Description

Raw-Diet Golden is a mailing list for Golden Retriever owners who feed (or have a strong interest in feeding) a raw homemade diet to their dogs. This is *not* a BARF (Bones And Raw Food) -only list; those who feed the Volhard, Pitcairn, or Schultze programs are just as welcome and encouraged to participate. This will be a place to share successes, problems, and pitfalls of the WOF (Way of Feeding) we've chosen - all within the context of the Golden Retriever breed. Since many homemade feeders believe that "different breeds have different needs", the Scottish origins of Goldens could be a prime area for discussion. Depending on the areas of expertise and interests of subscribers, other topics might include the use of supplements, herbs, the economics and practicality of the various diets, dietary amounts for Goldens, and the possible role of diet in some of the problems that afflict our wonderful breed. Since a raw homemade diet is regarded as the very foundation for alternative treatment programs, such topics are also welcome, although using an alternative or complementary veterinarian isn't a requirement for list membership. List traffic might be heavy or it might be light - it all depends upon the interests of subscribers.

It is expected that list members will discuss the choices that others have made with respect, not heated debate. It is a given that all are simply doing what they feel is the very best for their Goldens. Flames and arguing for the sake of arguing will not be tolerated.

The FAQ for the list is one or more of the following books:
"The Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog" by Wendy Volhard & Kerry Brown, DVM
"Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats" by Richard H. Pitcairn, DVM, PhD
"The Ultimate Diet: Natural Nutrition for Dogs & Cats" by Kymythy R. Schultze, AHI
"Give Your Dog a Bone" by Dr. Ian Billinghurst, BVSc (Hons), BScAgr, Dip. Ed. or his new book (due out in the US in October), "Grow Your Pups with Bones".
