Ironically, the only kid weve had to pull was out of the extra large mini. That wasn't even her fault. She was four years old when I got her and supposedly sterile. Ha. She showed us. The single buck kid was a big boy. I still think he might have still stayed within the top level of the standard, though. He was sold at weaning as a pet as was only slightly larger than the other boys.
I do have one 50%er that might be under the standard - but she lost her mom at an early age, due to eating chicken feed (broke into the chicken house and then the feed bin). I don't see why there should be a problem with the smaller does. The doe does determine the size of the fetus to a large degree. It's not like we're breeding extreme sizes together. Nigerian are usually easy kidders, so a small mini shouldn't have any more problems.
I do think that a small Oberhasli doe would be a great idea. In fact one of my new does is on the small side. We should be a good market for small does that are otherwise really nice does.

I just bought two polled Oberhasli to breed to him (rather than a straight Nigerian). I am not in a hurry to get to F6 status. I want to get the quality I want first, before I breed exclusively to minis. The potential gene pool is huge, so I am reluctant to minimize my options by breeding exclusively towards mini only for six generations. Anyway, it is OK to have minis that are not exactly 50%. I guess you can figure after 6 generations of normal mini to mini breeding, you will be close enough to 50%.
I haven't had a size problem yet. My F1s are within the standard. I did obtain an F1 doe that was Oberhasli sized but she was a rescue and I couldn't get any information on her parents. I really don't know why she was so big. She did have big white splashes on her side, so I figure she really wasn't a purebred and probably was half Nigerian, but maybe not.
