Dachshunds are unique little dogs, thus the reason so many want to own and
eventually breed them. Unfortunately, many unwittingly breed without ever really
taking the time to research the overwhelming costs and time associated with this
undertaking.
The end result is usually unhealthy puppies being brought into an already
overcrowded canine world because proper steps to ensure the dog's health is not
being considered and implemented in the breeding process.

And who winds up paying the irresponsible breeders hundreds of dollars for these
potentially sickly pets? The uneducated and unsuspecting public! And this is
only the beginning of what the owner may possibly have to endure - having to
care for a constantly sick companion, frequent vet bills or worse - having to
put the poor dog to sleep.

For those of you who haven't signed up, please do so. It is a different format

the sign-up process is handled automatically. There is no waiting for a
moderator to approve new members. Once you respond to the verification email,
you're in and ready to post. Also, in each post, you have the ability to insert
images - from smiley faces to your/your dog's pictures. The interface is

As most of you probably know by now, The Dachshund Network moved its e-mail
group on Friday, March 14, 2008 to the new bulletin board,
http://www.thedachshundnetwork.com/index.php

For those of you who haven't signed up, please do so. It is a different format
of corresponding that, once you get used to, will become addictive. For example,
the sign-up process is handled automatically. There is no waiting for a
moderator to approve new members. Once you respond to the verification email,
you're in and ready to post. Also, in each post, you have the ability to insert
images - from smiley faces to your/your dog's pictures. The interface is
customizable - from the forum look itself to the wide variety of avatars (small
images that will be included next to your name whenever you post). There are
also subscription choices which allow you the ability to receive email notices
when participating in a thread.

Please write admin@... with any questions or concerns.

Thanks.

Before Purchasing Your Next Puppy, Please Do Your Homework

First, consider the fact that there are TOO many sweet, deserving, abandoned
dogs sitting out there in shelters that are in desperate need of good homes.
These pets often make the best companions once they have been matched with
compatible families. To explore a deserving rescue dog, please see our Rescue
Links at - http://www.thedachshundnetwork.com - for a rescue organization in
your area...

If a new puppy is a must, learning the difference between a responsible and
irresponsible breeder (pup mill) will better help you to find that quality
puppy. Click here for more info -
http://www.thedachshundnetwork.com/pupmills.htm

The best way to ensure that your new puppy has been bred from a responsible
breeder, avoid pets sold in pet stores or advertised in Internet or newspaper
classified ads. Instead, visit the Breeder Referral Service of The Dachshund
Club of America - http://dachshund-dca.org/referral%20folder/state_ref.html -
that lists only those members who adhere to their very strict breeding
standards.
Best wishes in your search!
