Please forward to other animal protection lists...
The following post is from Gamefowl News, a cockfighters listserv.
For the second day in a row they are trying to get their people to
complain to Yahoo about animal rights lists hosted by Yahoo.
They are angry because Yahoo canceled two of their lists for
violations of the Yahoo Terms of Service. What they don't seem to
realize is that one, possibly both, of the pro cockfighting email
lists were canceled because of complaints sent by their fellow
cockfighters during a period of infighting.
Perhaps people angry that the cockfighters are fabricating reasons to
cancel pro animal lists will want to visit groups.yahoo.com. Put
in "Gamecock", "Gamefowl" and "cockfighting" so you can see their
groups. (Note: When you put in Gamecock a lot of University of South
Carolina groups pop up). When they start talking about illegal
animal fighting, you can report it to abuse@... and ask they
cancel the animal fighters Yahoo Groups.
Two can play at this game!

RE: USDA Must Stop Reimbursing Cockfighters with Public Monies
Dear Secretary Veneman:
I ask you to to stop reimbursing cockfighters ("game fowl breeders")
with public money. This amounts to federal support of heinous
criminal activity.
Although cockfighting is a crime in California and 47 other states,
the U.S. Department of Agriculture and California Department of Food
and Agriculture are using tax dollars to indemnify cockfighters who
kill "game" birds suspected of exotic Newcastle disease (END), an
infectious avian virus being fought with gross inhumaneness at
taxpayers' expense to protect the poultry and egg industry.
Responding to a Freedom of Information Act request, government
officials told The Californian (Bakersfield, CA, 3/15) that bird
owners get between $5 and $1,850 per bird but "refuse to explain how
they calculate the compensation and who has received how much for
their birds."
It's been reported that $2 - $5 tax-dollars per bird is the "fair
market value" being given to owners of hen flocks being destroyed
under California's END eradication program, whereas $1,000 to $2,000
is the "fair market value" being given to owners of birds bred and
used for cockfighting, "an illegal sport suspected of contributing
to the rapid spread in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada of the
highly contagious virus" (Californian, 3/15).
It's time the U.S. moved away from barbarism and stops all support
for this cruel and bloodthirsty "sport."
Sincerely,
