Having problems with message search?
My Dear Brother Dr Al-Ajlan,
In Iraq, RPW has not yet been recorded.Iraq does not imprt palm tree from outside the country.All neighboring countries are infested by RPW : Iran, Syria, Kuwait, KSA,Jordan and Turkey.In case of RPW introduced in Iraq, it will be a serious threat to date palm plantations.
Recently, I have received a report regarding a new pest which discovered in France and Italy appears to be similar to RPW.This new insect, called Paysandisia archon Burmeister , is a big and beautiful moth belongs to the Family Castniidae, Order: Lepidoptera. This moth attacks all kinds of palm trees included date palm and
has become a serious pest on date palm in Southern Europe.The damage was observed at different levels of the tree: leaves, rachis and top of the trunk.Once the egge hached, the small larva bores towards the heart of the palm and it can cause the death of the tree.The larva turns into a pupa protected by a cocoon made with palm fibers, exactly similar to RPW.The origin of this insect is South America especially Argentina.
