Right now we have two 40 gallon critter tanks. I had 30 females divided
equally into the two tanks. Fighting occurred and so did weight gain, so
the mice were resorted with the aggressive and fat mice in one tank and the
peaceful, normal weight mice in the other. It still came out about
even. However, one by one, I've had to remove mice from the 'fat tank' as
they were being bullied to the point of blood. Now there are 8 mice in the
fat tank. Old age has come around and we have a ten gallon tank that has
three mice in it, one of whom is at the end of her life. The other two can
go into a regular tank. The one is a chatterer with no illness (she's been
checked repeatedly), while the other is just there as 'company'. Three
mice from the fat tank are going to go into that tank when it's free. They
fight constantly, but only with everyone else. They're equally matched and
seem to know that and leave each other alone. All of them just seem to
adore fighting. We find it extremely annoying! LOL. Peace should reign
in the 40's once those three are removed. No one else does more than an
occasional grumpy day. Some mice just seem to thrive on fighting while
just the stress of being in a tank with fighting is very hard on others.
