Welcome to all the new members who've come over recently, great to have
you here!

We now have a total of 11 (yes, 11!) dog swims on the calendar over the
next several weeks. There are now lots of choices as to where you can
take Fido swimming in a pool, hopefully one close by you!

Lewisville is the only one I haven't been able to verify yet from
several months ago, as the city website has been down for almost a week
now. Hopefully it will be back up and running before the scheduled dog
swim so we can make sure on the details.

Have a great day!
Jen

No biggie, lol.  I’ve done the same thing myself a few times wondering when that message had gone out and why hadn’t I gotten it.  Only to finally figure out that I had the date sort going the wrong way!

Thanks for joining us!

So sorry we've been AWOL from the group, but it's been such a busy
summer with the little ones, plus some medical drama that we'll spare
you from right now. But I finally realized what the date was and how
close all the end of season dog swims are!

One is even next week!

So I'm making it a priority today to go through and update all the
info we have, double checking all the current dates and adding a
bunch more stuff I've had sent my way.

We've also found one or two more good parks for letting the pooches
swim, so I'll be putting those into our database as well for any who
are interested.

Still having the hardest time finding swim shoes for our sweet
Harmony though! After tearing up the pads on her paws at the
beginning of summer at the pool, I'm afraid it will happen again and
she'll end up missing out on all the dog swims coming up. Any ideas
out there on where to get swim shoes for dogs? Thanks for any help!

Hope all your dogs have been keeping cool this summer and looking
forward to seeing you at all the upcoming dog swims. Should have the
group finished updating by tonight, so come by and take a look when
you have a chance!

First of all we are in Rockwall County and all anyone has to do is to do is e-mail at firelady75189@... (me) for directions and I will pas them along.  I do not post that info as I will have people at my door all the time wanting to use my dock.

Second, yes we are very kid friendly.  I have 2  two legged boys aged 10 ( almost 11) and 7 who are very sports oriented and have a yellow lab all their own who loves to flop off the dock.

I have posted to the SplashDog website as well as Dockdogs and if you wish to cross post to any others please do.  I do know that lonestardockdogs is no longer in existence as I was the founder/president.

My husband and I have definitely wanted to explore the sport with Harmony at some point to see if she¢d be interested in it.

Just curious, have you invited other groups to this as well (the more people to learn from in other words I guess is what I¢m asking, lol)?

One other quick question, is this at all a child friendly thing for people to bring their non-furry kids to as well?

Thank you so much for including the group in this, I¢ll be talking with Doug about it tonight to see if we can make it!

Hi everyone. I 'm not sure if this would be relevant to this group
but I will throw it out there.

My husband and I have participated in the sport of Dock Jumping for 5
years now. At one point we were so involved that we built a training
dock on our pond at our home in North Texas . I still participate in
this sport with my Chocolate Lab "Choco" and we will be hosting a
practice date on Sunday June 8th 2:00pm -8:00pm at our home.

Practice will open at 2 pm and we work on a rotation type schedule.
Every one gets 15 min of time and then gets back into the rotation
with priority going to anyone who has not been on the dock yet. (does
that make sense?) There is always someone willing to help or offer
advice if you need it and lots of people take pictures. I recommend
bringing necessities such as shade (pop up canopy as we have no trees)
crate for when not on the dock, chairs, towels, water and any snacks
you may want. We also have charcoal and the grill ready for anyone who
wants to BBQ some hot dogs, burgers, etc. Let me know if I can answer
any more questions or help with any other info.

Thank you,
Debi

Ok Jen, I just put that file into the
files section of this group.

It took me longer to find than I was expecting
it to and I also got sidetracked a couple of
times.

Almost none of the events in Illinois were
being done to benefit an animal shelter or
dogpark fund and I am pretty sure that is
why the health department was able to
cancel them without anyone complaining
about it.

The parks departments didn't care that
much and with noone losing any fundraising
money there was noone to complain to the
newspapers or other media outlets and
there were only a couple of newspaper
stories about this ridiculous decision.

These are "feel-good" events and a huge
part of the "feel-good" is a lot of dog
owners coming together to support a common
cause.

The people having the most fun are the
ones doing this to help support a local
canine cause.

But the proceeds from the fee to enter
is only a small part of it. The towns
raising significant dollars are getting
more money from event sponsors, silent
auctions and other add-on stuff than
the gate receipts.

I'm only mentioning this as an FYI,
not to try and change anyones mind about
this.

Being the backup moderator would only be
in case something happens to me. When
the only moderator of a Yahoo group dies
or loses interest, there is no way for
any of the other members of the group to
recover the group and when professional
SPAM trolls realize this they begin
posting relentless SPAM until the
group becomes useless.

Since you are a group moderator, I think
you will find some of the information in
the mesage above useful in helping other

I wish I had known you were working on this.

Texas has more of these events than any
other state now that the Illinois health
department has shut them down in that state.

I will put a file into your files section
with all the information I have from Texas
for previous years.

Are you interested in these events as
fundraising opportunities for some canine
cause or are you just interested in the
fun part ?

I am also going to add a link for your
group to my dog swim group.

It you would be much better if you addded

was wondering if you would also like

Hi Pat and Clue (and anyone else wanting to come play in the pond!),

Yes, we will be there, say around 10ish in the morning.  Harmony has been healing up since the dog swim at Plano, we elected to have her skip swimming last weekend cause her paws were still a little sore.  But she’s better now and can’t wait to get in the water!

Can’t wait to play with you guys!

Jen

Jen:

I wish I had known you were working on this.

Texas has more of these events than any
other state now that the Illinois health
department has shut them down in that state.

I will put a file into your files section
with all the information I have from Texas
for previous years.

Are you interested in these events as
fundraising opportunities for some canine
cause or are you just interested in the
fun part ?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Canine-Swim-Events-USA/links
I am also going to add a link for your
group to my dog swim group.

It you would be much better if you addded
another moderator for this group and I
was wondering if you would also like
to help moderate the group above ?

This was the best event in the country
until the morons from the Illinois health
department got involved.

The group above is active primarily in Aug & Sep when
seasonal pools are closing and these events are occuring.

The reason our links section is open to nonmembers is so
our group members can access our links section without
logging into yahoo groups each time.

All the Yahoo groups I moderate are set up this way now.

Hi Group - Yes Clue and I made it - got there about 10:30. It was chilly and for some reason I thought it would be at the indoor pool, so I wasn't dressed warmly. But, I got in with Clue up to my knees and toughed it out. She had a blast. I look forward to more "swims".

I hope some of you were able to make it out to the K9 Kerplunk in
Plano on Saturday, it was a blast.....for the 45 min we were there. :-
( Harmony and I got there just after 9am when they opened, fully
prepared (in jeans and sweatshirt since it was slightly chilly, lol)
to stay for several hours of playtime for her. She had a great time,
went straight for the water and never looked back. After about 40
min of watching her jump around everywhere, I looked over the tables
there, talked to the Red Cross first aid lady for a few minutes then
found Harmony again and called her over to me.
That's when I noticed she was leaving bloody footprints everywhere!
Evidently she had jumped off the sides of the pool so much going in
after balls and toys that she scraped up her back paws so that they
were bleeding. Poor Puppy!
Thankfully I was right there at first aid and they managed to wrap up
her paws for me to help stop the bleeding, but that meant we had to
leave, no more swimming for her. I don't know if you have ever seen
a truly sad dog, but this was definatley one. The looks she kept
giving me as we were leaving and got in the car were so sad. All she
wanted to do was stay and play with the other doggies. Now I know
why some of the dogs there had swim shoes only on their back paws!
We're going to look into getting her some towards the end of summer
before all the other dog swims start back up.
Went ahead and stopped at the petstore to get her a bone to help ease
the pain so to speak, then had her take it easy the rest of the
weekend. Paws are still a little sore, but should be healed up by
this weekend so she can swim in the pond (with nice soft dirt and
grass!)
I went ahead and posted the pictures I took for anyone to look at.
You can even see one of the poor injured pooch, lol.

Did anyone else make it out? Did you have a good time? Any pictures
you can post in the picture area?

Safe swimming everyone!
Jen and Harmony

I know the reminder already went out, but I'm very excited about the
dog swim this Saturday. And just to be safe (since it seems so
unusual to have a dog swim BEFORE swim season), I called and double
checked with the pool and they are still on! Woo Hoo.

Went to the Campbell / Shiloh pond on Saturday, though we were an
hour late as my alarm clock decided that it was going to die in the
middle of the night with no warning. So didn't make it till 10:30,
though we did get to briefly meet Pat and her dog (I think it was
Blue, correct me if I'm wrong Pat!). Blue and Harmony got along
wonderfully and for the few minutes they got to see each other, had a
great time splashing in the water.

We won't be going to the pond this weekend since we'll be at Plano's
Kerplunk, but most Saturday's will find either the whole family or my
husband or I there with Harmony swimming and fetching her water toys,
usually sometime around 10am.

Hope to meet some of you this Saturday in Plano!!!

Jen

group)He has a 4 year old black Lab named Shadow who LOVES the water.
Not sure if he can make it Saturday because we are going to Jimmy
Buffett concert, but maybe he can.
Great idea for a group!

Looks like we are going to take our girl Harmony
swimmimg on Saturdday morning at the lake/pond at
Campbell and Shiloh. We should be there sometime
around 9:30am if anyone is interested in joining us.
Directions are listed in the database area if you need
them.

This will probably be a weekly thing for us unless one
of the city dog swims are happening. Hope to see some
of you soon!

Hi guys, welcome to the group! I've found a lot more dog swims for
this year then I had hoped for, and I'm still getting more! Just in
case you are having trouble viewing the calendar (please let me know
if you are!), here's a list of the dates that we have so far...

5/3/2008 K-9 Kerplunk Dog Swim
8/30/2008 Dog-A-Poolooza Dog Swim Day!
8/16/2008 Doggie Splash Day
9/6/2008 Doggie Dive-In
9/14/2008 Dog Day Afternoon Operation Kindness - swim at Hawaiian
Falls
9/20/2008 Dog Swim at Wet Zone Water Park
9/21/2008 Dog Swim at Wet Zone Water Park

If nothing else, this will send you to the day on the calendar so
that you can get more info about it (times, places, directions if we
have it). There's a few dates in question, but any time I find
something out, I'm updating the calendar, so just make sure to check
back before heading out to something. I've also got these all set to
send a reminder out 5 days ahead of the event so that we don't forget.

I'm also slowly building up the list of places where it's safe for
our pups to go swimming without being a city sponsered event. I've
only got a few places so far, so if you know of any that you've been
to, PLEASE let us know by adding it to the list. Just go to database
and add to the Places for Dogs to swim table. :-)
Maybe we'll even be able to start setting up swim playdates for our
dogs during the summer when the dog pool swims aren't going on.

Feel free to add pictures of your dogs swimming in the picture area.
I've got a few of my girl Harmony up and will be adding more later.
Love to see those dogs having fun!

Last little bit for this email is a question. I've got a lot of
other events that are either for the dogs or dog friendly. Do you
want me to put those on the calendar as well, or just keep this a
water event type group? I went ahead and made a poll for it in our
group, just go to:
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/northtexasaquaticdogs/surveys?
id=2031928 and vote whichever way you feel.

Thanks everyone for your time and hope all of you and your dogs are
doing well!

Jen

P.S. don't forget to send this group to anyone you know that has
water loving dogs. The more people we get on here, the more chances
we have of letting our dogs play in the water!

Off to a wonderful start here guys! Already have 3 dog swims posted on
the Calendar (it helps to look at it in Event Lists mode), one of which
is coming up May 3rd! So there is at least one sponsered event before
swim season officially begins!

I know we'll be there for sure with our Catahoula, Harmony.

I know most of the Public Pool dog swims are toward the end of the
season right before they empty the pools out for winter. Does anyone
know of any that are before swim season?
