Today's economy has hit everyone hard - even our good friend, Drusilla.  For those that have been in the rat rescue community for many years, I'm sure you'll agree that Dru has always been the first one to step up to help anyone in need.  Due to lack of work for many months, now it is time to "pay it forward" and extend the same kindness and generosity that she has always shown to others.

We are having a raffle to raise funds for Drusilla, and the raffle will end on December 1st at which time the winning numbers will be drawn.  The prizes will be awarded on-down-the line .... the first ticket drawn will get first choice of all the prizes.  Second ticket drawn gets second choice... drawing until all prizes are awarded.

With the upcoming holiday season there are many wonderful prizes that would make terrific gifts!

There is someone in the area with a litter of ratties that need homes...I don't know all the details, I know there are about 12 babies, some black/white, some tan/white, some with unique markings and I guess about 7-8 weeks old...the girl who has them says people have inquired and not shown up to see them/pick them up, etc and says she may have to turn them over to the local humane society to be adopted out. I don't know how the local humane societies deal with rats, but thought I'd post the information in case anyone in the northern IL/Southern WI area could help. Email me privately for her contact info.

Hi Everyone,

By now most of you are probably aware of Drusilla's unfortunate situation.  For those of you who aren't familar with Dru personally you have probably seen her pet portraits throughout the rattie community (The Illustrated Rat).  I made a promise to Dru that I would take her rat babies if she ever needed me to and now was that time.

Two of the girls need surgery for tumor removals.  One of these girls has multiple tumors but one surgery is sufficient for now due to it's size.  Only days before hearing the news and picking up Dru's girls a woman pleaded with me to take her one, lonesome girl.  She admitted she had a small tumor but failed to mention she has some kind of skin problem.  When I mentioned it, she said she thought it was just a rash.  It is clearly more than that, not parasitic, doesn't seem contagious but not comfortable for the rattie either.

I contacted Dr. Pilny for a general estimate on all.  He hasn't seen anyone in person yet so it's very general, but I'm looking at around $60 per office visit, $340 per surgery & $200 for the skin scraping and pathology.  This alone totals $1200 without tax and meds.
I don't live close and cross a bridge to get to Yonkers.  I made this haul over the summer when I worked at ASC, it's not a cheap commute either but that's on me.  I know these are hard times, but please I only ask that if anyone can donate even just a dollar or two towards these surgeries, I would really appreciate it and the girls would too. This is really for them not me.  My paypal is rattie_beanez@ yahoo.com  Thanks so much.

Baby PET Rats - avail for Christmas!

Date: 2009-11-12, 10:07AM
Baby PET Rats available for adoption ~ Just in Time for Christmas!

We had an unexpected surprise and need to find homes for 9 little ratties.
I believe there are 5 boys and 7 girls,
But 3 girls are already reserved!

The mother is a silky black/white blaze and the father is a Himilayan (w/ a mom who was a Dumbo)!
Rats make great pets, are tame, don't bite, can learn tricks and learn their name.

If you want more info or would like to be put on an adoption waiting list, let me know.
There will be a small adoption / rehoming fee to ensure they find homes as PETS
These are to be PETS ONLY - no feeders.

They were just born Nov. 2nd and we are already handling them so they will be very friendly and tame!

2 free Rats. They are both female. I am getting rid of them because I do not have time to give them the attention they deserve. If you are not familier with Rats, you will be happy to find out they are very friendly and smart pets. (they do not bite like hamsters and gerbils do).

Pet Rat

Date: 2009-11-07, 2:47PM
We have a pet rat that is about 6 months old .. could be younger.. My 7 year old got him as a gift, and she doesnt give him the time he neeeds.. he is a sweetheart.. but he will nip your finger if you stick it thru the cage wires.. when you put your hole hand in, he is ok.. he will sit on your shoulder and groom himself.. I dont want him to be snake food! I would like to see him go somewhere he can get more attention.. and a larger cage.. im not asking for a fee at all, cuz after all, he was a "gift" I will be picky and make sure I know he is going to a good HOME.. and not somewhere else........ Thanks for taking the time! =)
