To all IN LEXINGTON on email lists.

Please accept our apologies for the email lists getting out of hand with spam. We were trying to correct the problem. What I've decided to do is start new yahoo groups, and will invite you to those individually through your yahoo ID's that are listed with the current group. I will try to keep similar names, such as ColdstreamDogParkLexington or something.

We hate to loose anyone on the list, as we use these to spread the word of happenings at the Lexington Dog parks. I appreciate your patience with this matter. I will attempt to get this project done by the end of February.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly shan4uk2002@....

Thank you,

Ok everyone, I don't usually forward, but you me when it comes to 4-legged kids with big brown eyes. A friend sent me this information. Owner of the dogs below has terminal cancer and has become too ill to care for the dogs. From what I read in the chain of emails sent to me is that they are 4-years old, brothers.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in taking BOTH of them, please email me, and I will put you in touch with the person the original email came from. As far as I know, these dogs are in Lexington.

Thanks
Shannon

I think Masterson is probably the most used at this point. Coldstream is very new, and I could see it getting more used next Spring hopefully. I know we have an email list for that park also, so, you might find out when some of the regulars go out. Jacobson, though needing work, still gets used a lot too. It has a good location and regulars that have gone there for a long time.

As far as the papers/tags are concerned...their not checked by anyone, unless animal control decides to show up and check tags...but I've been going to the dog parks for about 7 years, and that has only happened once a long time ago. And, also, if your dog(s) should happen to get into a scuffle, the other dog owner may just ask if they've had their shots to make sure. Again...I've personally never seen this happen..but I've been fortunate to not see any major scuffles.

Yes, I'll take my papers with me. But if someone
challenges me, I hope they are somewhat educated
or very trusting! The document is titled:

VACCINAZIONE CONTRO LA RABBIA

I think I could convince most that's
"Vaccination against the Rabies" in Italian.

More challenging is the date on the document:

Data Effettuata: 11/9/06

The shots were given November 9, 2006???
It's only October!

Hopefully they'll believe me when I tell them
Europeans write dates dd/mm/yy instead of
mm/dd/yy, and so 11/9/06 means Sept. 11, 2006.
Of course by mid-November, that won't be a problem.

I'm sure all Lexington Police officers are familiar with
Italian and European writing!

At this point I don't really expect to be challenged
anyway.

Which of the three dog parks is most used?? I
went to Cold Stream, which I think is the new one,
and only one other dog was there (it was a bit late
on THU).

That does sound like a challenge, but don't worry about it. Most people are
very nice so long as your dog doesn't try to attach their dogs for no good
reason. Being puppies, I should think it will be the other way around. Good
luck.

I went to the Masterson Station dog park on Leestown Road. I lived in
Masterson Station so it was nice. To get there from New Circle Rd, take EXIT
7, Leestown Rd and turn AWAY from downtown, as if you are going to
Frankfort. It's about 1 mile on the right. I think you will go through 3
stop lights and then it is the fourth light. I could be wrong on the lights,
but its somewhere around there.

Have fun

Hi,
I have moved from the LExington area, but would like to say the park at
MAsterson Station dog park is great. The dogs that go are very friendly, as
are their owners. I have to comment on your question just to say that if you
have the papers available while you are at the park, there should be no
reason for tags. If a concerned owner would like to see your papers to prove
your dogs are vaccinated, then whip them out.

Have fun!

Thanks for the responses!

I took my poodle to Coldstream today. Originally I thought the
metal "tags" were required to enter, and that someone would be
there checking....I found out differently.

My Volpinos have had their shots in Italy, and will get whatever
else they need for the USA when they arrive. We live in Georgetown,
but I'm sure ordinances are similar to Fayette.

If the Volpinos teach my poodle to bark in Italian, I'll let you
know!

Yes, Volpinos are similar to Eskimo Dogs....so similar (on paper)
that the AKC, even their FSS for rare breeds, refuses to recognize
them (ironically all foreign dog registries, which do list
Volpinos, do not recognize Amer. Eskies because they are too close!)

The main differences are
- size: Eskies are larger, though they've been bred down to toys
in recent decades; Volpinos are 8-12 pounds and 10-12" in height
and supposedly have been for 2,000 years.
- color: All Eskies are white; Volpinos can be solid white,
solid red or solid champagne
- age: Eskies developed in the USA over the past 125 years,
Volpinos have been around since pre-historic times (they are
listed in the PRIMITIVE group in Europe).
- temperment: Eskies tend to be very "laid back" and "cool";
Volpinos have a very strong guard-dog instinct and always
want to be the center of attention...a little more "head strong"
and "primitive dog" psychology. Most Italian breeders list
their "psychology" as their most unique attribute.

In my opinion, the face of an Eskie looks more "wolf like"
(snout rounder on the end and thicker) while a Volpino looks
more "fox like" (sharper, thinner snout). "Volpino" means
"little fox" in Italian....it describes their look and their
personality.

Actually most Americans mistake them for Pomeranians. They
are the primary ancestor breed of the Pom and are believed
to be one ancestor of the Eskies, along with their close
cousins the German Spitz.

Probably more than you wanted to know! If interested in
learning more, visit www.VolpinoClub.us!

Hello Kevin,

The dog park is part of the park system and is on property managed by the
county, so it falls under the laws of the LFUCG regulations. The park has
it's own rules based pretty much on doggie common sense and they are posted
at the gates to the dog park areas. I don't have them in front of me but you
can probably guess that a "current" rabies vaccination is part of the rules.
Otherwise I think it is up to the individual caretaker of the dog with their
vet, to decide what is best in terms of vaccinations.

Other than rabies vaccination tags, "tags" would probably refer to the urban
county government's requirement for licensing, which I think applies to dogs
who "reside" in the county. I don't think the park requires them, and I have
never seen anybody checking, but that doesn't mean that it does not or won't
ever happen. To be on the safe side I would at least carry some form of
proof of current rabies vaccination when venturing out into public places
with your dog if you don't have a rabies tag and are otherwise "legal". If
your dogs reside in Fayette county you might want to look into the ordinance
regarding licensing.

Great to see another rare breed in the area, I have Bilal, an Azawakh, and
we have been out to the park a few times this year. Your breed looks much
like Am. Eskimo and some other Spitz types but I am sure there are
distinguishing features that I can't pick up on from simply viewing a few
internet pictures.

Maybe I will see you out there,

Sean Foley

Hello all,

I haven't been to the dog parks yet, but I plan to go soon.

I am importing two dogs (rare breed: Volpino Italiano) from
Italy. They had their shots in Italy, and I have the vet

Can I bring these to the dog park?

Hello dog park friends!

The FDP Board wanted to let you know of some exciting news. This evening, we presented LFUCG Parks and Recreation with a donation of $10,000! This brings our total of over $56,000 given back to the Parks, for the purpose of building and maintaining off-leash areas! We absolutely could not have done this without YOUR support! We are very proud of this accomplishment, and hope that you are as well. Whether you have supported the organization with donation(s), membership, or just going to the dog parks, you have made a difference in this community. These dog parks are the only Park space that we know of that are used nearly 365 days a year!

We have made many naysayers into believers with our perseverance...In the words of Deputy Director of Parks Bill Carman, we have come a "FUR" piece. However...we know we have further to go!

Jacobson needs improvement, Masterson has a second phase to fence, Wellington needs to be fenced and all these parks needs amenities. We'll get there. We appreciate your patience while we work with Parks and Recreation to make plans for the future. Please know that we look at many different ways to spend the money, and try to come up with the best way to distribute and get the most for this organization. The board is comprised of people that go to Jacobson, Masterson Station and Coldstream...and also that can not wait for Wellington!! So, we want to go forward with it ALL!! We just have to work with Parks and Recreation to do so.

You may have read about dog parks that have been built in other cities, that have all kinds of amenities and such. Take pride that the dog parks in Lexington-Fayette County have been built by fairly small donations here and there...not big corporate sponsorships. Our main sponsors are locally owned businesses...

So, next time you go to the dog park...look around...and take pride that your donation, your Dog Paddle admission, or your simple moral support has made it possible.

We appreciate your support, and look forward to the next $50,000 to be given to the community.

Sincerely,
Friends of the Dog Park, Inc

Thanks to all of you that have agreed to help us out next Saturday! It's the 5th ANNUAL Paddle, and we're so excited that it's been such a success for Friends of the Dog Park and Lexington. Of course, this is our largest fundraiser, and we continue to work on the dog parks in Lexington, old and new.

We could use a few more volunteers, 10:30-12:30. We give a free DOG PADDLE T-shirt (these are different from before to commemorate the 5th Annual Dog Paddle) and free admission for 1 dog. (Dogs must attend when you are not working, unless someone else is there to watch your dog!)

Again, we really appreciate everyone's willingness to help. This event is so big that there is no way we could do it without you!!!

Hope to see y'all at the Paddle!

Dear Friends,

I'm sending the following email again, for the main reason that I lost my saved mail when I got a new computer, and do not have all the names that volunteered so far. Also, we did not get many replies, and I'm hoping with it being a little closer to the event, you'll have your schedules and plans, and be able to help us out.

If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this email (others may have the same questions!) or to me directly. (s.hutchinson@...)

Thank you!

WOW! It is almost that time again! DOG PADDLE TIME!!! Can you believe this will be our 5th year?! How exciting!

Once again, we're in need of volunteers to help at the Dog Paddle. The time has not been finalized yet, however we expect it to be like last year, 9AM-3PM.

Volunteers will receive a free Friends of the Dog Park t-shirt (to wear at the event) and a paid admission for one dog. However, we ask that you bring your dog before or after your volunteer time, unless you have someone that can watch your dog for you while you're working.

The times will be in 2 hour increments, beginning half hour before the event.

Here is the event information
DATE: Saturday, September 9, 2006
Rain date, Sunday, September 10, 2006

The jobs we need covered will range from
1. Checking rabies tags for validation.
2. Placing the zipcords (used to show payment) on the dogs collars.
3. Sitting at a "waiver" table, where all participants must sign in before entering.
4. Policing the EXIT gate, so there are no escapes!
5. Helping to monitor the pool area, watching mostly...possibly helping to keep people out of the pool.

We have steadily had around 700 dogs participate through out the day. We really could
use your help! However, please only agree of you are sure you can help. It's a lot of
work, but it's also a LOT of fun!

Thank you for your interest. If you have any questions or concerns, please
feel free to ask.

4. Policing the EXIT gate, so there are no excapes!

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that there is a new dog park in Lexington! It's located at Coldstream Park, which is off Newtown Pike across from the Marriott. We will be having a "Dedication" soon, that information will come shortly.

Coldstream Dog Park has 2 paddocks. This is something we've wanted to do for a while. If you have a small dog (or a crafy dog that like to get out!), please use the paddock to the right as you approach the gates. We've been advised of a few groundhog holes under the fence on the other side, and there is a VERY busy road really close by. We are working on getting a system together with Parks to help us fill the holes, so hopefully those will be taken care of soon.

Even if it's all the way across town for you, check it out sometime! It should be a wonderful feeling to know that YOU are a part of this; whether through donations, volunteering, or just using the dog parks, we know the support is there.

As usual, if you have any concerns or comments about any of the dog parks, please feel free to post them on this email list or email us directly at info@.... We love to here good and bad...after all, we can not fix it if we do not know it's broken! Some things we do know about and are working on with Parks.

Have a great Spring!
Sincerely,
Friends of the Dog Park, Inc.

If you can help find this dog a home, call Lisa Fields at either of the numbers listed below. Here's her message:

I found out today about a dog that has been chained to a tree for 2 years and the owners are moving and are not taking the dog with them.  This dog is a rat terrier/shitzu mix. At one time, it was house broken.  Even if it is a "foster" situation, this dog needs a temporary home. The woman who is giving the dog away had it in her car today with the windows rolled up.  They do not need this dog any longer!  Please pass this along and contact me if anyone is interested.  They said the dog is hyper but not aggressive.

Pass it on!

Over ten million animals are abused, neglected or abandoned yearly. You
can help each day with a free click!

Visit The Animal Rescue Site at http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com daily
and click the purple "Feed an Animal in Need" button. That simple action
gives food to an abandoned or abused animal.

There is no cost to you! Funding for nutritious food is paid by site
sponsors and goes to nonprofit animal welfare organizations who use it to
feed animals living in their shelters and sanctuaries.

The Animal Rescue Site was launched in July of 2002 and has generated
millions of bowls of food for rescued animals since then. With your help,
many more animals will benefit in 2005! It all depends on the number of
people who visit the site.

Please click at The Animal Rescue Site once a day and forward this email
on so more people can help give animals the happy, healthy lives they
deserve.

think i would never meet anyone. I'm 25 already and I thought it was all over.

a beauty. Well, 14 months later and where still together and planning our
marriage for later this year =)

and they need a home. Amos and Andy (10 week old beagle pups) are so
cute but they need a home for Christmas. I am fostering them through
Woodstock. Woostock closes tomorrow of the holidays but if you or
anyone you know is interested, you can call me at 859-248-7187 and I
can to the application with you. Woodstock does require you to have a
fenced in yard and if you have other pets, that they be spayed or
neutered. The cost is $125 and they puppies have had their shots, been
dewormed and have been neutered.

Thanks!
