Why a Linda Glass Memorial?

There's such a thing called ‘the January thaw': the season when snow melts, ice thins and there’s a hint of spring in the air. Hal Borland provided perhaps the best description of this magical time when he wrote: “The January thaw is special because it opens Winter’s door a crack just when it seems that the ice has locked it tight”.

For the blind dog, that 'January thaw’ came on January 15th, 2002: the date of Linda’s passing.

Through her creation of BlindDogs.com, Linda opened the door to opportunities rarely been available to the owner of a blind dog. Pet owners were suddenly part of a fellowship – able to share their fears and tears – their hopes and despairs, and the knowledge and ‘expertise’ from other owners of other blind pups. A Message Board invited all to share current issues and helpful hints. Through her site and message board, Linda made the very best out of the horrific fears she lived daily for Tyler, her beautiful ebony Miniature Schnauzer ‘baby’, whom she described as "My little dog; a heartbeat at my feet".

After being diagnosed with Diabetes (and then misdiagnosed with Cushing’s Disease) Tyler fell victim to cataracts and lost his sight. Through Tyler’s journey of years of tests, administration of medications, and adaptations to changes, Linda was there offering compassion and encouragement while she suffered with a rare form of muscular dystrophy.
