James Stuart, Conservation Services Division of the New Mexico Department
of Game & Fish, photographed the Springwater Dancer (Argia plana) along a stream
in Los Alamos County on June 24th.
 
On June 27th the New Mexico State Naturalist, Steve Cary, photographed the
Dot-winged Baskettail (Epitheca petechialis) at 7,540 ft. in Sugarite Canyon
State Park in Colfax County.  The same area where the Mountain Emerald and Taiga
Bluet had been found last year.  A fairly high elevation for this baskettail.
 
On June 29th James Stuart photographed the Powdered Dancer (Argia moesta) in the
Cochiti Lake area of the Cochiti Indian Reservation in Sandoval County. 
 
On July 1st James Stuart photgraphed the Widow Skimmer (Libellula luctuosa) at
the Rio Grande Nature Center in Albuquerque (Latin: Alba = White, Quercus =
Oaks) along with the Flame Skimmer (Libellula saturata).   The Widow Skimmer is
a new record for Bernalillo County.
 
The Rick Johnson Company in Albuquerque made an amazing dragonfly festival
poster for the City of Roswell and New Mexico Department of Tourism as part of
the Amazing Roswell poster series.  It received a gold Addy Award for
advertising and is done in the style of a 1940s Pulp Science Fiction magazine
cover showing an Amelia Earhart like aviatrix along with aliens each riding atop
a flight of Blue-eyed and Common Green Darners into Roswell.
