This file is sent to new members upon joining and to the group on a
bi-weekly basis. Hopefully it will assist us in keeping our inbox on
track. :)
We are receiving an increasing amount of mail into our email account
that has nothing to do with the transports that we are currently working
on. This is the sole account we use to coordinate our own runs and we
need to concentrate on incoming offers to help, driver forms, and ref
check responses, etc. These important emails are getting lost in the
shuffle.
NOTE: THIS IS A MAILING LIST ONLY - NOT A DISCUSSION GROUP
If you joined our group to crosspost rescue related information from other
sources, that is not possible. MoStar coordinators are the only ones
with access to post to this group. If you are sending emails to this
group email address - MoStarTransports @ yahoogroups.com - they are
coming only to our inbox and not being seen by others. This group was
created to keep those folks interested in driving for MoStar updated on
what we have going on without them having to weed through many emails
from other group mailings or digests.
Here are a few things to know about MoStar:
*MoStar is a transport group only. This means we don't personally do
rescue ourselves. If you are sending emails to us regarding dogs that
need rescue from shelters, etc., we are unable to help with this unless
it is a breed that is rescued by one of our approved groups which can be
found in our signature line. For other breeds, please follow this link:
http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm from the American Kennel Club. You
can get in contact with the breed rescue folks there and they can direct
you to the correct regional coordinator.
*MoStar coordinates transports only for those groups that we have
personally screened. We don't send an animal to any group that we
haven't checked out. If MoStar sends you a request asking for transport
assistance, crossposting assistance, or assistance in any other
capacity, please rest assured that we have done our homework on the
group/coordinator we are asking you to help. At the present time, Jane
and I are the only coordinators and the groups that are currently on
board with us keep us pretty busy. Therefore, we are not taking on any
new groups at this time.
*MoStar does not coordinate transports for private adopters. This means
those folks who are adopting directly from a shelter or taking in a dog
from an owner surrender situation. For instance, we get emails like this
all the time: "I live in NY and have adopted a puppy from death row in a
TX shelter. Can you help?" The answer is always going to be "no". We
simply don't have the time or manpower to do the ref checks, screenings,
setting up of a home visit, etc. We suggest to these folks that they
contact their local "all breed" rescue and adopt from there. This will
open up a foster home for another dog in need.
*MoStar does not combine animals from different sources on our runs. In
other words, shelter dogs move with shelter dogs and those coming from
boarding/temp foster/foster move with the same. We will not ask to add
to another coordinators run, nor will we add to an existing run of our
own, an animal coming directly from a shelter to a transport for an
animal that is coming from a boarding/temp foster/foster. We feel it is
unfair to expose the "quarantined" animal to the unknown that is a
reality in shelters. This does NOT mean that we don't like shelter dogs
or that we will only handle the "perfect" passenger. It simply means
that we are responsible in how we coordinate our runs.
*MoStar works with other coordinators to try and combine transports when
we can. As time permits, we assist them in filling their transports. We
currently work with a handful of other coordinators that we trust do
their homework on a rescue group before they agree to move an animal for
them. Meaning, they know the rescues adoption and screening policies,
and that the responsible rescue does spay/neuter before placement. We
require that a home visit has been conducted before the animal is sent
to an adopting home or foster home.
*MoStar does not crosspost to our groups or contacts those transports in
which we have not screened the responsible rescue group or we have not
worked in the past with the coordinator. There are good and bad
coordinators out there, just like there are good and bad rescue groups.
There are several folks out there that dedicate their time and energy to
crossposting, therefore we feel that this is not a service that MoStar
needs to provide. If you are one of these folks that does the
crossposting, please do your homework and know who you are assisting
before spreading the word.
We don't wish to cause hard feelings, but to express that we are
inundated with requests that we can't assist with. Jane and I both work
full time and have families of our own. Like everyone else, our time is
limited.
We don't want to block anyone from our inbox, as there may be times when
getting in touch with us is an urgent matter. However, if you have been
asked not to send certain emails to us and you continue to do so, we
will have no choice but to block your email address.
We make every effort to only contact folks that are in the path of one
of our transports. We don't email every driver and every coordinator in
out contact base for every run that we are working on. If you are a
transport coordinator and we are sending you a request, we are asking
you to either drive for us, or pass along to drivers in your area.
If you would like to be removed from our mailings asking for assistance,
please let us know and we will remove your from our database and address
book.
Thank you for understanding.
