WHY?

The decision of a some dedicated members to NOT address/limit an increasing, PERSONAL legal liability of event organizers and participants prompted this change.

In the past, Pugs of NE Ohio met once a month. The pugs played while you and I carefully watched our pug(s)/cleaned up when required/talked/shared/laughed/relaxed.... We met for an hour or two on Saturday or Sunday, at locations in Northeast Ohio, such as Eastlake, Chagrin Reservation, Cleveland, Brecksville, Parma, Akron, Lakewood, etc.

Some dedicated members decided that Pugs of NE Ohio should grow beyond informal monthly meets. They organized fund raisers, participated in community parades and other public activities. These activities, including an event at a commercial business selling alcohol by the drink, significantly increased organizers' and participants' PERSONAL legal liability. Pugs of NE Ohio is not an incorporated entity and therefore can't insulate organizers, members or participants from PERSONAL legal liability.

Personal legal liability could have been and can be addressed through incorporation as an nonprofit group/club/organization for a relatively low cost ($250-$400). Incorporation also have increased the likelihood of Corporate support for Pug Rescue fund raising activites.

Also, please consider/understand your level of personal legal liability when you join/participate in a group/club/organization. If the group/club/organization (incorporated or not) promotes fund raising activities, you may wish to ask/know how ALL the funds are spent.
