And I am new as well. It has been pretty quiet and hope to see al little more
conversation.
Myself am not sure how I fit in but Claudia's email helped understand better.
My founding stallion is by an import of 88 and my younger stasllion's grandsires
both improted. However my mares are all from early foundation. I concentrate on
Crabbet, not CMK. But I do have a lot of CMK stock. I only have them because it
works that way in pedigree and I don't focus on CMK eligibility.
Thanks for listening

Wendy---welcome to the group, neighbor.
nd he is 100% Early American thru vol VIII.
I hate to nit-pick--but volume IV is the one that counts toward
EAF - I'd be interested to know his volume IV percentage.
I am not sure if Kaldareyn (Fadareyn x Kallysta) qualifies as I do not
know his % as far as the stud books go.
Do you mean his EAF/AF or his CMK? As you know, we can't all
figure our own CMK percentages, but any one of us with access to a CD or the
DataSource can calculate their own EAF/AF percentages. Just go back in
his pedigree: Any horses in the pedigree with numbers ending with 2945 or
before are EAF. Any horses with numbers 16015 and before are AF. (See
the formula below) You don't have to "divide" an individual horse into
smaller percentages according to whether their sire or dam "is or isn't" (as
with some of the groups)--you simply look at the registration numbers.
> 2 - that was my husband's former wife's name.
LOL - when I was looking for land in Texas, I vowed I would NEVER
have Leonard, Texas be my mailing address---that was my ex-husband's name
(Leonard---not Texas---giggle).

I talked with Gene on the phone last nite and he is in Austin, TX. Will be
riding to the capitol tomorrow morning.
www.geneglasscock.org
He will be adding a Mustang to his sting, on Wed!! Yeee Haww!
He continues to have problems with " Franks" hoof, and loosing shoes,,,,,,,,,,
So he is looking into donating him to a therapeutic riding center for
handicapped children. He has a couple that he is going to check out.
When I said to him that it would be hard for him to leave Frank behind, his
first concern was for George. That's gene for ya, more worried about his horses
then himself.
He may be getting another Mustang when he reaches Oklahoma City. When he was
here, he told me he probably would have a string of 4 horses, before he gets
farther west. I guess he will have to, to pack feed. The towns do get farther
apart out there.
He is real excited about riding into his "Home State " capitol. I hope so much
that the Governor will come out to great him.
On the Sunday that he spent with me, I took him to church, then we went to my
neighbors ( Frank & Terri ) for dinner. Their daughter lives south of Austin and
she has been waiting for him to get their. She has set up a great greeting
committee for him! A bunch of 4-H kids! He will love that!
Also some mounted police will escort him in!
And some folks from TETRA are hosting him too!
He sounds good, in better spirits then the last time I spoke with him.
He will probably be in or near Austin for most of the week then heading for his
30th capitol, OK City.
If you haven't read his web site, do it now. He is just one remarkable man!
I was blessed to have been able to ride with him & spend a little time.

I have a suggestion - how about making a folder/file, in which to
put the EAF horses' photos. I know files on AF and AFB would be
interesting, too, but I think EAF is a small enough group not to take all
the memory allocated to us for photos.

Good question, Claudia. With this group, we are going to (hopefully)
identify our EAF, AF and AFB Arabian horses here in Texas, assist with
their promotion, provide showcase opportunities to introduce their
existence to the public and establish a network wherein we can provide one
another with the valuable bloodlines which are American Foundation.
We have the following EAF horses:
Mesqual, bay stallion
Mistyanna Ra'Amee, bay mare
Irish Mysticwind hc, bay filly
Irish Cara hc, bay filly
We have the following AF horses:
Ibn Shallaan hc, black stallion
Moufira lhf, chestnut stallion (owned with Debra S.)
Greggan's Kual lhf, chestnut stallion (owned with Debra S.)
Sassy Roo, chestnut mare (one lease from Jane O.)
We have several AFB horses also.
Who else has EAF and AF horses here in Texas?

Congratulations on your bay filly!! (You know I love the bays.)
I am wondering---how many EAF horses do we have here in Texas? I
have three stallions, two mares, one filly, and a mare on lease. (Does
that make seven?--grin)

We had our third filly for the year foaled early this morning.
We are pleased to announce the arrival of Irish Cara hc out of Mistyanna Ra'Amee
and by Mesqual. This little bay delight is Early American Foundation Arabian,
SBV and CMK. She is also Saqlawiyah-Al'Abd pure in strain and family. She is
precious and friendly! Just the way we like them.
Her full sister, Irish Mysticwind hc (aka Windy) who is such a neat individual.
She has a best-friend disposition. So far, it looks like her little sis, Cara,
will have the same.

Would the group be interested in putting together a Foundation Stallion Bank for
Texas-Bred Foundation Arabian horse breeders.
The Bank would be to encourage breeding of Foundation Arabian horses, exchanging
bloodlines between breeding farms. An EAF, AF or AFB stallion owner would put a
breeding(s) into the Bank, then be eligible to select a breeding from the Bank.
Stallions would be Texas based - therefore the foals would all be Texas-Bred
Foundation Arabian horses.
The stallion owner sets the criteria for the breeding. The mare owner is
responsible for mare care, veterinary work, collection costs and shipping.
If this proposal meets with everyone's approval, I would like to then develop a
Texas-Bred Futurity for Foundation Arabian horses.
Please give comments and ideas. Thank you.

Since I've agreed to be on the advisory board (golly, I feel important!!), I
thought it might be good to tell you (or review with you) some of my history
and what my breeding program is about (sort of give you my "credentials").
I'm originally from Kansas (but always felt like I belonged in Texas--that I
just got misplaced somehow), and moved to Texas in 1980 - the year of THE
HEAT WAVE. Since that's 24 years ago--a lot of you probably won't remember
it. Sigh. Makes one feel old. I lived first in the Royse City area
east of Dallas, then the Wylie area which was very close to Dallas. The
last 17 years I have lived on my own place about 70 mi NE of Dallas - a
"whoop and a holler" from the Red River. It really can be considered The
Boondocks---but it's wonderfully private and rural.
I first got into Arabians in about 1978 when I got my foundation stallion,
Lawmoss, from Lloyd Laws. At the same time I purchased my foundation mare,
Flirtation's Pride, in Kansas. I fiddle-faddled around for several years,
not doing much in the way of breeding, until I realized, when he was about
20, that Lawmoss was an extremely rare horse, being one of only three 100%
(meaning bred at or used by) Kellogg stallions in the whole US!! And one
of those three was his full brother. So, although I'd always known he was
a good horse, when it hit me that his bloodlines were that rare, I set about
looking into Preservation Breeding, and have progressed from there. (Fast
forward to Present)
Lawmoss is gone, but currently, I have quite a few of his sons and daughters
and am breeding them to each other, then those daughters will go to an
"outcross" who is linebred the same, but not that closely related. I have
three EAF stallions: Lawzonn (Lawmoss x Gaizona), Promise Lawmosson (Lawmoss
x Antyfa), and Promise L Tasik (Lawmoss x Tambourina) standing. All three
are also 100% CMK. I have four EAF mares and fillies (owned or on lease):
Tambourina (Javelin x Tamasina); Bashirra (Iszi x Faranique); Law Raff Mia
(Lawmoss x VV Haff Raff); and, Promise Tazonna, a yearling (Lawzonn x
Tambourina). I also have one AF stallion and several AF and AFB mares.
My main focus is the Kellogg blood of *Nasik through Farana (primarily).
The Kellogg percentage of my breeding stock ranges from 50% on up to 100%
(or 96.875% depending on which expert you listen to). I have several
horses with 20+ lines to *Nasik, and 6, 7, 9, and 11 lines to Farana.
And, no, I am not breeding primarily for "paper pedigree". I like these
horses all the way around - conformation, temperament, their particular
type, action, etc---- I am just finding that increasing the "names in the
pedigree" is increasing the consistency of the resulting offspring. Yes, I
am raising "peas in a pod" - and love it! I'm also finding that the type I
love IS color-related, so I am often selecting for the bays. I'm not
saying the chestnuts are not good horses--they are---it's just that there's
something about a Kellogg bay that really appeals to me. As Bazy
Tankersley once said of herself (paraphrased here) - I'm breeding to please
my psyche, too. If bays do that---why not???
I'm a strong believer in pasture breeding, and running stallions in bachelor
herds, and have been doing this for 20+ years. My program has produced 60+
foals over the years, so I can't say I'm "greatly" experienced, but I do
have some experience. Most of my horses live outside 24/7, although there
are cedar trees available for shelter.
Sorry rambling on---guess that's about it in a nutshell.

I'm contemplating creating a Stallion Bank for Foundation stallion owners in
Texas. It would work this way: A stallion owner donates a breeding to an EAF
or AF stallion to the Bank, then may utilize a breeding from another donated
stallion.
This would "share" bloodlines within theTexas breeding group and make available
Foundation breedings to stallion owners for the daughters and granddaughters of
their own stallion(s).
Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas about this concept?

Early American Foundation (EAF) Arabian Horses are those which trace 100% in
ancestry to the horses listed in AHR Stud Book Volume 5 (registration numbers
1-2924).
If you horse is EAF and is a stallion standing at stud in Texas, let others know
about him. There is a folder in the Files section for Texas EAF Stallions at
Stud. Please feel welcome to put his photo and information there.

This event is a co-venture between TETRA's Regions 10, 11, and 12 and
the Hill Country State Natural Area Partners. We have plenty of room
for everyone, so come out for a day, or the whole weekend. You may
arrive Friday afternoon if you like.
Registration and Coggins checks will be handled at the camp site.
