pair 1 were disturbed by young, so the eggs werent incubated properly.
now i have seperated young from pairs and housed them together and
split rung them.
the pairs have been placed in a large flight along with 2 other pairs
and 2 new pairs, who were previously in the flight have now been paired
up seperate to see how they produce, fingers crossed.
pairs 3 & 4 have been housed together and have access to nestsites, so
can breed if they feel comfortable.
ive done this to see if they re-pair or feel more settled in larger
group.
Cheers
Dave
hi all,
well the older proven pair have gone to nest and i think on 4 eggs,
will keep an eye on them as didnt seem to sit tight in a cage.
time will tell i suppose if things are going to happen.
Cheers
Dave
hi all,
to bring this thread uptodate
ive been away last week, so i apologise for delay.
the pair who nested in flight, abandoned so i fostered as couple were
full but sadly to no avail and the eggs have since been removed.
Was planning to shuffle the pairs around after my time away but pair 1
have a new nest of 4 eggs, will see what happens with it.
pair 2 on the other hand have stopped, so they shall be moving soon.
Cheers
Dave
hi all,
well all chicks in both nests have fledged now
nest 1 - defo 3 cinnamons and 2 dilutes
nest 2 - a right mixed bag and proves cock bird is split for dilute
i got - 1 cinnamon, 1 normal split, 1 chocolate and 2 dilutes.
will try to add pictures if possible at some point
have found a new nest in flight housing 2 pairs of silverbills
e.g cinnamon x cinnamon and chocolate x dilute
Cheers
Dave
hi all,
update
pair 1's first round chicks have fledged :)
and now can tell definately what colours they are.
3 cinnamons & 2 dilutes :) with the dilutes definately split chocolate,
so will be able to produce cinnamons.
pair 2 not far behind and look 2 chocolates and 3 isabels but not 100%
sure just yet
Cheers
Dave
hi john,
i hadnt considered this but after seeing you post this i have created
something i think will work!
if you go to DATABASE
all members can add records to my board ive created
basically
you list
Member name
Date
Birds for sale
Birds for exchange
Birds wanted
Birds to loan
you dont have to add all headings if you dont need too
but with it being dated - ill set a time limit or ill at least
contact member to ask if they need it to stay or it to be removed but
can i request if you put a for sale or wanted up and its no longer
needed please delete it
Hope that helps
Cheers
Dave
hi all,
newest update!
pair 1 = 5 chicks all doing great, got a coupke of new pictures today
which ill upload when i get chance - all getting alot of feathering
and thinking all cinnamons :O which is a surprise if they are.
pair 2 = eventually hatched 5 chicks, so full house again :)
this pair have 2 different colours in the chicks
2 hatched with dark skin and darker eyes
3 hatched with light skin and purplish eyes
so thinking either most likely - 2 normals, 3 chocolates but possible
2 chocolates and 3 dilutes maybe.
have a few pictures through development and you'll see one chick alot
behind others but being fed well.
pairs 3,4,5 & 6 - still not alot changed but once these 2 pairs have
finished will switch pairs around as they are in top cages at min.
cheers
Dave
hi all,

so fingers crossed we get increased activity
Cheers

may i welcome our newest member

hi all,
i have 3 pairs remaining now
1 pair - both 2005 bred birds
2 pairs are 2006 bred birds
i have all these housed together at present, once my setup is organised
will split them up possibly into double breeders each and see what
happens.
may part with this species at somepoint
so if anyone is interested in exchange for my 3 pairs let me know
Cheers
Dave
hi all,
i have 3 at present - would like to build upto 4pairs at least
the 3 i have so far are 2 cocks and 1 hen.
will be going into large caging once its ready for them, any opinions
welcome on if i should split spare cock or leave as trio appreciated?
Cheers
Dave
hi all,
currently i have 1 pair of these - couple year old pair
have them in a single breeder with built in box and a small wicker nest
at present.
they have gone through motions and built a nest in the wicker nest but
choose to roost on the ledge to the built in box.
not done much more than this
am hoping to put them in one of my newer large cages once completed to
hope they settle better
they readily take livefood
any tips on what i could do to get them breeding would be appreciated.
Cheers
Dave
ok so whats been going on the last few weeks -
well
pair 1 = 5 eggs - all turned out full - which have hatched 4 chicks
out of 5 so far over the last couple of days.
pair 2 = are sitting 5 eggs - all are full - so fingers crossed a
full hatch within the next week as about 6-7days behind the first
pair.
pair 3 & 4 are playing about with there nests adding nesting material
but not much else yet, but plenty of time so fingers crossed.
pair 5 & 6 - are housed alltogether cocks are too young for breeding
yet, although hens are a year old. will try them later in the season
all being well.
pair 7&8 - have been making nests in flight but nothing else, mainly
outside to keep them fit so if they nest too will be a bonus.
thats all for now and will update image gallery with pictures of
chicks when i can - will put a note on them e.g. pair 1's chick
27.7.08 etc on them :)
cheers

hi all,
currently i have 8 pairs of african silverbills mainly mutations e.g.
cinnamon, dilute and chocolate plus a couple of normals.
my pairs are as such - will put what i should produce next to them.
pair 1 - cinnamon cock x dilute split chocolate hen = cinnamon and
dilute split chocolate chicks.
pair 2 - chocolate cock x dilute split chocolate hen = chocolate
split dilutes, normals split chocolate & dilute chicks.
pair 3 - cinnamon cock x dilute split chocolate hen = cinnamon and
dilute split chocolate chicks.
pair 4 - dilute cock x dilute split chocolate hen = all dilutes and
50% split chocolate chicks.
pair 5 & 6 - normal split chocolate & dilute cocks x dilute split
chocolate hens = normals, chocs, dilutes and possibly odd cinnamon
chicks.
pair 7 & 8 - these are running as a 4 some in a flight at present -
father & son - chocolate split dilute cock & cinnamon cock and the
hens are cinnamon and a dilute - so possibility of cinnamons,
dilutes, chocolates and normal splits from these 4 dependant on
pairings. will try in caging afer other pairs have had a round each.
Will do a diary in seperate post and put them down as pair 1 has such
and such eggs and have hatched so many chicks, so flick back to this
post for information on the pairing.
Cheers
Dave
hi all,
i have now 1 pair of pallid munias - did have another cock but sadly
lost him couple months back, probably due to there age as all imports.
the pair have nested twice this season
first round 3 eggs - 1 full, 2 clear - when chick hatched they killed
the chick sadly
second round same again - 3eggs - 1 got broken and fostered other 2
not wanting to risk any possible chicks being killed again, which in
a way was a good thing as switched with bengalese eggs and she
stopped sitting after about a week anyway.
sadly as yet the 2 eggs fostered look clear, will keep an eye on them
and do same with any other eggs they should produce to try and get my
numbers up.
Cheers
Dave
p.s - anyone keeping this species or know anyone with odd specimens
or breeding them please get in touch as would like more birds to add
to my group.
Added another blackheaded nun to my collection, unknown age and sexe
at present but now housed with 06 cock bird i had spare, so fingers
crossed it will be a hen.
but knowing my luck will be another cock.
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave have you sorting out getting an advert in cage and aviary birds
yet?
When I get a bit more time I'll post a load of photos of chicks and
adult birds. Hopefully this will be the start of a good database of
photos too.
When you get a chance can you put some photos on here of your lonchura?
