Hello group members,
List owners, I apologize in advance if this is not permitted on your
group. I'm just trying to get the word out about MoStar's need for
drivers over the holiday weekend. If your group is moderated and you
choose not to allow the post through, we completely understand.
We have dogs all over the place needing transport assistance. It has
been our experience that transport on holiday weekends is difficult to
fill. This puzzles me a bit since folks are generally driving to meet
with family for the holidays and could take a dog(s) along for the ride
- usually for a very large distance.
Below are the From/To locations of the dogs that MoStar has been asked
to transport. If you are traveling this weekend and can spare a little
room for a furry butt or two, please email me directly at:
mostartransports @ yahoo.com (remove spaces)
Also, we may be needing overnight accomodations if we have drivers that
can help part way. If you have room with all the family activities to
take in a weary traveler for a day or two, please email us as well.
Pooch Smooches~

Give these little Pekes a chance to find a wonderful home.
This transport is Urgent. These Pekes must get to their new rescue. One is so traumatized, he needs to immediately start rehabilitation. The other is with owner that absolutely cannot keep him and he is a biter. We absolutely MUST get them to TN!!
This transport is for 2 very scared little Pekingese that needs to get to a rescue in TN that specialized in these little abused biters. This rescue does amazing things with these dogs. In fact, most if not all learn to trust again and are very loving at the time of adoption. They are always placed in adult-only homes that know and understand their past. If for any reason these little babies can't be rehabilitated enough to be placed into a well-educated home, then he will live a life of luxury with the rescuer. But her track record is outstanding!!!
Temperament: Typical peke. Has a bite history but gives a long low growl as a warning before he will bite. But he should be no problem when handled by people who are caring and understanding.

Hi my name is Sheila and i just moved to MS from FL. To go to
school, read your mind and answered that question. I am part of
English springer Rescue and I have been given the enormous task of
getting a dog from a kill shelter to Poplarville, MS on Saturday
between 10A and 6P. I will foster this guy, but I am going down
with a group and cannot leave them to go the extra 50-60 miles to
get him from the shelter lady. I am pleading with anyone able to
fill in this gap to please be very generous to this boy and give up
a small portion of your saturday to help him to safety. I will be
able to fill in more details tomorrow, as this has all developed
since 3p today. If you or anyone you know can help please, please,
please, call me at 662-312-4697 or 662-323-2906 Thanks in advance.
Please excuse the crosspost as I am desperately trying to find this
gentleman a ride.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CROSS-POST.
NEEDED IMMEDIATELY: qualified driver to transport donated 40-foot mobile office from Cody, Wyoming to Gulfport, Mississippi for Humane Society of South Mississippi. Unfortunately, the previous two commitments to transport it fell through. And they could really really use it right now.
While it would be ideal if the transport could be donated, bottom-line -- the key is getting it there. And quick.
So arrangements could be made to have all the transport costs including return airfare, if needed.
Please contact me if you can help. We've offered to coordinate logistics for them.
Thank you, Laurel

***************PLEASE CROSSPOST**************
TRANSPORT SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY / SUNDAY...OCT 1ST & 2ND
This is the SECOND attempt for these dogs....and could be the LAST!!
Transport help is desperately needed for these 5 dogs!!
Two of them were pulled from a flooded house in Biloxi, Miss after
surviving for days without food/water. When the owners of katrain &
sarge were finally located, they no longer wanted their family
pets....so these babies found the will to survive this
disaster.....only to be turned away by their family. They have a
foster home waiting for them in Scranton, PA. These babies are
depending on us to help them! This could their only chance for a
happy ending from this tragedy. This is a LONG transport...but if we
all pull together, we can make this happen.
Caramel, Patches & Pepper's owner was relocated to close to
Harrisburg, Pa to stay with a family member, and she is now anxiouly
awaiting to be reunited with their pets. She is scheduled to arrive
in Pa on the 29th...but the airline refused to let her take her
babies on the plane with her. So she is hoping to find transport help
to get her babies home to her.
Please help save these precious lives. They have endured enough
suffering.
Any leg can be modified if needed. Thanks so much!

If you want your horses done please contact Debora Godbey. Debora has 15 years experience branding horses with the government and a freeze marking company and now works independently.
Many of you do not know she had a head on collision with a drunk driver over a month ago which has made it hard to travel this distance. She is fine physically but the accident left her without a horse trailer. The trailer, along with her truck were totaled in the accident.
Here is your chance...act now if you are in the areas below. If you are somewhere that she pulls through on her way to and from Oklahoma and want your horses branded...give her a call. She will not be coming back east.

MISSISSIPPI - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED NOW
CAN ANY OF YOU DRIVE TO ALABAMBA/MISSISSIPPI BORDER?
I have already spoken to Liz Jones and Dawn Arnold. THANK YOU!
We received another desperate plea from a Joanne Reints in Alabama
(near MI border). She is an individual who has already rented a 14-
passenger bus and has some donated supplies to go into Mississippi.
SHE NEEDS VOLUNTEERS TO TRAVEL WITH HER, to rescue animals.
SHE NEEDS MORE SUPPLIES.
She describes areas in Miss. with NO RESCUE EFFORTS present.
Shelters have flooded. Pets of every breed, size are wandering
streets, starved and injured.
SHE NEEDS TO GO ASAP.
1.) Please contact her directly if you, or any of your volunteers,
can meet her in Alabama to drive into Miss. storm areas:

TIME IS OF ESSENCE. Keep calling her if you can't get through. I
have spoken to her twice, but phone communication is stressed right
now.

Trucks are heading out from Atlanta tomorrow and Friday with supplies. Rescuers are on the way as way from different points across the country. The rescue for Waveland, Bay St. Louis and Gulfport will be coordinated by Jean Woods at the Mobile SPCA who is working with HSUS in the region.
They are located at:
Mobile SPCA
620 Zeigler Circle West
Mobile, AL 36608
If you are one of the volunteers headed to the region you will need to go to the SPCA in Mobile and will be directed from there.
Shelter - they are suggesting you bring a tent. We have a volunteers trying to get rooms in Mobile donated but no word on that yet, we will keep you posted.
Foster volunteers we will keep you posted.
We need more pet supplies! If you have supplies that you can get to Atlanta by tomorrow or Friday morning at the latest (and maybe a truck to help transport) - please email us at katrina@...
We are working on getting storage for more supplies but don't have that yet so just what you can get here right away.
We just spoke with the reporter who posted on craigslist for Waveland and Bay St. Louis - There are no open shelters in the area. He is trying to get the animals to the ASPCA in Mobile. He doesn't even have time to return calls, and is going to disable the email address for the posting, so we are trying to help organize a rescue effort for him. We could not reach the Mobile SPCA and the person manning the emergency number told us that they did not even have a FEMA contact. Right now we are trying to get a rescue team together to get down there to help.
Hopefully, we will have an exact location for rescue efforts later tonight or tomorrow. PLEASE let us know if you are available to help - There are no rescue groups in the area.
I was in Waveland this morning (I'm a news reporter). There are dozens of injured and emaciated dogs and cats roaming the streets and the beach, and NO animal rescue is doing anything for them. The Waveland shelter is closed, the animals have no food and water. When I stopped my car, I was immediately surrounded by half a dozen friendly dogs - Labs, Australian Shepherds, Dachshunds - who have been abandoned by their owners and now are looking for help since seven days now!!!
I took two of the most serious injured to the Humane Society shelter in Gulfport, but they are already at capacity.
I will bring a trunk full of dog and cat food and water tomorrow early morning into Waveland again and will try to help those pets as good as I can. But I`m basically on my own.
I intend to bring out two more injured dogs/cats on my way back to Mobile.
Is there ANYONE in Mobile or surroundings willing to take one or two and foster them back to health? I will even bring them to Mobile.
I'm from Phoenix and have to return Friday.
I cannot understand why NO rescue organization is present down there.
If you have a pet that is lost or left in New Orleans and want to get
it
out, the number to call is (225) 578-6111. The SPCA is going in to
get your
pets for you. They are being helped by the police and are going in
to save
your pets. Please pass this number out to anyone you know who is
looking
for their pet(s). (225) 578-6111
Laura's cell number is: (225) 413-8813 if you want to talk to her
directly.

Columbus
in SC there is a major road out here where I live and 5 stations are out...Two Notch Road...plus the cheapest we have is 2.99 for regular...
I am near Valdosta, Ga.
I have yet to see any stations out of gas - but the prices are up to around 3.50/gal.
Cindy
Thanks to Barb for this report on SC
Gas is somewhere between $2.65 ish - like Costco - to $3.19 elsewhere. There might be a dry pump here and there, but no closed stations. On the news they said the two pipelines that feed Greenville, SC and subsequently us, were out of commission for a couple of days but are partially repaired and running at 25% capacity.
The governor says the decreased capacity will last for a couple of weeks to a month at most. He was urging people not to hoard gas, which we saw on the news with pickups with a dozen or more gas cans in the back or keep topping off everyday. He said if we drove conservatively and didn't make unnecessary trips, limited holiday travel plans, and stayed calm, this should be over pretty quickly.
So the same pipeline also feeds into Virginia. Depends on what type of stocks they have up in those areas.
There are no long lines here. Maybe 3 cars at a pump, but there's usually at least one waiting in the station they were filming at during the 6 pm drive time and that one usually has the lowest price on that miracle mile stretch of road. I didn't notice any undue lines or heavy activity anywhere else in my travels today. Last night folks were trying to fill up ahead of the price hike so it was steady busy, but not a big deal. It's certainly not like it is when we're getting ready to evacuate here or anything resembling what we experienced in NJ in 1979.
They have suspended some of the regulations governing long haul truckers to make it easier for gas to get here quicker...longer drive times, no weight restrictions, etc. Price gouging can only be charged when there is a state of emergency declared. We don't have that here. Mostly it's radio stations embarrassing stations that are trying to be greedy. People are concerned about it, but things were humming along as usual today. Maybe at 11 pm they'll have checked out the surrounding areas.
Eileen - Here is a lot of info on relief for the animals, shelters and stuff. It was posted to my CA rescue groups but I didnt see it on PMR yet.

Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams (VMAT)
Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams (VMAT), established by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and funded primarily by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF), are working as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) to care for injured animals, as well as provide advice concerning public health issues.
As Katrina neared landfall, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) deployed two fully-staffed VMAT teams, VMAT-3 led by Dr. James Hamilton and VMAT-5 led by Dr. Garry Goemann, and stationed a separate
disaster assessment team in Houston,Texas with VMAT representative, Dr. Barry Kellogg, VMAT-1 Deputy Team Commander. Twenty-five VMAT members are on the ground in Anniston, Alabama, while another 22 members are making their way from Memphis, Tennessee to New Orleans ready to assist the local veterinary community with animal victims as soon as it is safe to do so. VMAT personnel consist of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, scientists, epidemiologists, toxicologists, pathologists, pharmacists and other support personnel trained to assist the local veterinary communities provide medical care to injured animals, help coordinate animal relief efforts on site, and address public health issues.
Since 1994, VMAT teams have been deployed to both natural and manmade disasters such as Hurricane Floyd and the September 11th tragedy, to assist in the delivery of medical help to injured animals and to provide public health advice.
A significant amount of funding for the Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams comes from the AVMF. Individuals wishing to support VMAT in their disaster relief efforts may make an online donation on AVMF's secure website, www.avmf.org or send a contribution to:

For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with the extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings: they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth." ~ "The Outermost House" - Henry Beston Author (1888-1968)
Could I suggest that you use the commonly accepted version of a request for transport, one that gives us the basic information about who you are, where you are, and the important information on the animals to be transported ?
Responsible transporters will not participate in a run unless these things are known. Its not safe for the animals. People have to know that they are sending animals into a better situation than they left and that a run will give them an opportunity to receive the veterinary care, a carefully screened home and a rescue that will be there for them for life. The name of your group, your city and state and your website url gives them a means to take a look at who you are.
"A lot of puppies" ? You really need to be specific about how many, what ages and sizes and breeds, etc. A driver can't possibly know if they can help or not without that information.
Below is a standard Transport Needed post format.
