All,
Please read below and let Beckham know if you know this dog.

Alex

Neighbors,
We need your help in locating a dog that bit someone last Thursday at the
Masterson Station Dog Park. If you have any information or even think you
might, please contact Mr. Sullivan. If he is unable to locate the dog, he
will have to undergo a series of rabies shots. He just needs proof that the
dog is vacinated.

Thanks
Jeff

Subject: Dog Bite

My name is Beckham Wayne Sullivan at 859-619-8130 and I take my dog to the
Masterson Station Dog several times a week. I was there on Thursday evening,
8/13/09 with my dog and I was leaving, I was bitten by another dog "Stark",
who was leaving with his owner, "Ave" (not sure of the spelling), from
Nepal. I didn't realize it was a bite at first; I thought I had been struck
by the other dog with his paw or nose. The bite was behind the knee and when
I felt, my hand did not have any blood on it. It was not until I got into my
car that I noticed blood trickling down my leg. I went to the ER, where the
MD confirmed that it was a bite and I am now facing the series of rabies
vaccines unless we are able to locate the dog and his owner. I had sat on a
bench and conversed with the owner earlier and he also had another dog,
"Pepper". He said that he lived in the Masterson Station community with his
brother, who works at Amazon.com.
If you have any information about locating the owner or dog, please contact
me immediately. Thank you in advance for any information.

WOW! It is almost that time again! DOG PADDLE TIME!!! How exciting!

Once again, we're in need of volunteers to help at the Dog Paddle. The time is
9AM-3PM at Woodland Aquatic center.

Volunteers will receive a free Friends of the Dog Park t-shirt (to wear at the
event) and a paid admission for one dog. However, we ask that you bring your dog
before or after your volunteer time, unless you have someone that can watch your
dog for you while you're working.

The times will be in 2 hour increments, beginning half hour before the event.

   Here is the event information
   DATE: Saturday, September 12, 2009
Rain date, Sunday, September 13, 2009

The jobs we need covered will range from
   1. Checking rabies tags for validation.
   2. Placing the zipcords (used to show payment) on the dogs collars.
   3. Sitting at a "waiver" table, where all participants must sign in before
entering.
   4. Policing the EXIT gate, so there are no escapes!
   5. Helping to monitor the pool area, watching mostly...possibly helping to
keep people out of the pool.
Also, we ask for help in making sure dog owners pick up their dog's waste.

We have steadily had around 700 dogs participate through out the day. We
really could
use your help! However, please only agree of you are sure you can help. It's a
lot of
work, but it's also a LOT of fun!

Thank you for your interest. If you have any questions or concerns, please
feel free to ask. If you know someone that may be interested in helping,
please forward this email to them!

    Shannon Hutchinson
Treasurer, Friends of the Dog Park, Inc.

Friends of the Dog Park would like to invite everyone out to Lexington's 2nd
Sunday Celebration on October 12th, from 2-6pm.

What is 2nd Sunday?
Well, Lexington is joining over 60 counties across the state of Kentucky who are
closing roadways to cars so that we can be active, fit and have fun on our own
two feet (or two wheels!). No state has ever done anything like this before so
don¢t miss out! To learn more about the state effort, visit www.2ndSundayKY.com

How do you participate?
Walk or bike down to Limestone Street and enjoy the wide open, quiet streets.
You can start at any point along the route.
Each time you complete one loop along the course you¢ll earn a chance to win a
free bike donated by Pedal the Planet bike shop. Free tune-ups from Schellers
Fitness & Cycling and Pedal Power will also be raffled to participants.

And don't forget to include your dog!
Friends of the Dog Park will be hosting a free Bone Hunt on the Upper Courthouse
Plaza at 4:00pm. We will have information on Lexington's dog parks available, as
well as a watering station for the dogs.

There will also be many more fun activities along the course. Click here for
more info: http://www.lfucg.com/2ndSunday/

YAY! I've been waiting for this one to open :-) I took 2 client dogs
and my malinois out today and we met a heeler mix, a goldendoodle and
a hounddog. Much fun, but, while the heeler mix and hounddog's people
and I were taking a lap around the park we discovered a strange, thick
wire sticking up from the ground. It was impervious to our efforts to
remove it and none of us had the bright idea to tie a poo bag around
it to mark it until we were back up by the gate and when I went back
to do so I couldn't find it again...of course. It's on th end
opposite of the gate quite near the orange temporary fencing. It
looked like a dog could really injure themselves on it. I didn't know
whether to post something here about it or do I need to alert parks
and rec or what?

Barrie,
No one is standing at the gate checking tags. It would be best if the
dogs are wearing their rabies tags. Their owners should do that anyway.
You might try to take just a few dogs at a time to figure out how to handle
them. You might also look at the dog park at Coldstream Park. I don't
think it sees as much traffic as Masterson, but midday MAsterson should be
fairly quiet.

Hi, I am a local pet sitter/dog walker and was thinking of taking some
of my charges out to the Masterson dog park at some point along with
my own dogs. Everyone is UTD on shots but I don't have handy proof on
some charges. How likely is it that we'll be asked to show proof of

Also, as someone who doesn't use the dog park system, how much problem
would it be to show up with 3 exceptionally well-socialized,
well-mannered dogs, 1 exceptionally well-socialized, very well
trained, very high drive ball fiend (with a supply of tennis balls

is not at all hazardous all at once? These dogs all play together
almost every single day. I would be going in the middle of the day on

Hello,

I'm a volunteer with the Lexington Humane Society, and I am
currently fostering a female adult German Shepherd (about 2+ years
old). Both she and her sister came in as owner give ups, and from
the way they act they were in abusive situations. Callie, our
foster, is an incredibly sweet dog. She's crate trained and house
trained (although she could use with some obedience: down, sit, etc)
and gets along well with our great dane, chow, yorkie, and cat.
Callie gets very scared and upset when on the adoption floor in her
kennel, backing herself into a corner and whimpering. If someone
tries to put a leash on her in that situation she tends to start
shrieking (I call it her banshee scream). She also did this at our
house for the first two days she was there, but then stopped.

I am contacting you in the hopes that you or someone you know would
have room for Callie and her sister in your lives. I would be happy
to bring the dogs out for you to meet and evaluate yourself. I
would love to keep Callie for myself, however, we live in a rental
home and our landlords have set the limit on dogs at 3. Please let
me know if you or someone you know might have room in for her.

Thanks!

Join us on our mission to raise money to purchase bullet proof /
stab proof vests for our unprotected K9 officers!

On April 29, 2008, we will join hundreds of others to help end the
misfortune facing Fayette County's K-9 unit with the K-9 Vests for
Life Golf Scramble Charity Event. The Fayette County K-9 unit
consists of 9 narcotics and patrol canines, and only one has a
bullet and stab-proof vest. It is imperative to the dogs, our police
officers, and our citizens that each of the 9 canines has a vest.
Each vest costs over $1,000.00, and by making a contribution you are
helping to protect our community and the life of a canine who risks
his life daily for our safety.

Fayette County Canines are trained to track not only criminals but
missing elderly individuals and lost children. They can search for
articles used in crimes and for criminals that pose a threat to
police officers or other persons if not immediately stopped. In
criminal apprehension the canines are trained to bite and hold the
suspect until they can be taken into custody.

Our ultimate goal is to raise at least $8,000.00 this year, which
will furnish each of the Fayette County canines with a bullet and
stab-proof vest. We have many ways you can help from sponsorships to
donations, or even participating in the golf scramble!

Please visit

WOW! It is almost that time again! DOG PADDLE TIME!!! Can you believe this will
be our 6th year?! How exciting!

Once again, we're in need of volunteers to help at the Dog Paddle. The time has
not been finalized yet, however we expect it to be like last year, 9AM-3PM.

DATE: Saturday, September 8, 2007
Rain date, Sunday, September 9, 2007

The jobs we need covered will range from
1. Checking rabies tags for validation.
2. Placing the zipcords (used to show payment) on the dogs collars.
3. Sitting at a "waiver" table, where all participants must sign in before
entering.
4. Policing the EXIT gate, so there are no escapes!
5. Helping to monitor the pool area, watching mostly...possibly helping to keep
people out of the pool.

We have steadily had around 700 dogs participate through out the day. We really
could
use your help! However, please only agree of you are sure you can help. It's a
lot of
work, but it's also a LOT of fun!

Thank you for your interest. If you have any questions or concerns, please
feel free to ask.

Hello everyone!

As some of you may already know, the Annual Bone Hunt is June 9th at Masterson
Station Park. We're in need of just a few volunteers for this event.
Registration begins at 10:15am, so we would like volunteers to be there around
9:30am. It does not last very long, but can get a little chaotic! But then
again, what involving fun for dogs doesn't! Jobs would be simple; helping to
register (getting dog owners to sign waivers), scattering bones in the field,
and handing out prizes.

We just need a few, so if you're interested, please email us at
info@....

If you have any questions about the event, please see our web page or contact
the email above. www.friendsofthedogpark.org

Thank you and hope to see everyone there!
Shannon

To all IN LEXINGTON on email lists.

Please accept our apologies for the email lists getting out of hand with spam. We were trying to correct the problem. What I've decided to do is start new yahoo groups, and will invite you to those individually through your yahoo ID's that are listed with the current group. I will try to keep similar names, such as ColdstreamDogParkLexington or something.

We hate to loose anyone on the list, as we use these to spread the word of happenings at the Lexington Dog parks. I appreciate your patience with this matter. I will attempt to get this project done by the end of February.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly shan4uk2002@....

Thank you,
