I have a friend who lost her lorikeet after many years.

She sent me home a bunch of lory pellets and nectar powder to see if I
could find anyone who could use it.

If you can, let me know and you can have it. It is Pretty Bird lory
pellets and Roudybush nectar powder.

I live in Brainerd so must be picked up here.

Thanks

This Sunday is the Bird Expo in Brainerd at the Northland Arboretum.
We have the building from 12-5 but doors are open for the public from
1-4. We have macaws, sun, Indian Ring neck, senegal, lovebirds, green
cheeks, an umbrella too, some society finches, possibly gouldians,
tiels, a handfeeding info display and an incubation display. If you
have any personable pets that you would like to bring, please let me
know and bring them! I am hoping for an alexandrine and some english
budgies too.
One member has the DVD Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill...we plan to
have this running. We also will have coffee available for everyone and
pop for sale. We may have some baked goods for sale as well...anyone
interested in helping furnish baked goods/drinks, please let me know!

We had a great time visiting schools! It was an awesome day! We passed
out over 650 fliers to children/teachers and had a great response.
Crosby/Ironton even invited us back for a full day of sharing the
birds with all classes. It was great to see so many children
interested in birds! We have a new family in the Brainerd area with
some large and small birds and they have a son that is very interested
in visiting the club and learning! Cathy and Jon brought an umbrella
too and a blue and gold to visit the schools. Barbie and Kelli brought
their macaws as well and shared tricks, stories, and info about them.
They did a fantastic job and the kids really related to them! Bob and
Char helped get things started. Char still teaches occasionally for
St. Francis so she introduced the bird club and the birds to the kids
to get things started. THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR EFFORT! YOU DID
VERY WELL!

Hello everyone.
We have lots to catch up on...
At the Dec 14th meeting (for those of you that were missing...)
We decided to visit the Brainerd Area elementary and high schools in
January.
We booked the Arboretum for SUNDAY, FEB 11, 2007, for the Bird Expo.
This is a free event to the public and we will be promoting this event
when visiting the schools in the area.
It seems the Nordic Ski team and girl scouts were both having issues
with dates as there had been no snow, so the next open weekend was in Feb.
If anyone has friendly parrots to bring on Feb 11 to visit with
people, please let me know!
We paid for the building, lets make it worth the community's time to
visit us!

We will be meeting again on Thursday, February 15th at 6:30, Meeting
at 7:00. We have the large meeting room in the library confirmed.
We will be going over the final plans for the bird fair in April.

Questions-please ask!

Hi, I just got approved as a member of the group today.  Here is a copy of the article.  I'm not sure when it will be in the MCBA's newsletter:

Minnesota now has another bird club for the bird loving citizens of our great state!  The Lakes Area Caged Bird Club (LACBC) is a bird club based out of Brainerd, Minnesota and started in October 2005 by Bob & Kelly Jones, Dennis & Kari Summers, Bob & Char Wrobel, & Jan Folland.  According to Kelly Jones the club was founded with several different goals in mind:

  1. Education: The first goal of the LACBC is to help educate the general public & club members about responsible pet bird ownership.

  1. Communication: The second goal of the LACBC is to provide a communications network for pet bird owners in northern & central Minnesota.   They do this by having bi-monthly meetings, offering an email group for club members, & by hosting events such as bird fairs and educational programs.

  1. Connection: The third goal of the LACBC is to help pet bird owners in northern & central Minnesota connect with one another.  Meeting other “bird people” is vital to being a good pet bird owner because you never know when you might need the help & support of other bird-loving people in your area.

The LACBC currently does not charge any membership fees and is constantly looking for new club members!  The club’s website is http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/LACBCMN/.  For additional information about the LACBC, please visit the club’s website or contact Kelly Jones at kellyjon@....

Hello everyone! We had a meeting at the Library last night. We
discussed the bird fair/results, had a few new faces, discussed the
upcoming Parrot Expo in the Lakes Area...at the arboretum, in
January. We would like to make it the second weekend in January,
providing the Arboretum is available.
This will be an event to BRING YOUR BIRD TO. We will open the door
to the general public as a free event. We are targeting the youth,
mostly ages 16 and younger. Fliers will be sent out to children in
schools around the Lakes area. We will provide a press release in
the Brainerd Dispatch, and we will be passing out fliers again at
pet stores and places that may draw children.
We would like "Touchable" birds for this event, but large,
untouchable birds are fine. We have a few people that have
volunteered some handfed baby birds for this event as well. If you
have birds to bring, please let me know. Also, if you bring a larger
bird, you will need a stand appropriate for this event. We have some
and know of some we can borrow, so if you need a stand provided,
please let us know also.

We also discussed the upcoming bird fair in the spring. We decided
on the 3rd or 4th Sunday in April. I have to check dates with the
armory first, but we would like it the 3rd Sunday as this should not
affect any other event in the Lakes area.
It was suggested that we bring a speaker for a time during the next
bird fair. One of the ladies at the meeting last night
suggested "Parrot Behavior" as a topic. If anyone knows of a good,
fairly local speaker on this topic, please let me know!

QUESTION out to everyone...
Would you all think it beneficial to have a booth at the county
fair, 2007?

Thanks for reading!

Hey, I see we have a few new members today! Welcome!
I need some input...what would you like to see posted here? Bird
species info, care, etc.

Major topics coming up...we have a LACBC meeting scheduled for
Thursday evening, August 17th at 6:30, meeting to start at 7:00. We
are going to be discussing Indian Ringnecks, colors, care, caging,
availability, etc.
Any ideas?
We also have the bird fair coming in October! We have confirmed the
Minnesota 4-H organization suppling the food and staff for the kitchen.
We currently have vendors from across MN confirmed for toys, birds
large and small, some smaller cages, food/seed, and nesting supplies.
We also have interest from other bird clubs and a rescue to be a
vendor. Great info!
If you have questions, please send an email to LACBCMN@yahoogroups.com
and ask!

Hello,
I'm glad to be invited to this group....I'm from Crookston, MN and
have a deep love for birds.
     I have 2 male 2 month old lutino/pied cockatiels and 2 female 6
month old pearl cockatiels and on August 1st I'm getting a male and
female (not sure what mutation)6 yr. old cockatiels.
I have been wanting to start a rescue or a foster home for birds
in my area and I think I'm almost ready to start posting the flyers in
the pet stores and everywhere I can think of to get the word out.
Well, I'm stumped on what more to say here so I will just say I'm
glad to be part of this new group!!

Robbie
