First, I generally avoid chat groups because communication through
email is fine for quick exchanges and answering questions but it
often fails to get to the heart of the matter and misunderstandings
often arise. I joined the Yahoo group because Beni and I are so
isolated from our Nodrog friends, it's another way to stay in touch.
Second, Mary's suggestion that this be discussed "off line" is a
good one (even for those of us who can't be present at the next
meeting).
Third, most editors (and I've been one for years) would feel that an
article submitted should run in the publication first and then be
posted electronically if needed. That's not a "ding" at Cheryl,
just a statement of fact from an experienced editor. That said,
most submitters of articles who have not served as editors probably
would not realize this.
Fourth, if Nodrog decides to go to an electronic newsletter (as lots
of groups are doing), there is a lot to be considered. Personally,
I like the paper copy but I do understand costs. Also, because Beni
and I are so remote in Ohio and look to be very rural in Indiana if
we EVER find a place, an electronic newsletter isn't feasible, since
we can't get high speed internet access. BUT, this should be
discussed by the parties. My suggestion is to form a committee with
Jan as a member (even if you decide to give up the editorship of
Glimpses, Jan) and some past Glimpses editors as well. Mary G
should be involved too if her time permits since she cares for the
website.
I've already said a lot for someone who said the discussion should
be held "off line" but Gordon Setter publications have been a big
part of my life for nearly 30 years and I know how challenging it is
to bring members the news.

They obviously reflect well thought out verse and photos from the

It has to do with courtesy and consideration towards fellow club members, a concept that seems to be lost.

It has nothing to do with fear of being 'scooped'--what a ludicrous thought.
It has to do with courtesy and consideration towards fellow club members, a concept that seems to be lost.
The fact is that you wrote the article per my request for the newsletter. You knew the newsletter was going out this past week-end, and instead of writing something else in the e-mail or just waitin 3 days to send it out, in consideration for the time I spend on the newsletter, you chose to e-mail the same article that wasto be published in the newsletter.
It is not the content of the article, nor the fact that everyone (well, maybe just a lot of people) read the article before they saw it in the newsletter that has me upset. Heaven knows half the people don't read the newsletter anyway. It is your actions that have me upset. The article could have been about bananas and I would feel the same way.
But again, you no longer have to worry about it--the newsletter position is open. Perhaps you would like to do it?

I urge you both to avoid dealing with sensitive issues through email. It is far too easy to misunderstand the intent or tone of an email-as opposed to a personal conversation. We will consider all issues at the board meeting on Sunday, 1:00 at Frankenmuth. I urge you both to attend and clear the air-we will all benefit. Whether you sustain your intent to resign or not it would still benefit all if there could be a face-to-face conversation. If we need to review principles for publishing information we can do that. The newsletter is a valuable tool and has never been better in my opinion. But as Jan states, that does not mean everyone reads it in this electronic age. It might be worth considering whether we want to simultaneously publish the newsletter online and mail it out-that would avoid this kind of problem. My church does that-and it seems to work. Some folks just have a need for info on their screens and don't spend a lot of time reading print. Personally, I love sitting down with the Glimpses and savoring each page. But I'm an old person used to print.

Oh man, we have the coolest newsletter, you can't quit!!!!!!!
I know that you have asked me to write an article about how I got into Gordons and I have started it, honest! I feel horrible that I have dropped the ball on it.
I also would like to put in a memorial for Tally, when I'm ready.
Hope to see everyone at the meeting, if I can make it. I have someone picking up a puppy and I'm not sure which day they are coming.

How many Nodrog members are there? There are only 14 people in this
group so far. It will be very difficult to improve communication if the
majority of the membership do not participate.
Look at all the people that have joined our group. Lets all forward the
invitation to anyone they don't see listed that they know is a club
member and even thoughs we think might like to become a member, because
some people might have had there e-mail screeded for SPAM since it was
a bulk mailing. Let's get everybody signed up that we can!!!
Nodroggers have made a super response to the effort to improve health
in our wonderful breed with nearly 50 dogs signed up to register DNA
at the CHIC/DNA repository.
Some members have already sent samples in and we're having a "day of
show" clinic on September 23. All you'll need is an application and a
3-generation pedigree.
If you don't have the application yet, please drop me a note either at
wyttsend@... or dianneavery@...
I will be away from email the week of August 19-24 so I'd like to make
sure everyone who wants to sign up does so this week.
Cost is only $10 (special rate).
Let's hear from you!

Ooooooooo, I like that idea, more material for Jan and easier to contact them and get feedback about get togethers with the club.....one of the things you can do with these groups is post pictures on the home page and then Jan can pull what she needs:-)

Cheryl, If I was to start a Rescue group it would be for the people that have adopted from us. It would help us keep in contact with them and offer help if needed. Im sure that we would get some funny stories and shared pic out of it.

Just place your cursor below the message and it will let you write your reply-if you are talking about using the message reply box on the yahoogroups website, that is.

Now i remember why I don't do these thing....How do you reply to a message? When you hit the 'reply' button, you just get the already posted message in the box, and no where to write your stuff in!

There is a gentleman in the St. Louis area looking for an older dog that a breeder has gotten back or a resuce dog. He has had other bench Gordons and currently has a five year old male 75# Gordon. Sounds like a very good home...fenced yard, property, etc.
He is interested in another bench sized Gordon. Please let me know if you have something. Thanks Pat Thayer
