I have only been a part of the rabbit world for about eight years, and of that
have only been a breeder for less than five, and have yet to attend an ARBA
Convention. So I guess you could say I'm still new to all of this. :-) For
the longest time I thought it would be very hard to pick and choose what Tans I
would take because I love them all and like to know what judges think on all of
them. However, through personal trial and error (because I'm the type of guy
that doesn't listen and has to see for myself) I've learned that this can't be
done even for regular ARBA Shows. And throughout this last year I've found that
I need to be even more selective if we go to convention, especially when it
comes to age (even though I have a 3 yr old buck that didn't hit his show stride
until he was over a year and was still taking BOB's and RIS at 2+ yrs). Sooooo
this year I decided to breed "Convention Hopefuls" and have older jr's and young
sr's, but not all of my does have been very cooperative this year.
I started breeding back in January just in case there were issues, I didn't get
a litter until beginning of April (2 choc/2 Lilac b&d each). But still I
pressed on for blacks. Had a well experienced doe throw five blacks at the
start of June.......on the wire, and we lost them all. Day or two later had a
first time momma throw a litter .......on the wire and lost them too. So here
is my question (and the point to this insanely long posting). Is it too late as
of Mid-June to breed Tans for Convention, either to show or sell? And I promise
I'll try and listen ;-)
Oh and if you were wondering why the direct focus on Convention, it usually
takes me awhile to sell off a litter out here because my wife and I don't make
too many shows, and there's typically only about 22 Tans at a big show...If I
take about ten.
Thanks for your help,
