Please note the following:
LACBC Spring Bird Fair is to be held in Brainerd at the National Guard
Armory on Sunday, April 27th, 2008. Doors will be open from 10-4 this
year.
Sorry for the mispost, it is the last Sunday in April.
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to say that I am sorry I haven't kept up on this board
as much as I had hoped, with school nearing the end and work picking
up, kids growing, family illness, and everything else going on, it
has been one long winter, but spring is coming!
Our upcoming bird fair is Sunday, April 29th 2008 at the National
Guard Armory in Brainerd, 1115 Wright Street, 56401, from 10-4 for
guests. Now on our 3rd year, we have grown considerably in the
community and have a number of new vendors with birds, cages, seed,
and supplies at the fairs. LACBC holds 2 yearly, one on the last
Sunday in April and one on the last Sunday in October.
We are toying with the idea of having a "show" instead of a fair in
October over the next couple of years, but nothing has been set yet.
Vendors come from the Metro area, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa,
and occasionally Wisconsin, along with our hometown people up here
in Minnesota.
Thanks to Wrobels, our LACBC news letter goes out frequently to keep
everyone up to date on upcoming events.
We will be visiting Crosby/Ironton school in April before the bird
fair and plan to have a toy-making day in May. We also have been
talking about hosting a parrot behavior seminar for late summer and
would like input on this topic.
Best wishes and happy spring to all!
Don't miss the Minnesota Companion Bird Association's annual Parrots in
the Park picnic on 9/9/07 from noon to 4:00pm! The Como Park location
is convenient and so much fun! Lunch will be served from 1:00pm to
3:00pm and it will include chick breasts and/or a hot dog, buns, chips,
a beverage, and dessert. We encourage those who want to bring a dish to
share, such a salad, desserts, or snack items, to do so. For maps to
the event and more information please visit the clubs website at
http://mnbird.org/2007como.htm.
Thank you!
Kim Miller

Bird Behavior Workshop, Sat Sept 22 2007 presented by Barbara
Heidenreich of Good Bird Inc, hosted by Minnesota Companion Bird
Association.
Barbara Heidenreich teaches you how to interact with your pet bird
and train your pet bird using positive reinforcement. Here is quote
from her website, "Good Bird ® Inc. was designed primarily to address
the growing interest in positive reinforcement training with parrots.
It is so very exciting to see the changes that have been occurring in
the area of companion animal behavior. We have watched dog training
change dramatically as more and more people are discovering the sheer
joy of training with positive reinforcement. Even more thrilling for
us is to see this same process occurring in the world of companion
parrots."
Location: 8am to 4pm at the St Paul Sheet Metal Workers Association
located at 1681 East Cope Ave, Maplewood, MN. Birds permitted with
prior approval and health certificate.
Cost: MCBA member price of $55 and $35 for each additional person

We have our February bird club meeting coming up next Thursday, Feb.
15th at 7:00. Doors should be open to the room at the library at 6:30.
We have the big meeting room out front, so plenty of room! Join us!
We will be discussing the Expo, future plans for the Bird Fair in
April, and plans for the spring and summer. We have some new members
in the Brainerd area so come get acquainted!
This Sunday is the Bird Expo in Brainerd at the Northland Arboretum.
We have the building from 12-5 but doors are open for the public from
1-4. We have macaws, sun, Indian Ring neck, senegal, lovebirds, green
cheeks, an umbrella too, some society finches, possibly gouldians,
tiels, a handfeeding info display and an incubation display. If you
have any personable pets that you would like to bring, please let me
know and bring them! I am hoping for an alexandrine and some english
budgies too.
One member has the DVD Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill...we plan to
have this running. We also will have coffee available for everyone and
pop for sale. We may have some baked goods for sale as well...anyone
interested in helping furnish baked goods/drinks, please let me know!
We had a great time visiting schools! It was an awesome day! We passed
out over 650 fliers to children/teachers and had a great response.
Crosby/Ironton even invited us back for a full day of sharing the
birds with all classes. It was great to see so many children
interested in birds! We have a new family in the Brainerd area with
some large and small birds and they have a son that is very interested
in visiting the club and learning! Cathy and Jon brought an umbrella
too and a blue and gold to visit the schools. Barbie and Kelli brought
their macaws as well and shared tricks, stories, and info about them.
They did a fantastic job and the kids really related to them! Bob and
Char helped get things started. Char still teaches occasionally for
St. Francis so she introduced the bird club and the birds to the kids
to get things started. THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR EFFORT! YOU DID
VERY WELL!
