Stop the Exploitation of Reseach and Animals in the Triangle (SERAT) is a local grassroots organization started by 2 public school teachers. Our philosophy is to use an intellectual and academic approach to shifting the research paradigm away from using animals for researching human diseases and the development of human medications. We plan on doing this through educating the public, as well as the academic arena, through our information tables in Durham and Chapel Hill, public forum discussions, and through the media. Our mission is to educate the public about:

1. The inhumane treatment of animals in laboratories at major universities.

2. Alternatives to animal testing which are many times more accurate, less expensive, and not painful to humans.

3. The non-validity of animal testing as it relates to the effects in humans.

4. The huge waste of tax money on animal experiments.
