this lovable stray who has already been through so much?
Thank you for your support of the bunnies this past year. Your contributions have helped pay for spays and neuters, surgeries, care and housing of the rabbits. Without your help, some of these beautiful creatures would not have survived.
Have a wonderful Holiday. May you keep safe and secure and we wish you the very best for the upcoming year.
